An Analysis of Trade Areas for Apparel Stores in Seoul - Based on Myeong-dong, Kangnam Station and Myeongil-dong -

  • The purpose of this study is to provide information how to locate a apparel store based on target age, merchandise's type and price. Three trade areas in Seoul are chosen: Myeong-dong which is the biggest trade area in Korea; Kangnam station one of representative Kangnam trade areas; and Myeongil-Dong a neighborhood trade area. This study is mainly performed by analysing the locations of the stores in the given areas. The result shows that the main apparel stores in Myeong-dong are casual wear stores for young people with the range of mid-high price. The stores in Kangnam station trade area also sell the casual wear for young people but they are mostly mid-low priced. In the trade area of Myeongil-dong, however, there are various kinds of mid-priced apparel stores for residents of all ages. Apparel stores for formal wear, casual wear, and formal-casual wear tend to be located side by side. But other kinds do not. These results show that affinity is found in some types of apparel stores by the analysis of the next-door apparel stores.

의류 제품의 소비자 상권 선택 기준 -수도권 신도시(분당, 일산) 소비자들을 중심으로- (Trade Area Selection Criteria for Apparel Products -The cases of Bundang and Ilsan-)

  • The purpose of this study was; to investigate consumers'selection criteria for their trade area when purchasing apparel products; to study whether there is a difference on the importance of the selection criteria; to examine consumers'willingness to visit specific trade area according to the types of apparel products. Four hundred sixty-nine female consumers who lived in the two new towns, Bundang and Ilsan participated in the study by completing questionnaires. Data were analyzed using factor analyses, t-tests, paired t-teats and chi-square analyses. The results indicated that consumer selected trade area based on shop variety within trade areas and range of products, customer services, environment of trade area, price level, entertaining features of the trade area, and the convenience of location and shopping time. In addition, the importance of these criteria varied according to the types of apparel products(i.e. formal wears and casual wears). The types of apparel products had influence on consumers'willingness to visit specific trade area. Consumers preferred the trade areas in the new towns for purchasing formal wears, whereas they frequented the trade areas in Seoul for purchasing casual wears.

한국 의류산업의 대미(對美) 수출 현황과 소싱 특성 (Export to the USA and Sourcing of Korean Apparel Industry)

  • In recent years, Korea's apparel exports to the USA have faced a great threat, as the trade environment around the world has changed continually. The purpose of this study is to analyze the competitive position of Korean apparel exports to the USA, and to enhance export competitiveness by applying to offshore sourcing. The trade data of the Office of Textiles and Apparel(OTEXA) in the U.S. Department of Commerce were selected for inquiry about export competitiveness of apparel products made in Korea. In addition, we targeted members of the Korea Apparel Industry Association among the 500 exporters of clothing items in "The Import and Export Textile Product 2003." A total 70 sheets were analyzed. The results of this study were as follows: 1) Korean apparel exports to USA have decreased by 20-35 percent per year since 2005 under the Free Trade Area, showing that Korean apparel industries have not adapted to the new trade environment. Although Korean apparel exports to USA have indicated a trade surplus from now on, Korean apparel industries should find new ways to overcome this situation, diminishing exports and increasing imports. 2) Korean apparel companies selected more offshore sourcing than domestic sourcing. Also, as Korean apparel companies manufactured apparel products offshore, foreign subcontracting outranked manufacturing in their own foreign plants. When they chose foreign countries to source, they turned mainly to China and Vietnam. Also, they considered the target country's manufacturing price, labor stability, apparel products, quality, lead time, and so on. In order to increase apparel exports, Korean apparel industries should focus more on developing competitively new apparel products, improving the ability of sourcing management, and establishing on-the-spot agencies.

Consumer Spatial Behavior for Apparel Products based on Trade Area Selection Criteria

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between consumer spatial behavior and consumer characteristics based on trade area selection criteria 469 female consumers who lived in the two new towns near Seoul, Bundang and Ilsan, participated in the study by completing questionnaires. Data were analyzed by using cluster analysis, ANOVA, Duncan's multiple range test, chi-square analysis, etc. The findings of the empirical research were as follows: 1. Five groups were identified by cluster analysis based on trade area selection criteria of clothing price-oriented group, time convenience-oriented group, shopping convenience-oriented group, variety/entertainment-oriented group, and passive shopping group. 2. Each group differed in spatial behavior such as clothing shopping area, the visiting frequency, and spatial movement type. 3. Each group showed differences in fashion involvement and demographic characteristics(age, marital status, education, occupation and social status).

