Fibromyalgia is a syndrome characterized by chronic pain in the skeletal system accompanied by stiffness, sleep disturbance, fatigue, and psychiatric problems, such as anxiety and depression. Fibromyalgia commonly affects orofacial health, presenting with a variety of oral manifestations, including temporomandibular disorder, xerostomia, glossodynia, and dysgeusia. Therefore, oral healthcare providers need to be aware of this clinical entity to effectively manage oral symptoms and provide proper oral self-care modification and education on the nature of fibromyalgia. This review focuses on the epidemiology, pathophysiology, clinical manifestation, diagnosis, orofacial concerns, and treatment of fibromyalgia.
Anxiety disorders are common illness to general physician. The comorbidity between anxiety disorders and medical illness is not only a diagnostic issue, but also has implications of the course of the disease and its outcome. The comorbid condition requires consideration of each individual illness, their psychological and physiological condition. This article aims to review the literature on the prevalence of anxiety disorders in patients prescribing to psychiatrists and to discuss pharmacological treatment options for patients with a comorbid anxiety disorder and medical illness.

Objectives: Externalized behavioral problems are prevalent in adolescents, due to the difficulties associated with this developmental stage. Conduct Disorder (CD) and Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD), as well as other psychiatric disorders, such as major depressive disorder, result in the manifestation of many behavioral problems during adolescence. Methods: For this report, we analyzed a sample of 31 adolescents, each of whom had presented with CD or ODD at Chosun University Hospital between 2002 and 2010. We separated subjects into depressed and non-depressed groups according to their Beck Depression Inventory scores (BDI<10, non-depressed ; BDI${\geq}$10, depressed). Then we analyzed for neuropsychological differences between the depressed and non-depressed groups. Results: In our sample, adolescents in the depressed group showed less of a stealing (deceitfulness and/or theft) behavioral pattern and presented with more anxiety symptoms, lower self-esteem, and greater sensitivity in interpersonal relationships, as compared to the non-depressed group. Conclusion: When adolescents exhibit disruptive behavior, clinicians should consider the underlying causes of the behavior.

PURPOSE: Physical therapists are at risk of becoming infected because they are in contact with or within 2 meters of the patient while treating them. The purpose of this study is to investigate the anxiety and depression of physical therapists during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic and to identify the factors that affect anxiety and depression. METHODS: A cross-sectional survey was conducted during the pandemic. The survey were completed by 84 physical therapists in 24 local hospitals in Gwangju, South Korea. The Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7 (GAD-7) scale and the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9) were used to evaluate their anxiety and depression status. Logistic regression models were used to identify the general characteristics factors related to anxiety or depression. RESULTS: It was found that 40 (47.6%) respondents had anxiety, and 37 (44%) had depression. If there was a child under the age of seven in the physical therapist's family, a high probability of anxiety (p < .05) prevailed. Physical therapists in their 30s had a higher risk of depression than those in their 40s (p < .05). The risk of anxiety and depression in physical therapists who were with patients who did not wear masks was higher than for those who were with patients who wore masks (p < .05). CONCLUSION: The anxiety and depression status of physical therapists in Gwangju, South Korea, during the pandemic of COVID-19 was poor. It is necessary to wear a mask for all people during physical therapy.
Objectives: The purpose of the present study was to investigate the emotional state and personality characteristics of patient with panic disorder. Methods: Twenty patients with panic disorder, 21 patients with somatoform disorder, and 20 normal healthy controls were studied. Korean version of Beck Depression Inventory(BDI), State and Trait Anxiety Inventory(STAI) and Korean standardized edition of Cattell's 16 Personality Factors Questionnaire(16-PF) were used for assessment. Statistically, One-way ANOVA with Scheffe test were used by SPSS/PC for windows. Results: 1) Total score of BDI was higher in the panic group than the somatoform group and normal control group(p<0.001). 2) Total score of state anxiety and trait anxiety in the panic group was higher than the somatoform group and normal control group(p<0.001). 3) In 16 PF, there were no definitely abnormal range of scores. But in first-stratum source traits of 16PF, the panic group was higher than the somatoform group and normal healthy group in O-factor (p<0.01) and Q4-factor(p<0.001). In second-stratum source traits of 16PF, the panic group was higher than the somatoform group in ANX-factor(p<0.05), but lower than normal control group in TOUfactor(p<0.05). 4) There were no differences in the panic subgroup according to sex and cutoff points of BDI score 16 and STAI-T score 54. 5) According to cutoff point of STAI-S score 52, the panic subgroup above 52 was higher than the panic subgroup under 52 in G-factor(p<0.001), Q3-factor(p<0.05) and SUP-factor(p<0.001), but lower in L-factor(p<0.05). Conclusion: These results suggest that emotional state of patients with panic disorder are depressive and anxious as compared with patients with somatoform disorder and normal controls. Patients with panic disorder did not show any abnormal personality characteristics but were more guilt-prone, anxious, emotionally sensitive. We propose that the understanding of panic patients' emotional state and personality characteristics will helpful to treat and manage in patient with panic disorder.
This study was designed to evaluate anxiety & depression symptoms and pressure pain threshold in patients with posttraumatic stress disorder(n=23) and to find out the relationship between the affective symptoms and the pressure pain threshold scores. And this was compared with healthy control subjects(n=18). The scores of pressure pain threshold were checked with algometer. The results were as follows : PTSD patients showed higher scores of anxiety & depression symptoms than that of the control group. In contrast with our hypothesis, pressure pain threshold in PTSD patients presented statistically significant higher scores than that of the control group. These results may be derived from following factors. First, chronic depression has influenced the pain perception of patients with PTSD rather than anxiety symptoms, second, abnormal state of the opiate system in PTSD patients, third, the sick role of the PTSD patients, fourth, the socio-environmental factor of the PTSD patients. In conclusion, affective symptoms, especially depression, were related to the chronic pain in patients with PTSD, however, the causality of elevated pressure pain threshold was uncertain in this study. To understand more clearly the relation between affective symptoms and chronic pain, it will be necessary to control the other specific factors.

