Realization of Fairy Tale - Robot Aquarium Display System with Visitor Interaction (관람객과 상호 교감하는 전래동화-로봇의 수중무대 연출시스템 구현)

  • This paper had implemented the underwater stage through interaction with fish robots and visitors in the background of traditional fairy tales using 3D floating hologram in an aquarium. The recognition of the object position of the spectator and the underwater robot were performed using the color recognition algorithm. Also, the position tracking algorithm was proposed to follow the object of the visitor and the original fairy tale. This experimental system consists of fish robot, camera, KIOSK for underwater robot control and beam project for underwater imaging. This experiment was carried out by the National Busan Science Museum, and it had satisfied the performance of the underwater stage.

  • We have launched an investigation for Embryonic Development, Larvae and Juvenile Morphology, of Buenos aires tetra in order to build basic data of Characidae and fish seeding production. We brought 50 couples of Characidae from Bizidduck aquarium in Yeosu-si, Jeollanamdo, from Korea on March of 2015. We put them in the tetragonal glass aquarium ($50{\times}50{\times}30cm$). Breeding water temperature was $27.5{\sim}28.5^{\circ}C$ (mean $28.0{\pm}0.05^{\circ}C$) and being maintained. The shape of fertilized egg was round shape, and it was adhesive demersal egg. The egg size was 0.63~0.91 mm (mean $0.74{\pm}0.07mm$, n=20). After getting fertilized egg, the developmental stage was gastrula stage, and embryo covered almost two-thirds of Yolk. Incubation was happened after 16 hours 13 minutes from gastrula stage, and the tail of juvenile came out first with tearing egg capsule. Immediately after the incubation, prelarvae had 3.78~3.88 mm length (mean $3.84{\pm}0.04mm$, n=5), and it had no mouth and anus yet. 34 days after hatching from the incubation, juvenile had 8.63~13.1 mm (mean $10.9{\pm}1.66mm$), and it had similar silver-colored body shape with its mother.

Changes of Physicochemical properties During Storage at an Aquarium Tank of Wild and Cultured Gray mullet (Mugil cephalus) and Red seabream (Pagrus major) (횟집 수조 보관 중에 자연산, 양식산 참돔 및 숭어의 물리·화학적 성분변화)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the nutrition composition and physiological changes, and to evaluate the food quality of live fish in cultured and wild fishes which have been kept in an aquarium tank. The moisture and lipid content of wild and cultured fishes when kept in an aquarium tank for seven-days storage was found to be lower than those of the initial stage storage(zero day). The breaking strength was also rapidly decreased in all of live fishes tested in this study as the periods of storage extended. The protein content did not differ significantly. However, the content of cortisol, which is a indicator indicating a stress reaction in tissues, was apt to increasing as the periods of storage extended. The cortisol content of wild fishes were higher than those of cultured fishes. On the other hand, the activity of activities of alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and aspartate aminotransferase (AST), which is also a indicator indicating a stress reaction, were not changed in the serum of wild and cultured fish, suggesting the ALT and AST activity dose not directly related with a healthy loss originated from stress. The death ratio of wild fishes were higher than cultured ones due to limited activity and stress during the storage in a aquarium tank.

  • Pettancylus nipponicus (freshwater limpet) collected from the Lake Choon Cheon were cultrued in aquarium and studied in the respects of an egg deposition and the developmental characters of cleavage. The species were collected only in the Lake Uiam and Choon Cheon and easily sampled on the debris like vinyls and cans. Those smooth surfaces were suitalble substrata for attaching. P. nipponicus, about 4 mm in adult, deposited an egg in one calcareous egg-capsule on the aquarium walls, while many eggs are surrounded in a jelly-like egg-envelope in the most gastropods. And another special features was that an egg-capsule was consisted of two valves and the suture was opended as hatching. A diameter of its egg was $55{{\mu}m}$ and the length of an egg capsule was $620{{\mu}m}$ and $510{{\mu}m}$ in long and short diameter, respectively. It took about 8 hours from beginning cleavage to 16-cell stage and about one year to become an adult.

Development of Autonomous Bio-Mimetic Ornamental Aquarium Fish Robotic (생체 모방형의 아쿠아리움 관상어 로봇 개발)

  • In this paper, the designed fish robots DOMI ver1.0 is researched and development for aquarium underwater robot. The presented fish robot consists of the head, 1'st stage body, 2nd stage body and tail, which is connected two point driving joints. The model of the robot fish is analysis to maximize the momentum of the robot fish and the body of the robot is designed through the analysis of the biological fish swimming. Also, Lighthill was applied to the kinematics analysis of robot fish swimming algorithms, we are applied to the approximate method of the streamer model that utilizes techniques mimic the biological fish. The swimming robot has two operating mode such as manual and autonomous operation modes. In manual mode the fish robot is operated to using the RF transceiver, and in autonomous mode the robot is controlled by microprocessor board that is consist PSD sensor for the object recognition and avoidance. In order to the submerged and emerged, the robot has the bladder device in a head portion. The robot gravity center weight is transferred to a one-axis sliding and it is possible to the submerged and emerged of DOMI robot by the breath unit. It was verified by the performance test of this design robot DOMI ver1.0. It was confirmed that excellent performance, such as driving force, durability and water resistance through the underwater field test.

