Interest in and Attitude toward Fashion Advertising offish-School Girls (여고생의 패션광고에 대한 관심과 광고태도에 관한 연구)

  • Advertising is the most powerful marketing communication tool. Fashion magazines are a popular media for fashion advertising because of their multi-color visual printing. In this study, the interest in and attitude toward fashion advertising were investigated with high school girls in Seoul, along with their interrelation with buying experience and post-purchase satisfaction. The consciousness of the endorser and the fashion of celebrities both increased with rising interest in fashion advertisement. However, the brand orientation showed no relationship with the interest in fashion advertisement. The interest in fashion advertisement was useful to explain buying experience with limited variance. The correlation between brand orientation and buying experience increased with rising interest in fashion advertisement, indicating that those with little interest in fashion advertisement showed strong dependence on brand loyalty. Those with more interest in fashion advertisement counted distinctive aspects of fashion advertisement more seriously. Affective aspects of fashion advertisement showed a correlation with buying experience and post-purchase satisfaction.

  • The outdoor apparel market has been growing very fast recently, and consumers are spending more time doing outdoor activities for their leisure. As the outdoor apparel market is growing, it has started to combine functionality with style to provide more diverse designs and colors for all ages. The increase of interest in heathy life-styles, outdoor activities, and leisure has lead to a rise in demand for outdoor apparel. Now outdoor apparel have become a part of people's daily casual wear in addition to being worn for outdoor activities. This study is focused on a outdoor jacket design which is used as down-alternative material and the purpose of this study is to design outdoor jackets using a down-alternative fabrics that improve the thermal and lightweight effects for clothing comfort, and increase the satisfaction of wearing down-alterative outdoor jacket. The research of this paper was done by using a questionnaire survey. The survey was used to examine the male customers' outdoor activities, purchase behaviors, place, expense and design preferences. Then, down-like fabric was used to make the prototype down jacket and its design, function, and satisfaction with wearing compared with other brands down jacket products were analyzed. Although duck down fabrics are representative of outdoor jackets, they have many problems that need to be solved such as feathers falling out or its vulnerability to moisture. They have competitive prices compared to down jackets so down-alternative jackets are able to gain more proportion of its market share.

A Study on Classification of Apparel Product Quality Characteristics Based on Customer Satisfaction (고객만족에 기초한 의류제품 품질특성분류에 관한 연구)

  • Customer expectations and requirements for products play an important role in product planning for companies and decision making process for the consumer. These expectations are expressed by product qualities that consumers consider important when they purchase. Therefore, to identify quality elements that reflect consumer requirements would be a useful guide for companies. The purposes of this study are to find out quality factors of apparel product, to identify apparel product quality elements using Kano's theory, to find attributes of product which improvement are required. Women over 20 years-old from metropolitan areas in South Korea participated in the study and a quota sampling method was used. A questionnaire was arranged with four separate subject sections, importance of quality, Kano's questionnaires, and demographics. Data from 525 questionnaires were used for the statistical analysis. The results were as follows: Six dimensions of product quality(i.e., usefulness, performance, aesthetic, symbol, individuality and appearance) were identified. According to Kano's quality elements, performance was categorized into must-be quality which could lead to product dissatisfaction. Usefulness and appearance were categorized into one-dimensional quality which lead to both satisfaction and dissatisfaction. Aesthetic, symbol, and individuality was categorized into attractive quality which could lead to satisfaction. Findings of this study provide both industry and academic researchers with a guide to increase customer satisfaction in the product development process.

