장시간 고온 환경 노출시 수분의 섭취가 프로골프선수들의 신체피로도 및 심박수에 미치는 영향 (The Effect of Sport Drink Ingestion on the Physical Fatigue Level and Heart Rate during Prolonged Exposure in Hot Ambient Temperature in Professional Golfers)

  • We investigated the effects of prolonged exposure in hot environmental condition and ingestion of fluid on various physiological variables including plasma glucose, lactate, the rating of perceived exertion (RPE), and heart rate as well as golf putting performance. Six male professional golfers were voluntarily participated in three different putting trials which were separated by seven days of time interval period. Three different putting trials were conducted at either 20℃ or 32℃, or 32℃ + Fluid ingestion. Performing 32℃ + Fluid ingestion trial, all subject ingested sport drink as much as their body mass was decreased. For each experiment, all subjects were undertaken total 48 putting, which separated by four x 12 putting in four different time points (i.e., Rest, 1 hr, 2 hr, and 3 hr). Plasma glucose concentration was significantly decreased with hot ambient condition but it was almost fully recovered by fluid ingestion. Plasma lactate concentration was significantly higher when subjects were exposed in hot environmental condition, and it did not change with fluid ingestion. There was a no different in putting performance and psychological fatigue level (performed by GRID test) at any environmental conditions. The RPE, commonly used for evaluating of physical fatigue level, was significantly dropped by fluid ingestion which indicates lower physical fatigue level. In addition to this, heart rate (HR) was also significantly decreased after fluid ingestion. Based on these results, it was concluded that the ingestion of fluid during prolonged exposure in hot ambient condition decrease the degree of physical fatigue levels and heart rate, which will possibly improve the golf performance when exposed in extreme weather condition in summer.   • This study was designed to investigate the effects of mulberry (Morus alba L.) leaf extract (MLE) on oxygen radicals and their scavenger enzymes in liver membranes of rats. Sprague-Dawley (SD) male rats (160$\pm$10 g) were fed basic diet (control group), and experimental diets (MLE-100 and MLE-300 groups) added 100 and 300 mg/kg BW/day for 6 weeks. Hydroxyl radical (.OH) levels resulted in a significant decreases (15.2% and 18.1%, 5.6% and 8.0%, respectively) in liver mitochondria and microsomes could be not obtained. These are no significant differences in superoxide radical ($O_2$) levels of liver cytosol in MLE-100 and MLE-300 groups compared with control group. Lipid peroxide (LPO) levels were slightly decreased about 13.6% and 6.1% in liver mitochondria and microsomes of MLE-300 group compared with control group. Oxidized protein (OP) levels were remarkably decreased about 16.9% and 27.2% in liver microsomes only of MLE-100 and MLE-300 group compared with control group. Mn-SOD activities in liver mitochondria were remarkably increased (18.2% and 28.7%, respectively) in MLE-100 and MLE-300 groups, and Cu,Zn-SOD activities in liver cytosol were also significantly increased (11.3% and 20.2%, respectively) in MLE-100 and MLE-300 groups compared with control group. Mn-SOD activities in liver mitochondria were remarkably increased (18.2% and 28.7%, respectively) in MLE-100 and MLE-300 groups, and Cu,Zn-SOD activities in liver cytosol were also significantly increased (11.3% and 20.2%, respectively) in MLE-100 and MLE-300 groups compared with control group, but significant difference between GSHPx activities in liver cytosol could be not obtained. These results suggest that anti-aging effect of mulberry leaf extract (MLE) may play a pivotal role in attenuating a various age-related changes.

당근 당 단백질의 기능성 화장품 소재로서의 응용성 (Application as a Functional Cosmetic Ingredient of Carrot Glycoprotein)

  • 본 연구에서 당근에서 제조한 CG의 기능성 화장품 소재로서의 응용성을 SCP와 비교 검토하기 위하여 CG와 SCP를 적용한 각각의 기능성 크림을 제조하였다. CG와 SCP를 적용한 각각의 기능성 크림에서의 변색, 변취 및 크리밍 현상이나 응집 등의 관능검사와 pH, 점도 등의 물성 변화는 $5^{\circ}C$, $25^{\circ}C$에서 매우 안정하다. 피부에서의 수분손실량 및 수분 함유량의 변화를 측정한 결과에서도 CG의 보습작용이 우수한 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 결과를 토대로 CG를 함유한 크림은 SCP를 함유한 크림과 마찬가지로 피부에 보습 효과가 우수하여 주름개선에도 큰 영향을 줄 것으로 예상된다.

