A Series Arc Fault Detection Strategy for Single-Phase Boost PFC Rectifiers

  • This paper proposes a series arc fault detection algorithm which incorporates peak voltage and harmonic current detectors for single-phase boost power factor correction (PFC) rectifiers. The series arc fault model is also proposed to analyze the phenomenon of the arc fault and detection algorithm. For arc detection, the virtual dq transformation is utilized to detect the peak input voltage. In addition, multiple combinations of low- and high-pass filters are applied to extract the specific harmonic components which show the characteristics of the series arc fault conditions. The proposed model and the arc detection method are experimentally verified through a boost PFC rectifier prototype operating under the grid-tied condition with an artificial arc generator manufactured under the guidelines for the Underwriters Laboratories (UL) 1699 standard.

  • In order to analyze the heat transfer phenomena in the plasma flames, a mathematical model describing heat and fluid How in an electric arc has been developed and used to predict heat transfer from the arc to the steel bath in a DC Electric Arc Furnace. The arc model takes the separate contributions to the heat transfer from each involved mechanism into account, i.e. radiation, convection and energy transported by electrons. The finite volume method and a SIMPLE algorithm are used for solving the governing MHD equations, i.e., conservation equations of mass, momentum, and energy together with the equations describing a standard $k-\varepsilon$ model for turbulence. The model predicts heat transfer for different currents and arc lengths. Finally these calculation results can be used as a useful insight into plasma phenomena of the industrial-scale electric arc furnace. from these results, it can be concluded that higher arc current and longer arc length give high heat transfer.

  • Arc Fault Current is an electric discharge which is occurred in two opposite electrode. In this paper, arc current control algorithm is designed for the interruption of arc fault current which is occurred in the low voltage network. This arc is one of the main causes of electric fire. General arc current sensor has troubles for detecting arc currents, thus we would like to propose the arc current detection method without current sensor. In this paper, arc discharge currents within power lines are being detected through the arc current control algorithm.

  • Recently, welding technology of nonferrous metals which were difficult to implement by arc welder has become available through digitalization of arc welding machine. Among them, the welding quality improvement of aluminum welding is very noticeable. These results increase the arc stability by controlling arc current and voltage waveform precisely, and control wire feed speed by synchronizing with arc current which the feed rate of filler wire is controlled by a precise motor control of servomotor and not by a simple constant speed feeding. Not only through the hardware digitalization of arc welding machine but also through advance of software of arc welding, it became possible to implement a certain level of welding quality by a simple operation. These led to CMT welding process implementation which requires low heat input than current arc welding and highly increased the applicability of the aluminum welding.

  • Electric arc furnace has consumed plenty of power. Hence electric arc furnace can be expected to use for demand side management. When electric arc furnace use for demand side management, electric arc furnace frequently occur a starting and a stop. Electric arc furnace irregularity change consumption of power. Due to character of time-varing and non-linear, electirc arc furnace has a problem with voltage quality(flicker, harmonics). Producted harmonic in electric art furnace is different any harmonic source because of electric arc furnace peculiar operating. Accordingly, analysis for generated harmonic in electric arc furnace operating is demanded. This paper analyze effect of harmonic by arc furnace operating.

  • This paper proposes new arc algorithm to detect series quasi-arc. This algorithm analyzes odd and even harmonics until 9th using discrete fourier transform (DFT) and detect series arc comparing RMS values of load current. Resistors, lights, dimmer and vacuum cleaner which can be distinguished linearity load and quasi arc load are adopted to perform experiments. This algorithm is confirmed to emulate arc detecting with measuring current data.

  • The main cause of solar facility fires is arc, and in the last 3 years ('16 to '18), about 80% of domestic solar facility fires have been caused by arcs. The capacity of solar power facilities installed around the world continues to increase, and fires caused by arcs are also expected to increase as the solar power generation facilities that were initially installed become obsolete, In this paper, an arc generation test was conducted based on the UL1699B test standard. As a result of the test, the arc generation satisfied the minimum arc current according to the test conditions, and DC arc characteristics were analyzed through data such as arc voltage and arc current according to variables such as speed of moving electrodes and electrode spacing.

