  • A constitutive equation was implemented in order to model the behavior in overall ranges from small to large strains, which is based on anisotropic hardening rule and total stress concept. The constitutive model was implemented in ABAQUS code in which large deformation analysis can be performed accurately and efficiently. The formulation includes (1) finite strain plasticity on the basis of Jaumann stress rate, (2) implicit stress integration and (3) consistent tangent moduli. A large deformation analysis was performed with the constitutive model using ABAQUS program. In the analysis of an actual embankment, it was found that the proposed model was formulated accurately and efficiently.

  • A total stress-based bounding surface model is developed to predict the undrained behaviour of saturated soft clays under cyclic loads based on the anisotropic hardening modulus field and bounding-surface theories. A new hardening rule is developed based on a new interpolation function of the hardening modulus that has simple mathematic expression and fewer model parameters. The evolution of hardening modulus field is described in the deviatoric stress space. It is assumed that the stress reverse points are the mapping centre points and the mapping centre moves with the variation of loading and unloading paths to describe the cyclic stress-strain hysteresis curve. In addition, by introducing a model parameter that reflects the accumulation rate and level of shear strain to the interpolation function, the cyclic shakedown and failure behaviour of soil elements with different combinations of initial and cyclic stresses can be captured. The methods to determine the model parameters using cyclic triaxial compression tests are also studied. Finally, the cyclic triaxial extension and torsional shear tests are performed. By comparing the predictions with the test results, the model can be used to describe undrained cyclic stress-strain responses of elements with different stress states for the tested clays.

  • The design analysis of axisymmetric, multi-stage deep drawing dies was performed using the rigid-viscoplastic finite element formulation. In the formulation, the axisymmetric CFS algorithm was employed. Hill's non-quadratic normal anisotropic yield criterion and isotropic hardening rule were considered. For trial initial displacements and tool contact points, the geometric force equilibrium method was adopted. In order to see the validity of the formulation, the multi-stage deep drawing processes of shell-cylinder front part of hydraulic booster were simulated. The simulation showed good agreements with measurements and PAM-STAMP.

  • This study is focused on the constitutive model in order to represent brittleness and dilatancy for cohesionless soils. The constitutive model was based on an anisotropic hardening rule derived from generalized isotropic hardening nile, which includes an appropriate hardening equation for the overall strain behavior at small to large strains. The yield surface is a simple cylinder type in stress space and it makes the model practically useful. Hence dilatancy behavior in cohesionless soils could be modeled reasonably. A peak stress ratio was defined in order to model brittle stress-strain relationships. An optimized design methodology was proposed on the basis of real-coded genetic algorithm in order to determine parameters for the proposed model systematically. The material parameters were then determined by that algorithm. In order to verify the proposed model, triaxial tests were performed under $K_0$ conditions far weathered soils. In comparison with the triaxial test results under $K_0$ conditions, the proposed model could calculate appropriately the actual effective stress behavior on brittle stress-strain relationships and dilatancy.

  • A p-version finite element model based on degenerate shell element is proposed for the analysis of orthotropic laminated plates. In the nonlinear formulation of the model, the total Lagrangian formulation is adopted with large deflection and moderate rotation being accounted for in the sense of von Karman hypothesis. The material model Is based on the Huber-Mises yield criterion and Prandtl-Reuss flow rule in accordance with the theory of strain hardening yield function, which is generalized for anisotropic materials by introducing the parameters of anisotropy. The model is also based on extension of equivalent-single layer laminate theory(ESL theory) with shear deformation, leading to continuous shear strain at the interface of two layers. The Integrals of Legendre Polynomials we used for shape functions with p-level varying from 1 to 10. Gauss-Lobatto numerical quadrature is used to calculate the stresses at the nodal points instead of Gauss points. The validity of the proposed p-version finite element model is demonstrated through several comparative points of view in terms of ultimate load, convergence characteristics, nonlinear effect, and shape of plastic zone

  • A new finite element model will be presented to analyze the nonlinear behavior of not only RC beams and slabs, but also RC beams strengthened by a patch repair. The numerical approach is based on the p-version degenerate shell element including theory of anisotropic laminated composites, theory of materially and geometrically nonlinear plates. In the nonlinear formulation of this model, the total Lagrangian formulation is adopted with large deflections and moderate rotations being accounted for in the sense of von Karman hypothesis. The material model is based on hardening rule, crushing condition, plate-end debonding strength model and so on. The Gauss-Lobatto numerical quadrature is applied to calculate the stresses at the nodal points instead of Gauss points. The validity of the proposed p-version finite element model is demonstrated through several numerical examples for the load-deflection curves, the ultimate loads, and the failure modes of reinforced connote slabs and RC beams bonded with steel plates or FRP plates compared with available experimental and numerical results.

  • The sectional forming analysis of stamping pocesses for aluminum alloy sheet metals was investigated. For the modeling of the anomalous behavior of aluminum alloy sheet. the Barlat's strain rate potential and Hill's 1990 non-quadratic yield theory with an isotropic hardening rule were employed. The rigid-viscoplastic FEM formulation which solves equilibrium equation for plane-strain stage with mesh-normal geometric constraints was derived. A new method to determine the Barlat's anisotropic coefficients was also suggested. To verify the validity of the formulation, the stretch and draw forming processes of a square cup were simulated.