Human collagen alpha-2 type I stimulates collagen synthesis, wound healing, and elastin production in normal human dermal fibroblasts (HDFs)

  • Skin aging appears to be the result of overlapping intrinsic (including genetic and hormonal factors) and extrinsic (external environment including chronic light exposure, chemicals, and toxins) processes. These factors cause decreases in the synthesis of collagen type I and elastin in fibroblasts and increases in the melanin in melanocytes. Collagen Type I is the most abundant type of collagen and is a major structural protein in human body tissues. In previous studies, many products containing collagen derived from land and marine animals as well as other sources have been used for a wide range of purposes in cosmetics and food. However, to our knowledge, the effects of human collagen-derived peptides on improvements in skin condition have not been investigated. Here we isolate and identify the domain of a human COL1A2-derived protein which promotes fibroblast cell proliferation and collagen type I synthesis. This human COL 1A2-derived peptide enhances wound healing and elastin production. Finally, the human collagen alpha-2 type I-derived peptide (SMM) ameliorates collagen type I synthesis, cell proliferation, cell migration, and elastin synthesis, supporting a significant anti-wrinkle effect. Collectively, these results demonstrate that human collagen alpha-2 type I-derived peptides is practically accessible in both cosmetics and food, with the goal of improving skin condition.

  • Microalgae are functional foods because they contain special anti-aging inhibitors and other functional components, such as ecosapentaenoic acid (EPA), docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), and omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids. Many of these functional dietary components are absent in animals and terrestrial plants. Thus, microalgae are widely utilized in human functional foods and in the feed provided to farmed fish and terrestrial livestock. Many marine organisms consume microalgae, often because they are in an appropriate portion of the cell size spectrum, but also because of their nutritional content. The nutritional requirements of marine organisms differ from those of terrestrial animals. After hatching, marine animals need small live forage species that have high omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acid contents, including EPA and DHA. Euglena cells have both plant and animal characteristics; they are motile, elliptical in shape, 15-500 μm in diameter, and have a valuable nutritional content. Mixotrophic cell cultivation provided the best growth rates and nutritional content. Diverse carbon (fructose, lactose, glucose, maltose and sucrose) and nitrogen (tryptone, peptone, yeast extract, urea and sodium glutamate) supported the growth of microalgae with high lipid contents. We found that the best carbon and nitrogen sources for the production of high quality Euglena cells were glucose (10 g L–1) and sodium glutamate (1.0 g L–1), respectively.

The Longevity Properties of 1,2,3,4,6-Penta-O-Galloyl-β-D-Glucose from Curcuma longa in Caenorhabditis elegans

  • Here in this study, we isolated 1,2,3,4,6-penta-O-galloyl-${\beta}$-D-glucose (PGG) from Curcuma longa L. and elucidated the lifespan-extending effect of PGG using Caenorhabditis elegans model system. In the present study, PGG demonstrated potent lifespan extension of worms under normal culture condition. Then, we determined the protective effects of PGG on the stress conditions such as thermal and oxidative stress. In the case of heat stress, PGG-treated worms exhibited enhanced survival rate, compared to control worms. In addition, PGG-fed worms lived longer than control worms under oxidative stress induced by paraquat. To verify the possible mechanism of PGG-mediated increased lifespan and stress resistance of worms, we investigated whether PGG might alter superoxide dismutase (SOD) activities and intracellular ROS levels. Our results showed that PGG was able to elevate SOD activities of worms and reduce intracellular ROS accumulation in a dose-dependent manner.

식물추출물(YGF)의 lGF-1 분비촉진에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Plant Extract(YGF) on Inducing IGF-1 Secretion)

  • 신체성장은 세포수가 증가하고 세포의 크기가 커지면서 신체의 크기가 증가하는 것으로서 몸을 구성하는 성분인 단백질이 증가를 수반하고 골격과 근육이 커지며 이득의 기능도 강화된다. 사람의 키가 커진다는 것은 팔과 다리의 긴 뼈가 늘어나야 하는 것인데 이와같은 성장은 호르몬의 작용에 의해서 이루어진다. 본 연구에서는 이와같은 성장에 미치는 영향을 검토하기 위해 성장호르몬 및 IGF-1의 분비촉진 여부를 확인하였다. 체외 래트 성장호르몬의 분비량은 88 - 99 ng/mL으로 대조군에 비해 약 6배 이상의 성장호르몬이 분비되었다. 또한 생체내 IGF-1 분비촉진 효과실헐에서는 YGF 투여 후 8시간에서 1140 ng/mL 정도로 대조군에 비해 현저하게 높은 혈중 IGF-1의 농도가 유지되었다. YGF를 장기 복용시킨 경우 실제로 대퇴부 배의 길이성장이 약 6% 정도 이루어졌음을 확인할 수 있었다. 따라서 본 실험을 통해 확인된 성장호르몬 및 IGF-1 분비촉진을 유발하는 식물 추출물 YGF에 대해 좀더 연구개발하여 키 성장이 저조한 어린이 및 청소년에게 신체성장에 도움이 될 수 있도록 되었으면 한다.