글로벌 소싱 기지로서의 한국 섬유.의류산업의 현황 (South Korea as a Global Sourcing Site for Textile and Apparel Produce)

  • Korea is facing great threat from other countries as a major global sourcing site for textile and apparel products. The threat has been augmented by changes in external environment such as advents of Trading Blocs and Free Trade Area(FTA) as well as internal environment such as hikes in labor cost and lack of flexibility in accommodating international buyers' needs. This study analyzed international buyers' sourcing activities in Korea for the purpose of developing strategies to enhance competitiveness of the Korean textile and apparel industries in the global market. The data used in this study were gathered by surveying 52 non-Korean textile and apparel product buyers with cooperation of the Korea Federation of Textile Industries (KOFOTI). The data were analyzed by mean, frequency, Pearson correlation coefficient, and x$^2$ analysis. The results indicated that Korea is still attractive to many international buyers especially to those who have been engaged in global sourcing for longer periods of time with bigger purchasing budgets. However, in order to expand and solidify their customer bases, Korean companies should focus more on developing competitively priced value added products a step ahead of their foreign competitors, diversifying their marketing channels including internet.

首都圈地域 小賣業 經營의 空間的 變容 (Spatial Changes in the Business Organization of Retailing in the Seoul Metropolitan Area)

  • 대도시권내 소매업의 지역구조 변화를 이해하기 위하여 우리나라에서 소매업의 규모가 가장 큰 수도권지역 소매업 경영의 지역적 변화형태를 고찰한 결과 다음과 같은 점이 밝혀졌다. 1979~1991년 사이에 연간판매액에 의한 소매업의 업종구성 변화는 <종합 소매업>과 <개인 운수장비 소매업 및 주유소 운영업>의 구성비가 매우 높아졌다. 그리고 소매업의 경영상의 변화는 개인 경영조직이 탁월해지고, 종사자의 常傭化가 많이 나타났다. 주성분 분석에 의한 수도권지역 소매업의 주된 경영성분은 1. 소매업의 대규모화와, 2. <섬유, 의복, 신발 및 의복 악세사리 소매업>, <가구, 철물 및 가정용품 소매업(가전제품 포함)>, <장신구 및 시계 소매업>의 법인 조직화와 상용 조사자의 고용화이다. 소매업 경영의 유형변화를 보면, 1979년에는 섬유, 의복, 신박 및 의복 악세사리 소매업, 가구, 철물 및 가정용품 소매업(가전제품 포함), 장신구 및 시계 소매업의 법인 조직화와 상용 종사자의 고용화, 달리 분류되지 않은 일반 소매업의 대규모 소매업의 법인 조직화가 다소 이루어졌으나, 1991년에는 소매업의 대규모화가 이루어진 것이다. 이러한 경영변화를 나타내는 지구는 서울시와 그 위성도시 및 경기도의 남동부지역이다. 또 1979년에 섬유, 의복, 신발 및 의복 악세사리 소매업, 장신구 및 시계 소매업, 달리 분류되지 않은 일반 소매업의 대규모 소매업의 법인 조직화가 다소 이루어진 것에서, 1991년에는 개인 운수장비 소매업 및 주유소 운영업의 상용 종사자의 고용화가 이루어졌다. 이러한 변화를 나타내는 지구는 경기도의 동부와 북부지역이다. 따라서 우리나라 수도권지역 소매업 경영의 변화형태는 1979년에 일부 소매업이 법인 조직화와 상용 종사자의 고용화가, 1991년에는 소매업의 대규모화와 개인 운수장비 소매업과 주유소 운영업의 종사자 고용화가 나타난 점이다.

