P122 steel, with a composition of Fe-10.57%Cr-1.79%W-0.96Cu-0.59Mn was arc-welded and oxidized between $600^{\circ}C$ and $800^{\circ}C$ in air for up to 6 months. The oxidation rates increased in the order of the base metal, weld metal, and heat-affected zone (HAZ), depending on the microstructure. The scale morphologies of the base metal, weld metal, and HAZ were similar because it was determined mainly by the alloy chemistry. The scale consisted primarily of a thin $Fe_2O_3$ layer at $600^{\circ}C$ and $700^{\circ}C$ and an outer $Fe_2O_3$ layer and an inner ($Fe_2O_3$, $FeCr_2O_4$)-mixed layer at $800^{\circ}C$. The microstructural changes resulting from heating between $600^{\circ}C$ and $800^{\circ}C$ coarsened the carbide precipitates, secondary Laves phases, and subgrain boundaries in the matrix, resulting in softening of the base metal, weld metal, and HAZ.
Cr-Al alloys are attracting attention as oxidation resistant coating materials for high temperature metallic materials due to their excellent high temperature stability. However, the mechanical properties and oxidation resistance of Cr-Al alloys can be further enhanced, and such attempts are made in this study. To improve the properties of Cr-Al alloys, Si is added up to 5 wt%. Casting specimens with different amounts of Si content are prepared by a vacuum arc remelting method and isothermally heated under steam conditions at $1,100^{\circ}C$ for 1 hour. The as-cast microstructure of low Si alloys is mainly composed of only a Cr phase, while $Al_8Cr_5$ and $Cr_3Si$ phases are also observed in the 5 % Si alloy. In the high Si alloy, only Cr and $Cr_3Si$ phases remain after the isothermal heating at $1,100^{\circ}C$. It is found that Si additions slightly decrease the oxidation resistance of the Cr-Al alloy. However, the microhardness of the Cr-Al alloy is observed to increase with an increasing Si content.
Ram pressure stripping (RPS) which is known to be one of the key effects that can remove the interstellar gas in the dense environment, can be described as a simple momentum transfer relation (Gunn & Gott 1972). However, it has been suggested that the actual gas stripping process is likely more complicated than Gunn & Gott's prescription due to the complexity of gas physics such as compression, cooling and heating. By comparing the gas truncation radius predicted by theory with the stripping radius measured from the HI observation of Virgo cluster galaxies, we attempt to verify how well the RPS process can be understood by momentum transfer alone. Among the sample of galaxies undergoing active RPS, we generally find a good agreement between what is predicted and what is observed within the measurement uncertainties. However, those galaxies with the signs of other environmental effects than RPS such as tidal interaction, and/or the ones likely at relatively early or later stages of RPS show some offsets between the theory and the observation. These results imply that Gunn & Gott's formula works reasonably well in a broad sense when the RPS is a dominant process and the surrounding environment at the current location of the sample can be well defined. Otherwise, the impact of the second mechanism, as well as the (current and past) environment of the sample, should be more carefully reviewed to assess the impact of RPS on galaxy evolution.

The development of domestic plant specific emission factors is very important to estimate reliable national emissions management. This study, for the reason, was carried out to obtain advances emission factor for Carbon Dioxide ($CO_2$) by source-specific emission tests from the iron and steel industry sector which is well known as one of the major sources of greenhouse gases ($CO_2$). Emission factors estimated in this study were compared with those of IPCC for evaluation and they were found to be of similar level in the case of $CO_2$. There was no good information available on $CO_2$ plant specific emission factors from the iron and steel industry in Korea so far. The major emission sources of $CO_2$ examined from the iron and steel manufacturing precesses were a hot blast stove, coke oven, sintering furnace, electric arc furnace, heating furnace, and so on. In this study, the concentration of $CO_2$ from the hot blast stove process was the highest among all processes. The $CO_2$ emission factors for a ton of Steel and Iron products (using B-C oil) were estimated to be 0.315 $CO_2$ tonne (by Tier 3 method) and 4.89 $CO_2$ tonne. In addition, emission factor of $CO_2$ for heating furnace process was the highest among all process. Emission factors estimated in this study were compared with those of IPCC for evaluation and they were found to be of similar level in the case of $CO_2$.
Purpose: Dental casting #Gr I (Co-25Cr-5Mo-3Sn-1Mn-1Si), #Gr II (Co-25Cr-5Mo-5Cu-1Mn -1Si) and #Gr III (Co-25Cr-5Mo-3Sn-5Cu-1Mn-1Si) master alloys of granule type were manufactured the same as manufacturing processes for dental casting Ni-Cr and Co-Cr-Mo based alloys of ingot type. These alloys were analyzed melting processes with heating time of high frequency induction centrifugal casting machine using infrared thermal image analyzer. Methods: These alloys were manufactured such as; alloy design, the first master alloy manufatured using vacuum arc casting machine, melting metal setting in crucible, melting in VIM, pouring in the mold of bar type, cutting the gate and runner bar and polishing. These alloys were put about 30g/charge in the ceramic crucible of high frequency induction centrifugal casting machine and heat, Infrared thermal image analyzer indicated alloys in the crucible were set and operated. Results: The melting temperatures of these alloys measuring infrared thermal image analyzer were decreased in comparison with remanium$^{(R)}$ GM 800+, vera PDI$^{TM}$, Biosil$^{(R)}$ f, WISIL$^{(R)}$ M type V, Ticonium 2000 alloys of ingot type and vera PDS$^{TM}$(Aabadent, USA), Regalloy alloys of shot type. Conclusion: Co-Cr-Mo based alloy in addition to Sn(#Gr I alloy) were decreased the melting temperature with heating time of high frequency induction centrifugal casting machine using infrared thermal image analyzer.