A Study on Apparel Benefits and Buying Behavior according to Values and Lifestyles (주부의 가치관에 따른 소비자 유형별 의복추구혜택과 구매관련행동 특성)

  • The purposes of this study were 1) to classify female consumers on VALS, 2) to identify the differences of psychological characteristics and demographics among the classified groups, and 3) to investigate the apparel benefits, buying behavior, shopping practices and psychological characteristics of each groups. For the study, a sample of 340 female consumers participated in this survey research. The data was analyzed utilizing descriptive statistics, factor analysis, cluster analysis, $\chi^2$-test, one-way ANOVA and Duncan test. Seven dimensions of values were identified by factor analysis: Consumption-oriented, Achievement-oriented , Diligence/sincerity-oriented, Pessimistic value tendencious, conservative/conventional value oriented, Dignity-oriented and Socialite-oriented. Based on these dimensions female consumers classified into three clusters: inner values-directed group, passive/inactive group, and achievement-oriented group. Achievement-oriented group showed the highest scores in optimum stimulation level and materialism, and tended to be younger and be employed than the other two groups. Both inner values-directed group and achievement-oriented group showed higher scores in self-expression/individuality and quality out of five apparel benefit than passive/inactive group. Innovative communicators, fashion innovators and fashion opinion leaders were mostly in the achievement-oriented group, while fashion followers and fashion indifferents were mostly in the passive/inactive group. It was revealed that achievement-oriented group had a larger number of fashionable clothing items and experienced more activities in vogue. Also, there were significant group differences in shopping practice, such as average monthly allowance, number of annual purchase clothing items.

The Clothing Purchase Tendency of the Department Patronage Consumers According to Shopping Orientation Importance of Store Attributes and Self-image (백화점 주고객층의 쇼핑성향, 점포속성중요도, 자기 이미지에 따른 의복 구매성향)

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the differences between the patronage consumers of the department stores and those of the non-patronage consumers in shopping orientation importance of the store attributes and self-image. Additionaly differences of the two groups are examined according to the demographic variables and the general apparel purchase behavior such as shopping frequency transportation etc,. The questionnaire were administered to 500 women living in Seoul and data were analyzed by frequency percentage factor analysis T-test and {{{{ chi ^2 }}-test. The results were as follows : 1) Significant differences were found in two groups according to shopping orientation. Namely the patronage consumers of the department stores enjoy shopping itself and have a tendency to purchase the clothing in vougue. Also they have more confidence in shopping and show higher store-loyalty that those of the non-partronage consumers. 2) Significant differences were found in two groups regarding importance of the store attributes. The patronage consumers of the department stores place more importance in information service/convenience provided by the department store than those of the non-patronage group while they less consider the product price and assortment. 3) The patronage consumers of the department stores pursue he self-image which reflects sexy and sophisticated image.

The Benefit Segmentation of Female Golfers and their Golf-wear Purchase Behavior (여성의 골프웨어 추구 혜택에 따른 골프관여도와 골프웨어 구매행동)

  • Thanks to the popularization of golf, the population of young golfers including female players has been continuously increasing and the market specialization of golf-wear has been gradually intensifying with a growing number of new import brands in the market. This study is aimed to provide a direction to strengthen and invigorate the competitiveness of domestic golf wear brands through research on the benefits pursued by, the purchase attitudes towards local and overseas brands and the purchasing behaviors of female customers who have emerged as the newest customer group in the golf-wear market. The subjects of the research were 409 female golfers and the statistical analyses used for the study were factor analysis, cluster analysis, ANOVA, Scheffe test, and chi-square test. The results showed that there were six factors sought for golf-wear benefits: figure compensation, brand orientation, comfort, youth/fashion, maturity/conformity, and individuality. Cluster analysis showed that there were three groups of golf-wear benefits sought. Overall, the three groups were different in regard to golf involvement and golf-wear preferences. Based upon the results mentioned above, this study summarizes the key features of each group and can provide applicable suggestions for conducting strategic marketing activities.

Comparative Study on SPA Brand Purchasing Behaviors of 20's and 30's Female between Korea and China (한국과 중국 20-30대 여성들의 SPA브랜드 구매행동비교에 관한 연구)

  • With the rapid developing of economy and the information communication, as well as the fierce competition of marketing, the consumer market of apparel is gradually matured. Also, the consumer has more requirements towards clothes, in terms of quality, style, price level and individuality. As a result, brand fashion, now, needs to accelerate the speed of every stage of producing, which is from designing to the following of finished goods in order to occupy the market share in a fast consuming, variety and individuality pursuing market. An increasing number of industries have focused on the SPA brand so as to adapt the competition of modern market. The paper mainly researches that the differences of purchasing behaviors towards SPA brand between 20's-30's Chinese female and 20's-30's Korean female. The analyzing results of purchase motivation showed difference in the 'personal motivation' and 'social motivation' factor. Purchase standard showed differences in the 'image management' factor. The attitude toward the brand showed differences in the 'practicality' and 'trendiness' factor.