  • This paper describes a newly developed arc-sensing algorithm of seam-tracking for FCA W (flux-cored arc welding) horizontal fillet welding. In this algorithm, arc current and the Weighted-Are-Current (WAC) are used to adjust the position of a weld torch in directions of bead throat and weaving, respectively. The WAC, which is newly devised in this study, means that arc current in the vicinity of weaving end is more emphasized than that in the center of weaving. The reason of this is because there usually exists much noise in the center of weaving due to abrupt change of arc length in case some empty gaps exist in a fillet joint Variance analysis was performed in order to check the effect of weld parameters on arc current and the WAC. As a result, the relationships between tip-to-workpiece distance and arc current, and between weaving offset and the WAC were established.To check "the validity of the algorithm, seam-tracking experiments were performed ;mder various welding condition. The result of experiments showed a satisfactory tracking performance in the presence of empty gaps in a horizontal fillet joint.et joint.

정위방사선치료 시 적분 생물학적 유효선량 및 방사선조사용적을 이용한 Total Arc Degree의 최적화 (Optimization of Total Arc Degree for Stereotactic Radiotherapy by Using Integral Biologically Effective Dose and Irradiated Volume)

  • 목적 : 정위방사선치료 시 정상 뇌 조직을 고선량의 방사선으로부터 최대한 보호하며 치료의 효율성을 높이기 위하여 치료 인자 중 콜리메이터의 크기와 arc 간 간격에 따른 이상적인 total arc degree (TAD) 값을 제시하고자 한다. 대상 및 방법 : XKnife-3 planning system을 사용하여 환자의 송과체 부위에 방사선 빔의 회전중심점을 위치시킨 후 12, 20, 30, 40, 50 그리고 60 mm 직경의 정위방사선치료용 원형 콜리메이터를 이용하여 각각의 콜리메이터 직경별로 TAD를 100, 200, 300, 400, 500, 600도, 그리고 arc 간 간격을 30도(6-arc system)와 45도(4-arc system)로 설정하여 방사선치료계획을 수립하였다. 치료계획을 통해 얻은 누적선량체적히스토그람을 이용하여 회전중심점 처방선량의 $50\%$ 이상 조사되는 정상 뇌의 용적$(V_{50})$ 및 적분 생물학적 유효선량(integral biologically effective dose)을 이용하여 각각의 TAD에 따른 방사선치료계획을 비교하였다. 결과 : TAD에 따른 $V_{50}$의 변화는 arc 간 각도가 30도인 경우에는 콜리메이터 직경과 관계없이 TAD가 증가할수록 감소하는 양상을 보였으나, 45도의 arc 간 각도에서는 400도의 TAD까지는 감소하다가 400도 이상의 TAD에서 $V_{50}$은 증가하거나 변화가 없었다. 적분 생물학적 유효선량 값의 변화는 arc 간 간격이 30도인 경우에는 콜리메이터의 직경에 관계없이 TAD가 증가함에 따라 미소하게 감소하는 양상을 보였다. arc 간 각도가 45도인 경우에는 콜리메이터 직경이 40 mm 이하에서는 TAD가 증가함에 따라 적분 생물학적 유효선량은 계속 감소하였으나, 50 mm와 60 mm 직경의 콜리메이터에서는 TAD가 400도까지는 감소하다가 500도 이상의 TAD에서는 증가하였다. 결론 : 정위방사선치료 시 400도 정도의 TAD를 사용하는 것은 300도 이하 혹은 500도 이상의 TAD를 사용하는 것 보다 치료 효과를 높이면서 치료계획과 치료 시 장비 및 인적 자원의 효율적인 운용을 기대할 수 있을 것으로 판단된다.