Metal fume fever has been known as an occupational disease is induced by intense inhalation of fresh metal fume with a particle size smaller than $0.5{\mu}m\;to\;1{\mu}m$. The fumes originate from heating metals beyond their boiling point, as happens, for example, in welding operations. Oxidation usually accompanies this process. In most cases, this syndrome is due to exposure to zinc oxide fumes; however, other metals like copper, magnesium, cadmium, manganese, and antimony are also reported to produce such reactions. Authors report a case of metal fume fever suspected to be associated with copper fume inhalation. The patient was a 42-year-old male and was a smoker. He conducted inert gas tungsten arc welding on copper-coated materials without safety precautions such as a protective mask and adequate ventilation. Immediately after work, he felt metallic taste in his mouth. A few hours after welding, he developed headache, chilling sensation, and chest discomfort. He also complained of myalgia, arthralgia, feverish sensation, thirst, and general weakness. Symptoms worsened after repeated copper welding on the next day and subsided gradually following two weeks. Laboratory examination showed a transient increase of neutrophil count, eosinophilia, elevated erythrocyte sedimentation rate, and positive C-reactive proteinemia. Blood and urine copper level was also increased compared to his wife. Before this episode, he experienced above complaints several times after welding with copper materials but welding of other metals did not produce any symptoms. It was suggested that copper fume would have induced metal fume fever in this case. Further investigations are needed to clarify their pathogenic mechanisms.
We report temperature and strain sensing characteristics of two kinds of in-line fiber interferometers. One interferometer consists of a section of Hollow Optical Fiber(HOF) spliced between two Photonic Bandgap Fibers(PBGF) and the other is built by splicing a section of HOF between two Large Mode Area-Photonic Crystal Fibers(LMA-PCF). To minimize the splice losses, we carefully optimized the heating time and arc current of the splicer so as not to collapse the air holes of the fiber. It is found that the first interferometer has a temperature sensitivity of 15.4 pm/$^{\circ}C$ and a strain sensitivity of 0.24 pm/${\mu}\varepsilon$. The other interferometer exhibits a temperature sensitivity of 17.4 pm/$^{\circ}C$ and a strain sensitivity of 0.2 pm/${\mu}\varepsilon$.

GaN films were deposited on sapphire [$Al_2O_3(0001)$] substrates at relatively low temperature by MOCVD using N-atom source based on a Dielectric Barrier Discharged method. Ammonia gas($NH_3$is commonly used as an N-source to grow GaN films in conventional MOCVD process, and heating to high temperature is required to provide sufficient dissociation of $NH_3$. We used a dielectric barrier discharge method instead of $NH_3$ to grow GaN film relatively low temperature. DBD is a type of discharge, which have at least one dielectric material as a barrier between electrode. DBD is a type of controlled microarc that can be operated at relatively high gas pressure. Crystallinity and surface morphology depend on growth temperature and buffer layer growth. With the DBD-MOCVD method, wurtzite GaN which is dominated by the (0001) reflection was successfully grown on sapphire substrate even at $700^{\circ}C$.
The characteristics of high heat input (342kJ/cm) EG (Electro Gas Arc) welded joint of EH36-TM steel has been investigated. The weld metal microstructure consisted of fine acicular ferrite (AF), a little volume of polygonal ferrite (PF) and grain boundary ferrite (GBF). Charpy impact test results of the weld metal and heat affected zone (HAZ) met the requirement of classification rule (Min. 34J at $-20^{\circ}C$). In order to evaluate the relationship between the impact toughness property and the grain size of HAZ, the austenite grain size of HAZ was measured. The prior austenite grain size in Fusion line (F.L+0.1 mm) was about $350{\mu}m$. The grain size in F.L+1.5 mm was measured to be less than $30{\mu}m$ and this region was identified as being included in FGHAZ(Fine Grain HAZ). It is seen that as the austenite grain size decreases, the size of GBF, FSP (Ferrite Side Plate) become smaller and the impact toughness of HAZ increases. Therefore, the CGHAZ was considered to be area up to 1.3mm away from the fusion line. Results of TEM replica analysis for a welded joint implied that very small size ($0.8\sim1.2{\mu}m$) oxygen inclusions played a role of forming fine acicular ferrite in the weld metal. A large amount of (Ti, Mn, Al)xOy oxygen inclusions dispersed, and oxides density was measured to be 4,600-5,300 (ea/mm2). During the welding thermal cycle, the area near a fusion line was reheated to temperature exceeding $1400^{\circ}C$. However, the nitrides and carbides were not completely dissolved near the fusion line because of rapid heating and cooling rate. Instead, they might grow during the cooling process. TiC precipitates of about 50 ~ 100nm size dispersed near the fusion line.
The hydrocarbon source rock potential of the Eocene units in the southern Oregon Coast Range was evaluated by using the Rock-Eval pyrolysis. Most Eocene units in southern Oregon Coast Range are thermally immature and contain lean, gas-prone Type III kerogen. However, some beds(coals) are sufficiently organic-rich to be sources of biogenic and thermogenic methane discovered in numerous seeps. The overall hydrocarbon source rock potential of the southern Oregon Coast Range is moderately low. Several requirements for commercial accumulations of hydrocarbon, however, probably exist locally within and adjacent areas. Three speculative petroleum systems are identified. The first includes the southern part of the Oregon Coast Range near the border with the Mesozoic Klamath Mountains and is related to a proposed subduction zone maturation mechanism along thrust faults. The second is centered in the northern part of the range and may be associated with basin-centered gas in an over-pressured zone. The third occurs near the eastern border of the range where maturation is related heating by sills and migration of hydrothermal fluids associated with mid-Tertiary volcanism in the Western cascade arc.