The Effects of Fashion Innovativeness and National Identity on Korean Image Clothing Preferences (유행혁신성과 민족정체성에 따른 한국적 이미지의 의복 선호)

  • The purpose of this research was to investigate the effect of fashion innovativeness and national identity on Korean clothing benefits sought, style preferences, and purchase intention. The subjects were 765 male and female consumers who were residents in Seoul. The data were analyzed by factor analysis, cluster analysis, ANOVA, Scheffe test, and chi-square test. The results were as follows. There were five Korean clothing benefits sought: impression improvement/fashion orientation, national pride, individuality, brand, and comfort. Korean style preferences had four factors of daring/showy, active/simple, elegant, and sophisticated images. The subjects were categorized into three groups by fashion innovativeness and national indentity. The three groups were different in regard to Korean clothing benefits sought, Korean style preferences, and purchase intention. For example, the consumers who had a high fashion innovativeness sought benefits of impression improvement, individuality, and brand name. Also, they preferred daring/showy, elegant, and sophisticated images. In the meanwhile the consumers who had a high national identity sought benefits of national pride, comfort, and impression improvement. Also, they preferred an active/simple style and had an intention to purchase the clothing with Korean image.

A Study on Consumer Behaviors by Types of Lifestyle for Fashion Marketing Strategy (패션잡지 마케팅 전략을 위한 라이프스타일 유형에 따른 소비자 행동연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to observe lifestyle of female consumers aged 15-25. Also it was to measure brand awareness, to determine purchase criteria in fashion magazine, and to determine promotion preferences according to lifestyle segmentation variables. We distributed 600 questionnaires and 475 reliable questionnaires were used for a statical analysis. Data analyses were conducted with SPSS program on the frequency mean value, Chi-square test, Cluster analysis, and Factor analysis. We classified four clusters such as individual style seekers, trend seekers, promotion/good appearance seekers, and low fashion interest group, based on lifestyle variables. There was a significant difference in brand awareness in Vogue Girl, Cosmo Girl, Elle, Figaro, Ecole magazine among four clusters. There was a significant difference in such purchase criteria as favorable cover models, good "burok" which is a magazine supplement, brand names, and price among four clusters. In addition, the results of ANOVA represent that there was a significant difference in preferred types of promotion such as discount price, clothing gifts, fashion accessary gifts and hair tool gifts. However, the first ranked preferred one was a cosmetic gift in all the magazines, which favored more by trend seeker group.

The Qualitative Study on Outdoor Sportswear Purchase Behavior -Focusing on Functional Fabric Awareness Level and Benefits Sought- (아웃도어 스포츠웨어 구매행동에 관한 질적 연구 -기능성 인지수준과 추구 혜택을 중심으로-)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the outdoor sportswear purchase behavior, outdoorwear sportswear brand preference, functional fabric awareness, and benefits sought. The research was performed through in-depth interview during February to March 2011. Data were collected from 10 consumers who had purchased outdoor sportswear and experienced camping in 6 months. First, the results from study showed that functionality/comfortability, design, color, and brand name were important factors in selecting outdoor sportswear. Offline stores were the main place to purchase, however, internet shopping mall and portal online community were another shopping channel as well. Second, respondents preferred imported outdoor sportswear brand to national brand. According to the study, the respondents trusted the imported outdoor sportswear quality based on the brand name, value, and brand history more than national brand. Third, consumers who had low functional fabric awareness were more likely to evaluate apparel products based on the brand name. Knowledge levels for textile functions were high in elastic, UV protection, air permeable, and antibacterial properties. The essential features for camping were water absorbing and quick dry, water resistance, wind proof, UV protection, and fire retardant properties. Finally the results showed that there were two sportswear benefit soughts: functionality and status ostentation.
