  • It is worth it to properly present the behaviors of cyberspace and game characters. It is not so easy to manually supply the actions for all objects one by one, so we need to use crowd animation techniques in order to display automatically, realistically, and effectively. In this paper, we construct a ubiquitous cyber aquarium based on sensors, using the crowd behavior library, which is applied to programming crowd behavior in cyberspace and game applications. We use a sensor board to become aware of a person approaching the cyber aquarium, and according to the perceived distance, the objects in the cyber aquarium automatically react and behave accordingly.

  • This study was performed to analyze the fluid flow characteristics and the temperature distribution of the aquarium for fish breeding. In this study, the finite volume method and turbulence k-$\varepsilon$ model with the SIMPLE computational algorithm are used to study the water flow in the aquarium. The calculation parameters are the circulating flow rate and the basin depth, and the experiments were carried out for the water flow visualization This numerical analysis gives reasonable velocity distributions in good agreement with the experimental data. As the results of the three dimmentional simulations, the sectional mean velocity increased as the sectional mean temperature increases for constant basin depth, and the mean velocity increased more rapidly for small basin depth than that of large basin depth, The mean velocity and temperature can be expressed as the function of the circulating flow rates and the basin depth.

  • This paper realizes control of the motion of a swimming robot fish in order to implement an underwater robot fish aquarium. And it implements positional control of a two-axis trajectory path of the robot fish in the aquarium. The performance of the robot was verified though certified field tests. It provided excellent performance in driving force, durability, and water resistance in experimental results. It can control robot motion, that is, it recognizes an object by using an optical flow object-detecting algorithm, which uses a video camera rather than image-detecting sensors inside the robot fish. It is possible to find the robot's position and control the motion of the robot fish using a radio frequency (RF) modem controlled via personal computer. This paper proposes realization of robot fish motion-tracking control using the optical flow object-detecting algorithm. It was verified via performance tests of lead-lag action control of robot fish in the aquarium.

  • In a cyber aquarium, the behavior of fish objects is the most important factor in respect of visual effects. In this paper, we analyze the principal habits of fish objects such as the vitality, the range of movement, the maximum depth of water they can live, and the cycle of eating. Then, we suggest a method for simulating the stable marine ecosystem with controlling the behaviors, the interaction with other species, the average span of life, and all that sort of thing based on the result of analysis. Because we can freely modify the behavior of fish object by altering the values of attributes, it can be utilized in the dynamic cyber aquarium, the 3D aquarium screen saver, and the cyber fish game, and so on.

  • Factors influencing elongation of the ovipositor in the bitterling Rhodeus uyekii were examined under several conditions. The ovipositors of the females were periodically elongated under the presence of mussels or males, and in some cases without either. When females were reared without mussels and males, the ovipositor did not elongate in one fish in a large aquarium, but it did become elongated in another fish in a small aquarium and in many fishes in a large aquarium. Duration of the elongated state of the ovipositor was 1~3 days (mean 1.2~2.5 days) and the periodicity of elongation was 4~15 days (mean 6.4~11.9 days). Length of the elongated ovipositor was 68~100% (mean 78.5~98.8%). Length of ovipositor in the interpeak period was 20~51% (mean 27.3~33.1%); in the post-elongation period it did not elongated further 3~30% (mean 11.1~19.9%). The effect of aquarium size and number of individuals in the aquarium on the elongation of the ovipositor, and inter-specific or inter-generic differences based on previous reports are discussed.

  • This research has been performed by our own investigation, also cooperated with Health and Sanification Division and each of district offices in Busan metropolitan city. After choosing, we collected water samples five times for microbiological examination. As a result of investigating in 160 water samples from urban areas, we could detect 88 cases of Vibrio spp. Furthermore, there were four cases exceeding the acceptable limit of aquarium water (100,00/mL) and another four cases exceeding the limit of Coliform group (1,000 below/100 mL). As a result of investigating that we performed for 271 cases of water samples from coastal areas from April to November, we could detect 130 cases of vibrio species and 10 cases of Coliform group. After performing 17 kinds of antibiotic susceptibility test for 41 cases of isolated Vibrio parahaemolyticus, 27 cases showed tolerance to Amplicllin (AM), all of 31 cases showed intermediate resistance only to Cefazolin (CF) but had sensitivity to the rest of them. As a result of performing antibiotic susceptibility test, serum test and PFGE gene analysis on each 10 pair of Vibrio parahaemolyticus detected concurrently from intake-pipe water and, aquarium water, we couldn't get data showing that they are clearly same species in three kinds of test. In addition, UV sterilization, Ozonization and so on. Based on our research, intake pipe didn't have a problem with microbiological contamination so we are sure that the germ came from supplied fish had caused that kind of contamination. For effective management, UV sterilization or Ozonization which can be handled consistently should be adopted in aquarium.

  • In a virtual aquarium, the behavior of fish objects is the most important factor in respect of visual effects. In addition to the individual behavior of fish object, the interactions between objects due to their attributes, can improve the dynamics and reality of the virtual world. • The purpose of this study is to analyze the nutrition composition and physiological changes, and to evaluate the food quality of live fish in cultured and wild fishes which have been kept in an aquarium tank. The moisture and lipid content of wild and cultured fishes when kept in an aquarium tank for seven-days storage was found to be lower than those of the initial stage storage(zero day). The breaking strength was also rapidly decreased in all of live fishes tested in this study as the periods of storage extended. The protein content did not differ significantly. However, the content of cortisol, which is a indicator indicating a stress reaction in tissues, was apt to increasing as the periods of storage extended. The cortisol content of wild fishes were higher than those of cultured fishes. On the other hand, the activity of activities of alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and aspartate aminotransferase (AST), which is also a indicator indicating a stress reaction, were not changed in the serum of wild and cultured fish, suggesting the ALT and AST activity dose not directly related with a healthy loss originated from stress. The death ratio of wild fishes were higher than cultured ones due to limited activity and stress during the storage in a aquarium tank.