Objective : The purpose of this study was to investigate the prevalence of social anxiety disorder (SAD) and its association with psychosocial factors including self-esteem, ego-resiliency, and social support in a sample of medical students. Methods : A total of 405 medical students were included in this study. Subjects were asked to complete a self-reported questionnaire, measures of the Social Phobia Inventory (SPIN), the Rosenberg's Self-Esteem Scale (RSES), the Ego-Resiliency Scale (ERS), and the Duke-UNC Functional Social Support Questionnaire (DUFSS). The SAD and non-SAD group were defined using the SPIN score of 25 as a cut-off. The multiple regression analyses were performed to examine the association of self-esteem, ego-resiliency, and social support with SAD symptoms. Results : A total of 79 subjects (19.5%) were identified with SAD. The total RSES score, ERS score, and DUFSS score were significantly lower in the SAD group than the non-SAD group. The total SPIN score negatively correlated with the total RSES score (r=-0.481, p<0.001), the ERS score (r=-0.417, p<0.001), and the DUFSS score (r=-0.406, p<0.001). In the multiple regression, SAD symptoms were associated with self-esteem (β=-0.549, p<0.001), ego-resiliency (β=-0.395, p<0.001), and social support (β=-0.346, p<0.001). Conclusion : This study revealed the prevalence of SAD and its negative association with self-esteem, ego-resiliency, and social support among medical students. Our findings indicate that improving self-esteem and ego-resiliency as well as perceived social support may contribute to the management of SAD symptoms among medical students.
Objective : The purpose of this study was to investigate consensus relative to treatment strategies for psychosocial treatment in panic disorder, that represents one subject addressed by the Korean guidelines for treatment of panic disorder 2018. Methods : The executive committee developed questionnaires relative to treatment strategies for patients with panic disorder based on guidelines, algorithms, and clinical trials previously published in foreign countries and Korea. Seventy-two (61.0%) of 112 experts on a committee reviewing panic disorder responded to the questionnaires. We classified the consensus of expert opinions into three categories (first-line, second-line, and third-line treatment strategies), and identified treatment of choice using the Chi-square test and 95% confidence intervals. Results : For psychosocial treatment of panic disorder, individual and group cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) were recommended treatments of choice, and mindfulness based cognitive therapy (MBCT) was recommended as first line strategy. There was statistically significant consensus among experts regarding usefulness of each component of CBT and MBCT, for treatment of patients with panic disorder. Conclusion : Results, that reflect recent studies and clinical experiences, may provide the guideline for psychosocial treatment strategies for panic disorder.
This study of a music therapy program for the 18 subjects residing in Jeollanam-do province was conducted two times per week during 4 months totalling 17 times in order to evaluate the reduction of the characteristics of patients suffering from stress disorder patients such as depression, and anxiety, Though the experiment for non-symmetric level the concentration and appearance of Alpha wave were determine to be stable but the findings from non-symmetric level according to the left-right brain activity were not significant for T-test, though its effective intermission of music therapy due to variation of the mean values was demonstrated, and the variation of the Alpha wave appearance rate was also significant for the statistics of the T-test for the effectiveness of the music therapy. And for the reduction of depression, emotion, and state-trait anxiety between groups divided into the control group and the experiment, pre-measurement and post-measurement comparisons through psychological tess, validated the effectiveness of music therapy for Posttraumatic stress disorder patients. First of all, this study was conducted in the situation of scarce study cases and program developments for the efficacy of music therapy for the patients suffering from Posttraumatic stress disorders without precedent studies of scientific identification through brain wave measurement. Because this study is insightful in the context of validating the efficacy of musical treatment, we expect that these kinds of studises will be continued.
