Electrochemical Characteristics of Carbon-coated Si/Cu/graphite Composite Anode

  • The carbon-coated Si/Cu powder has been prepared by mechanical ball milling and hydrocarbon gas decomposition methods. The phase of Si/Cu powder was analyzed using X-ray diffraction (XRD), dispersive Raman spectroscopy, electron probe microanalysis (EPMA) and transmission electron microscope (TEM). The carbon-coated Si/Cu powders were used as anode active material for lithium-ion batteries. Their electrochemical properties were investigated by charge/discharge test using commercial LiCo$O_2$ cathode and lithium foil electrode, respectively. The surface phase of Si/Cu powders consisted of carbon phase like the carbon nanotubes (CNTs) with a spacing layer of 0.35 nm. The carbon-coated Si/Cu/graphite composite anode exhibited a higher capacity than commercial graphite anode. However, the cyclic efficiency and the capacity retention of the composite anode were lower compared with graphite anode as cycling proceeds. This effect may be attributed to some mass limitations in LiCo$O_2$ cathode materials during the cycling.

  • A simple bi-layer structure of organic light emitting diode (OLED) was used to study the characteristics of anode preparation. Indium tin oxide (ITO) anode surface treatment of OLEDs was performed to get the optimum condition for the ITO anode. The ITO surface was treated by $O_2$ or $O_2$ / Ar mixed gas plasma with different processing time. The electrical characteristics of OLED were improved by plasma treatment. The operating voltage of OLED with $O_2$ or $O_2$/Ar mixed gas plasma treated anodes decreases from 8.2 to 3.4 V and 3.2V, respectively. The $O_2$ /Ar mixed gas plasma treatment results in better electrical property.

  • Orthorhombic $LiMnO_2$(o-$LiMnO_2$) has attracted public attentions as a cathode materials of Lithium ion battery because it has low cost and high theoretical discharge capacity of 285mAh $g^{-1}$. In our study, o-$LiMnO_2$ is synthesized by quenching method. To verify their phase structure, X-ray diffraction is accomplished. Test cells are assembled to check electrochemical characteristics using acquired o-$LiMnO_2$ cathode and carbon anode. Charge/Discharge cycling was carried out for 50cycles. And impedance was measured at 1, 2, 5, 10, 30, 50cycle. During cycle test, the max discharge capacity was recorded 139mAh $g^{-1}$ at 10cycle.

  • The latch-up current and switching characteristics of MOS-Controlled Thyristor(MCT) are studied with variation of the channel length and impurity concentration. The proposed MCT power device has the lateral structure and P-epitaxial layer in substrate. Two dimensional MEDICI simulator is used to study the latch-up current and forward voltage-drop from the characteristics of I-V and the switching characteristics with variation of impurity concentration. The channel length and impurity concentration of the proposed MCT power device show the strong affect on the anode current and turn-off time. The increase of impurity concentration in P and N channels is found to give the increase of latch-up current and forward voltage-drop.

  • Fuel cell is a modular, high efficient and environmentally energy conversion device, it has become a promising option to replace the conventional fossil fuel based electric power plants. The high temperature fuel cell has conspicuous feature and high potential in being used as an energy converter of various fuel to electricity and heat. And, The research and development for the solid oxide fuel cell have been promoted rapidly and extensively in recent years, because of their high efficiency and future potential. Therefore this paper describes the manufacturing method and characteristics of anode electrode for solid oxide fuel cell, by the way, Ni-YSZ materials are used as anode of high temperature widely. So in this experiments, we investigated the optimum content of Ni, by the impedance characteristics, overvoltage. As a result, the performance of Ni-YSZ anode(40vol%) was better excellent than the others.

  • This study has been investigated that traps generated inside of the oxide and at the oxide interfaces by the stress bias voltage. The traps are charged near the cathode with negative charge and charged near the anode with positive charge. The charge state of the traps can easily be changed by application of low voltages after the stress high voltage. These trap generation involve either electron impact ionization processes or high field generation processes. It determined to the relative traps locations inside the oxides ranges from 113.4$\AA$ to 814$\AA$ with capacitor areas of 10$^{-3}$ $\textrm{cm}^2$ . The oxide charge state of traps generated by the stress high voltage contain either a positive or a negative charge.

Ni/CGO Cermet Anode의 특성 최적화 (Property Optimization of Ni/CGO Cermet Anodes)

  • Ni/CGO cermets were fabricated as the anode for SOFC which uses CGO as the electrolyte. And their electrical conductivity, electrochemical reactivity, and thermal expansion coefficient were optimized through the variation of NiO/CGO particle size ration and their composition. The electrical conductivity of the cermet was increased abruptly at a certain Ni content and the percolation concentration was decreased with the decreasing particle size ratio. Anodic overpotential was also decreased with the decreasing particle size ratio. For a fixed ratio it showed a minimum value at 50 wt.%. Thermal expansion coefficient was increased monotonically with increasing Ni contents, however it did not depend on the size ratio. With three properties taken into account, the cermet of particle size ration of 0.03 and composition of 50 wt.% was judged to be optimal as the anode.

Fundamental Approach to Capacity Prediction of Si-Alloys as Anode Material for Li-ion Batteries

  • Various Si-Fe-Al ternary alloys were prepared with the same amount of Si by the melt spinning technique. The feasibility of the capacity prediction approach based on the estimation of the active amount of Si using the phase diagram was practically examined and reported. These predictions were verified by the electrochemical test of fabricated coin cells and other characterization methods. The capacity prediction approach using the phase diagram might be a fundamental and efficient method to accelerate the practical application of Si-based alloys as the anode material for Li-ion batteries. The details on the prediction procedure were discussed.

  • Wire Ion Plasma Source (WIPS) is a plasma device which has a thin wire anode, a coaxially-set cylindrical cathode and electrodes located in both ends of the cylinder. The potential between the anode and cathode changes logarithmically by this electrode configuration. This electrode configuration enables high-density plasma to produce even at a low anode voltage. Since the electrode configuration is axially symmetric and long. plasma with axially uniform number density can be produced. Using particle-in-cell(PIC) and Monte Carlo collision(MCC), we investigate the traiectory of electrons and the characteristics of D.C. discharge in Wire ton Plasma Source.

  • The molten carbonate fuel cell has conspicuous feature and high potential in being used as an energy converter of various fuel to electricity and heat. However, the MCFC which use strongly corrosive molten carbonate at 650$^{\circ}C$ have many problem. Systematic investigation on corrosion behavior of Fe/20Cr/Ti alloys has been done in (62+38)mol% (Li+K)CO$_3$ melt at 923K by using steady state polarization and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy method. And, The research and development for the solid oxide fuel cell have been promoted rapidly and extensively in recent years, because of their high efficiency and future potential. Therefore this paper describes the manufacturing method and characteristics of anode electrode for SOFC, by the way, Ni-YSZ materials are used as anode of SOFC widely. So in this experiments, we investigated the optimum content of Ni, by the impedance characteristics, overvoltage. As a result, the performance of Ni-YSZ anode(47vo1%) was bettor excellent than the others.