Hydroxyl radical (.OH) lecels resulted in significant decreases (13.4% and 21.1%, 12.0% and 13.4%, respectively) in brain mitochondria and microsome of MLE-100 and MLE-300 groups compared with control group. Superoxide radical ($O_2$) levels were significantly decreased about 12% in brain cytosol of MLE-300 group compared with control group. Lipid peroxide (LPO) levels were effectively inhibited (18.1% and 12.3%, respectively) in brain mitochondria and microsomes of MLE-300 groups compared with control group. Oxidized protein (OP) levels were significantly decreased (14.2%, and 10.9%, respectively) in brain mitochondria and microsomes of MLE-300 groups compared with control group. Mn-SOD activities in brain mitochondria were significantly increased (13.5% and 18.6%, respectively) in MLE-100 and MLE-300 groups, and Cu/Zn-SOD activities in brain cytosol were also effectively increased (about 17.7%) in MLE-300 groups compared with control group. GSHPx activities in brain cytosol were remarkably increased (17.2% and 23.9%, respectively) in MLE-100 and MLE-300 groups compared with control group. These results suggest that anti-aging effect of mulberry leaf extract (MLE) may play a pivotal role in attenuating a various age-related changes in brain.

  • This study was designed to investigate the effects of silk fibroin(Mw 500) powder (SFP) on oxygen radicals and the scavenger enzymes in brain membranes of rats. Spragu-Dawley(SD) male rats(160${\pm}$10g) were fed basic diet(control group), and experimental diets(SFP-2.5 and SFP-5.0 groups) added 2.5 and 5.0g/kg BW/day for 6 weeks. Hydroxyl radical($.$OH) levels resulted in a decreases(6.6% and 9.7%, 2.8% and 11.9%, respectively) in brain mitochondria and microsomes of SFP-2.5 and SFP-5.0 groups compared with control group, but were significantly decreased in these membrances of SFP-5.0 group only. Superoxide radical (O2) levels were a slightly decreased (2.0% and 9.1%, respectively) in brain cytosol of SFP-2.5 and SFP-5.0 groups compared with control group. Lipid peroxide(LPO) levels were significantly decreased (12.9% and 21.9%, 13.2% and 22.5%, respectively) in brain mitochondria and microsomes of SFP-2.5 and SFP-5.0 groups compared with control group. Oxidized protein (OP) levels were significantly decreased (16.7% and 15.7%, respectively) in brain microsomes of SFP-2.5 and SFP-5.0 group compared with control group, but significantly difference between in brain mitochondria of these two groups could not be obtained. Mn-SOD activities were remarkably increased (11.2% and 24.2%, respectively) in mitochodria of SFP-2.5 and SFP-5.0 groups. CuZn-SOD activities were effectively increased (7.7% and 19.6%, respectively) in brain cytosol of SFP-2.5 and SFP-5.0 groups, but significant difference between control and SFP-2.5 groups could be not obtained. GSHPx activities were considerably increased (5.3% and 11.7%, respectively) in brain cytosol of SFP-2.0 and SFP-5.0 groups compared with control group. There results suggest that anti-aging effect of silk fibroin may play an effective learning and memory role in a attenuating a oxidative stress and increasing a scavenger enzyme activity in brain membranes.

아위버섯의 성분에 관한 연구 (Stuy on the Composition of Pleurotus ferulae Fruit Body)

  • 아위버섯을 약용과 식용으로 이용하고자 일반성분, 무기질, 구성아미노산, 유리 아미노산, 비타민 등을 분석검토한 결과 조지방이 8.0 g%, 탄수화물이 54.3 g%, 조단백질이 20.2 g%이었다. 무기물은 K가 2,337.0 mg%으로 가장 많이 함유 되어있고, Mg, Na, Zn, Ca, Fe의 순으로 함유되었다. 구성 아미노산은 glutamic acid가 13.65 %mol로 가장 많이 함유되어있고, aspartic acid, glysine, alanine, leucine, arginine, valine, lysine등의 순으로 17종의 아미노산을 함유하고 있으며 필수아미노산은 37,78 %mol이었다. 유리아미노산은 alanine이 547.97 $\mu\textrm{g}$%으로 가장 많이 함유되어 있고, phenylalanine, tyrosine, leucine 등의 순이며, 총 함유량은 2,737.38 $\mu\textrm{g}$%이고, 21종을 함유하고 있기 때문에 아위버섯의 맛이 좋을 것이라 생각되어 진다. 비타민의 경우 vitamin A가 0.12 mg%, vitamin B$_1$은 0.31 mg%, vitamin B$_2$는 0.68 mg%, vitamin C는 7.99 mg%, vitamin E는 316.88 mg%, vitamin D$_3$는 0.29 mg%을 함유하였고, 비타민의 총 함유량은 326.27 mg%이었다. 특히 vitamin C와 vitamin E가 많이 함유되어 노화방지에 좋으리라 생각된다.