The Change of Total Weight and Food Consumption of Abalone, Haliotis discus hannai under a Vibration and Noise (소음.진동에 따른 참전복(Haliotis discus hannai)의 전중량 및 먹이섭식량 변화)

  • This paper describes the amount of food consumption and the change of total weight of abalone under a vibration with noise that can be occurred due to piling work. This experiment was conducted in the aquarium in Yosu National University. In normal situation the juvenile stage shell's(total length is 1~1.5cm) amount of food consumption was 0.81g, the middle stage shell(total length is 3~3.5cm) was 13.61g, and the adult stage shell (Total length is 7~7.5cm) was 43.l9g per 5 organisms in 24 hours, while the experimental group was observed low numerical value compared normal groups. The abalones' food consumption and total weight in both groups, the intermittent and continuance impact with noise and vibration, was reduced during this experiment. The abalones' food consumption and total weight in the experimental groups without vibration were recorded slightly high numerical value than the experimental groups with noise and vibration. Based on this experimental data we could conjecture the noise and vibration are harmful factors to bring up a physiological stress to abalones. Especially, the vibration impact by piling works could produce a considerably unfavorable effect to the abalones than noise impact.

Changes of Nucleotides in the Raw Fishes during the Aquarium Storage (수족관 저장기간에 따른 횟감생선의 핵산관련성분 변화)

  • Changes in nucleotide concentrations of aquarium-stored flounder, sea bass, and sea bream were studied. ATP, ADP, and AMP slowly decreased, whereas IMP, HxR and Hx slightly increased with increasing storage ported. ATP was converted into IMP at initial storage stage. Changes in concentrations of nucleotides differed depending on fish type and season. Freshness indicators, $K,\;K_{p}\;G,\;P,\;H,\;and\;F_{r}$ values during 14 days storage showed no significant differences. Changes in nucleotide concentrations during 14 days storage had no significant effect on taste of raw fishes.

  • In order to investigate territorial behaviour, Pungitius sinensis kaibarae were collected from Sacheon-river, Kangwon-do, Korea. They are reared in aquarium with designed experimental region from March to May 1996. In this study, territorial behaviour was divided into 1) pre-territorial movements of a shoal under varying water-weeds position 2) individual ranking patterns in connection with total length of fish 3) the change in size of territorial maps during the parental stage. The movements of a shoal tend to prefer regions with water-weeds and the lower half of the aquarium. Competition for territory was fierce, and fish that are longer in total length dominate smaller one in occupying territory. Both males and females developed territorial behaviour as they grew. However, male's territory was enlarged according to the hatching and dispersion of fry. At this time, aggressive tendencies reached their peak.

Morphological Development and Reproductive Behavior of Hedgehog Seahorse Hippocampus spinosissimus (Teleostei: Syngnathidae) (Hedgehog Seahorse (Hippocampus spinosissimus)의 산출습성 및 형태발달)

  • This study described the reproductive behavior and the morphological development of the larvae and juvenile of the hedgehog seahorse (Hippocampus spinosissimus). Larvae released from male seahorse were reared for 30 days in the laboratory. At the birth, the small flap-like mouth and anus of the yolk-sac larvae were open, and the yolk was completely absorbed within 1 day. The size of newborn larvae ranged 7.01-13.19mm (mean $9.26\pm1.9mm$, n=9) in TL (total length). The larvae had 15-16 pectoral fin rays and 19 dorsal fin rays, but 4 anal fin rays were not completely developed. The larval size ranged 13.38-14.38 mm (mean $13.96\pm0.3mm$, n=6) in TL at 1 day after release, and they had 17 pectoral fin rays, 20 dorsal fin rays and 4 anal fin rays when the larvae reached the juvenile stage. Juvenile size ranged 14.98-16.42mm (mean $15.84\pm0.5mm$, n=5) in TL at 3 days after release, and 1, 4, 6, 8 trunk spines extended quickly. Terminal part of the coronet became a four-forked wedge shape concurrently. Juvenile became 23.25mm (n=l) in TL after 15 days and all 11 trunk rings was connected completely. After 20 days, the juveniles were 24.66-28.65mm (mean $27.26\pm1.6mm$, n=5) in TL, and many melanophores appeared in integument. In the eye lenses, 5-6 lusters were formed. After 30 days, the juveniles were 26.78-28.26 mm (mean $27.36\pm0mm$, n=4)in TL and 8-9 lusters appeared on the eye lenses. Coronet terminal part developed to a five-forked crown-shape completely.

Egg Development and Morphology of Larvae of South Sea Devil Stinger Inimicus japonicus (Cuvier et Valenciennes) Reared in the Aquarium (수조(水槽)에서 사육(飼育)한 남해산(南海産) 쑤기미, Inimicus japonicus의 난발생(卵發生)과 부화자어(孵化仔魚)의 형태(形態))

  • In August, 1988, matured adults of devil stinger were collected from Jinhae Bay and Jaran Bay, Kyongsangnam-do, Korea and kept in the aquarium (1 ton) for spawning. The egg development was observed with the eggs laid in the aquarium of adult fish. The diameters of eggs ranged from 1.2 to 1.3 mm (n=6), and no oil globules were found in the eggs. The hatching took place from 26 to 29 hours after eight cells stage at the water temperature of $24.9-26.5^{\circ}C$. The newly hatched larvae were 2.47~3.10 mm in total length with xanthophore on the body and yolk sac. Myomere number was 13+16-17=29-30. Two days after hatching, larvae were 3.61-4.16 mm in total length, and 3 to 4 large spots of melanophore appeared on the large pectoral fin. Three days after hatching, larvae were 3.97-4.29 mm in total length, and the larvae absorved the yolk material completely to become post larvae with 4-5 rays of the pectoral fin. Six days after hatching, larvae attained 4.07-5.46 mm in total length, and 11 rays and 8-9 spots of melanophore were developed on the pectoral fin.