  • Korea's clothing industry which has been country's leading export industry and basic strategical industry is now faced with many difficulties both domestically and internationally. Domestically it is faced with continuing shortage of manpower in both production line and management high labour cost causing increase in price putting more weight on behavior of consumers resulting in change of industrial environment and continuing structural problems of industry itself. Internationally it is faced with strengthening of import regulations and protectionism of developed countries and rapid emergence of underdeveloped countries as leading exporting nations. In reality export plays the most essential role in our economy and is especially sensitive to the external environmental factors. Already economic bloc phonomenon can be seen everywhere and is continuing to accelerate in place such as E. U in Europ, North & South America as NAFTA, and South East Asian contries which recent tendency of economic unity effort is present. These countries of such economic blocs are imposing heavy custom duties reinforcing provision of country origin and acting out strict inspection regulations in order to protect the interest of their own industry. Therefore it is vital to manufacture excellent quality goods For these reasons study in this area has brought attention in Korea as well as worldwide in the recent years. Apparel industry which requires professional technology and ability is the most competitive international business. In order to challenge the international market the high level of intelligence is most required to produce high quality goods. The purpose of this study is to analyze the relationship between functions and roles of marketing and to approach problems in more efficient manner. Apparel industry is composed of various programs such as design pattern making merchandising and textile science. To succeed in the business is to give the highest satisfaction to the targeted market. Hence this study will example the factors that determine the Cost Quality and Performance of apparel products. The study will involve following steps; firstly establish relationship between the quality concept and productivity of apparel products Secondly inquire in to marketing strategy laying stress on apparel production related factors focusing on merchandising marketing production and operations Thirdly prospect 21st century apparel industry focusing on garment production and trade and also other countries structural improvement Fourthly establish the new dimension of competitive factors by grasping the actual circumstance of Korea's apparel industry in the international market. The research method will include; First reality approach method by analysing the present state of industry Second literal analysis such as marketing comparisons between leading apparel exporting countries.

패션의류시장에 있어서 하이브리드 마케팅 경로 관리 연구 (Managing Hybrid Marketing Channels for Fashion Apparel Industry(in Korea))

  • 마케팅 경로 관리에 있어서 하이브리드 경로를 활용할 때는 경로 통제 잇점(직접경로)과 경로 관리의 유연성(간접경로)을 동시에 기대할 수 있다. 그러나 동시에 거래 당사자들의 다양한 이질적 기대치와 우선적 권리 확보 성향과 충돌할 수 있는 위험에 노출되게 된다. 따라서, 본 연구는 하이브리드 경로 관리의 비용과 편익에 대한 이해를 높이고자 시작된 것이며, 특히 패션의류시장에서 빈번히 활용되는 하이브리드 마케팅 경로, 당사자 간의 상호 지배문제, 상호 갈등문제 그리고 경로 관리 효율성을 높이고자 수행된 것이다. 이를 위해, 첫째, 기업간 지배 및 기업내 지배 문제를 통해 마케팅 경로 관리를 분석하고 나아가 판매원(샵마스터)관리 문제를 통합하여 분석하고자 한다. 둘째, 본 연구에 제시된 하나의 개별 틀 속에서 경로 지배관련 두 관점을 하나로 통합하여 추후 연구토대를 제시하고있다. 패션의류 메이커와 소매업자간의 경로 관계를 축으로 실증 조사된 결과, 본 연구에서 제시된 이론적 가설이 긍정적으로 뒷받침 되고 있다.

소매업 경영에서 본 수도권 지역과 대구권 지역의 비교 (Comparative Study of the Business Organization of Retailing in the Seoul and Taegu Metropolitan Areas)

  • 우리나라에서 인구규모 이상으로 소매 구매력이 가장 큰 수도권 지역과 3대 도시권으로 구매력이 인구규모보다 작은 대구권 지역의 소매업 경영을 공간적으로 비교한 결과 다음과 같은 점이 밝혀졌다 첫째, 수도권 지역은 소매업의 경영규모가 크고 쇼핑재화 소매업의 구성비가 높은데 비하여, 대구권 지역은 편의재화 소매업의 구성비가 높은 것이 특징이다. 둘째, 대구권 지역은 수도권 지역보다 소매업 중심지구가 미발달되었고, 법인업체의 비율은 높으나 상용 종사자의 비율과 사업체당 연간 판매액의 비율이 낮아 소매업 경영상의 지역적 차이점을 나타내고 있다. 셋째, 수도권 지역의 중심지구는 대구권 지역의 중심지구에 비하여 편의제화와 일부 쇼핑재화를 취급하는 소매업 법인조직이 발달하였으나, 대구권 지역의 경우는 $\ulcorner$섬유, 의복, 신발 및 의복 악세사리 소매업$\lrcorner$의 법인조직과 $\ulcorner$가정용 연료 소매업$\lrcorner$의 상용 종사자 고용이 발달하였다. 그리고 수도권 지역은 $\ulcorner$가정용 연료 소매업$\lrcorner$의 상용 종사자 고용이, 대구권 지역은 $\ulcorner$개인 운수장비 소매업 및 주유소 운영업$\lrcorner$, $\ulcorner$약, 화장품 및 화공약품 소매업$\lrcorner$의 상용 종사자 고용과 $\ulcorner$음식료품 및 담배소매업$\lrcorner$의 개인경영의 발달 유무가 소매업 경영의 지역구조를 결정짓는다.
