  • Research field on crowd animation can be classified into two major categories. One is to offer realism of the crowd motion and the other is to improve speed of the animation. For the last decade, a lot of research on realism and behavior of crowd have been presented. But lately, research on improving speed seems like more interesting. Therefore, in this paper, we conducted an experiment to analyze what is the main bottleneck of crowd animation. As the result, we find out one of the most important bottleneck is the number of joints transformed in each animation frame. In order to resolve this problem we propose a novel level-of-detail technique 'motion level-of-detail', which is a joint-reduction technique operated in the pre-processing time. We used a non-linear optimization, SQP (sequential quadric programming), to generate the low detailed motions.

  • Since the early age of computer graphics, facial animation has been applied to various fields, and nowadays it has found several novel applications such as virtual reality(for representing virtual agents), teleconference, and man-machine interface. When we want to apply facial animation to the system with multiple participants connected via network, it is hard to animate facial expression as we desire in real-time because of the size of information to maintain an efficient communication. This paper's major contribution is to adapt 'Level-of-Detail'to the facial animation in order to solve the above problem.Level-of-Detail has been studied in the field of computer graphics to reperesent the appearance of complicated objects in efficient and adaptive way, but until now no attempt has mode in the field of facial animation. In this paper, we present a systematic scheme which enables this kind of adaptive control using Level-of-Detail.The implemented system can generate speech synchronized facial expressions with various types of user input such as text, voice, GUI, head motion, etc.

  • The level-of-detail (LoD), which is a method of reducing polygons on mesh, is one of the most fundamental techniques in real-time rendering. In this paper, we propose a novel level-of-detail technique applied to the virtual character's motion (Motion LoD). The movement of a virtual character can be defined as the transformation of each joint and it's relation to the mesh. The basic idea of the proposed 'Motion LoD' method is to reduce number of joints in an articulated figure and minimize the error between original and simplified motion. For the motion optimization, we propose an error estimation method and a linear system reconstructed from this error estimation for a fast optimization. The proposed motion simplification method is effectively useful for motion editing and real-time crowd animation.

  • This paper presents a new methodology for specification and control of the motion of an articulated rigid body for the purposes of animation by coordinate transformations. The approach is to formulate the problem as a coordinate transformation from the joint space of the body to a user-defined animation space which is chosen for convenience in constraining the motion. Constraints are applied to the resulting coordinate transformation equations. It is sufficiently general so that it can be applied to all common types of control problems, including closed loop as well as open loop mechanisms. We also provided a new approach to simulate a closed loop mechanism, which is using animation space transformation technique. The method is formulated in detail and is demonstrated by animating the motion of an inchworm.

  • Cultural contents industry is a kernel industry based on knowledge. This study is to suggest some complements by watching and analyzing cultural industry policy and status of especially animation America, England, France and Japan and that of Korea to aim at American market. I described financial resources, creation and technology, development of human resources, export method, improvement of legal system for the supplementary method of animation export strategy. This reports could be applicable as a information to plan industry policy or to develop detail program.

  • This paper examines how the design of female characters in Disney animations is evolving over time, and explores whether these changes are related to the social status of women in modern society. We analyze in detail how Disney's female character design has undergone changes in form, characteristics, and personality with the transition from 2D animation to 3D animation, and show that the change in perception of women in modern society is behind this change. It shows. It deals with changes in the design and personality of female characters, focusing on major Disney animation works before and after 2010. Starting with the movie <Rapunzel>, released in 2010, female characters showed stronger and more active characteristics and changed from traditional Disney princesses. Disney is bringing about this social change by breaking away from the image of an independent woman and showing the growth process of overcoming hardships based on one's abilities and the support of one's family, as well as the increasing number of female characters of various races and appearances. The conclusion was reached that it shows a conscious and active willingness to accept it.

  • Chang'an (Chinese: 长安三万里), also known as 30,000 Miles from Chang'an, is a 2023 Chinese 3D animated historical drama film directed by Xie Junwei and Zou Jing. This thesis aims to explore the visual expression of traditional culture in the 3D animated film Chang'an as an example to reveal the reasons for the success of this type of film. The study analyses in detail the design of the character models and costumes, as well as the use of the traditional landscape painting technique of 'white space' in the composition of the screen from the visual aspect. Through the analysis of character design and screen composition, the thesis concludes that the success of Chang'an lies in its elaborate visual design and clever use of traditional culture, which makes it a 3D animation film with both artistic and commercial values. Finally, the thesis concludes that the production of a successful 3D animation film needs to combine the visual elements of 3D animation with traditional culture in order to win audience recognition and achieve commercial success.

  • I try to extract typological factors from the historically relevant works of animation, for that we can refer 'style.' creator's individuality, general tendencies and restraints of his time, the national properties work on them. It is the individual aspect that excels in the works of Jiri Trnka, Tim Burton, Yuri Norstein, so they stand out not only in their own specific sensibility, vision but also in the elucidation of themes and the technology of dealing medium. On the other hand the Walt Disney's animation has so distinctive characteristics that we could identify them. Disney's so-called classical model accomplished a typically American animation form as full of expressive visual language, over reaction, full animation describing detail action. We could tell, Miyajaki Hayao's Gibri Studio represents Japanese animation, which works on traditional motives of Japan and expresses unique humanity.

  • The 21st century is the age when a sensational image has more explanatory power and can deliver a more powerful message than a message consisting of logical thinking. Powerful visual images create a big impact on many people throughout the world, overcoming linguistic barriers and even replacing language as a means of communication. In the fashion field, the concept and power of visual images within the new multimedia of the 21st century are becoming increasingly important. In recent years, other than the above methods, videos, movies and animation features have been produced directly to enhance visual effects and attempts are increasing to use these new tools as communication methods. This study focuses on animation contents that have been used in the fashion industry to overcome prejudice of luxury international brands that feature images that emphasize value, quality and heritage. The purpose of this study is to focus on the specific character of fashion animation in order to overview the concept of 21st video fashion communication and to show how the collection concept that includes color and detail places an emphasis on visual images. Analysis of previous research, theoretical research through literature and case study on Prada fashion animation led to the following conclusion. The common features of two different Prada fashion animation show that both animation have the following features in common : realism, dramatic impact and convergence for expression methods, and creativeness, hybrid and a happy ending for contents. Beginning with this study, I believe that various angles of interest and concern about communication in the fashion world, which is a social and cultural phenomenon that changes rapidly, can be will be looked at and learned from.

  • The advancement of technology enables smart phones or handheld devices to render complex 3D graphics. However, the processing power and memory of smart phones remain very limited to render high polygon and details 3D models especially on games which requires animation, physic engine, or augmented reality. In this paper, several techniques will be introduced to speed up the computation and reducing the number of vertices of the 3D meshes without losing much detail.
