This paper proposes precision evaluation method for the positioning error of three-DOF translational parallel mechanism. The proposed method uses conventional CMM as metrology equipment to measure the position of end-effector. In order to obtain accurate measurement data from CMM, the transform relationship between the coordinate system of the parallel mechanism and the CMM coordinate system must be identified. For this purpose, a new coordinate referencing (or coordinate system identification) technique is presented. By using this technique accurate coordinate transformation relationships are efficiently established. According to these coordinate transformation relationships, an equation to calculate error components at any arbitrary position of the end-effector is derived. In addition, mathematical fitting models to represent the position error components in the two-dimensional workspace of the parallel mechanism are also constructed based on response surface methodology. The proposed error evaluation method proves its effectiveness through the experimental results and its application to real three-DOF parallel mechanism.
Acoustical holography is one of the powerful methods in sound radiation problems. Just measuring hologram data on a plane, one can calculate whole space physical quantities such as pressure, particle velocity, and sound intensity. However, the use of finite and discrete operations introduce significant errors inevitably. This paper reviews error reduction schemes, and introduces error analysis criteria derived from modal analysis. Finally the effect of window functions is investigated by these criteria.
A new interpolation function, named modified raised-cosine interpolation, is proposed. This function is derived from the linear combination of weighted triangular and raised-cosine functions to reduce the effect of side lobes which incur the interpolation error. Interpolation error reduces significantly for higher-order convolutional interpolation functions of linear operators, but at the expense of resolution error due to the attenuation of main lobe. However, the proposed interpolation function enables us to reduce the side lobes as well as to preserve the main lobe. To prove practicality, this function is applied in image reconstruction and enlargement.
The unequal bit-error-probability of rate r=b/n binary convolutional code is analyzed. The error protection affored each digit of the b-tuple information word can be different from that afforded other digit. The property of the unequal protection can be applied to transmitting sampled data in PCM system.
This paper considers the cointegrating vector estimator in the error correction model with stationary covariates, which combines the stationary vector autoregressive model and the nonstationary error correction model. The cointegrating vector estimator is shown to follow the locally asymptotically mixed normal distribution. The variance of the estimator depends on the covariate effect of stationary regressors, and the asymptotic efficiency improves as the magnitude of the covariate effect increases. An economic application of the money demand equation is provided.
In this article, we considered a class of nonlinear variational hemivariational inequality problems and investigated a gap function and regularized gap function for the problems. We discussed the global error bounds for such inequalities in terms of gap function and regularized gap functions by utilizing the Clarke generalized gradient, relaxed monotonicity, and relaxed Lipschitz continuous mappings. Finally, as applications, we addressed an application to non-stationary non-smooth semi-permeability problems.
Thermal displacement is an important issue in machine tool systems. During the last several decades, thermal error compensation technology has significantly reduced thermal distortion error; this success has been attributed to the development of a precise, robust thermal error model. A major advantage of using the thermal error model is instant compensation for the control variables during the modeling process. However, successful application of thermal error modeling requires correct determination of the temperature sensor placement. In this paper, a procedure for predicting thermal-mode-based thermal error is introduced. Based on this thermal analysis, temperature sensors were positioned for multiple heat-source models. The performance of the sensors based on thermal-mode error analysis, was compared with conventional methods through simulation and experiments, for the case of a slide table in a transient state. Our results show that for predicting thermal error the proposed thermal model is more accurate than the conventional model.
Heliostat, as a mirror system tracking the sun's movement, is the most important subsystem determining the efficiency of solar thermal power plant. Thus the accurate sun tracking performance under the various hazardous operating condition, is required. This study presents a methodology of development of the solar ray tracing technique and the application of it in the analysis of sun tracking error due to the heliostat geometrical errors. The geometrical errors considered here are the azimuth axis tilting error and the elevation axis tilting error. We first analyze the geometry of solar ray reflected from the heliostat. Then the point on the receiver, where the solar ray reflected from the heliostat is landed, is computed and compared with the original intended point, which represents the sun tracking error. The result obtained shows that the effect of geometrical error on the sun tracking performance is varying with time(season) and the heliostat location. It also shows that the heliostat located near the solar tower has larger sun tracking error than that of the heliostat located farther.
