  • A kinematically admissible velocity field is developed for the analysis of twisting of extruded products. The twisting of extruded product is caused by the linearly increased rotational velocity from the center on the cross-section of the workpiece at the die exit. In the analysis, the rotational velocity in angular direction is assumed by the multiplication of radial distance and angular velocity. The angular velocity is zero at the die entrance and is increased linearly by longitudinal distance from die entrance. The increase rate of angular velocity is determined by the minimization of plastic work. The results of the analysis show that the angular velocity of the extruded product changes with the aspect ratio of product and increases with the decreases in die length and in eccentricity of gravity center of the cross-section of workpiece at die entrance from that of the cross-section at the die exit.

  • When a vehicle moves with a high rotation rate, it is not easy to measure the angular velocity using an off-the-shelf gyroscope. If the angular velocity is estimated using the extended Kalman filter in the gyro-free inertial navigation system, the effect of the accelerometer error and initial angular velocity error can be reduced. In this paper, in order to improve the navigation performance of the gyro-free inertial navigation system, an angular velocity estimation method is proposed based on an extended Kalman filter with an accelerometer random bias error model. In order to show the validity of the proposed estimation method, angular velocities and navigation outputs of a vehicle with 3 rev/s rotation rate are estimated. The results are compared with estimates by other methods such as the integration and an extended Kalman filter without an accelerometer random bias error model. The proposed method gives better estimation results than other methods.

  • Accurate tuning of parameter is very important in vector-controlled induction motor. Among the parameters of induction motor, detuning of rotor resistance used in controller design deteriorates drive performance. This paper presents a novel rotor resistance estimation strategy using slip angular velocity in vector-controlled induction motor drives. The slip angular velocity can be calculated by two methods. Firstly, it can be induced from the rotor voltage equation. Secondly, it can be induced from the difference between synchronous angular velocity and rotor angular velocity. The first method includes the rotor resistance, while the second method dose not include this parameter. From this fact, the rotor resistance can be identified by comparing the slip angular velocities in the two methods. In the tuned states of the rotor resistance, performances of flux estimator and speed drive are discussed. The simulation and experimental results are given to verify the validity of the proposed method in various situations.

  • The purpose of this study was to provide basic data for a form of gait by comparing and analyzing gait motions on different grades and speeds. In order to accomplish the purpose, 6 university students, whose ages between 20 - 25, were selected. They have gaited on 3Km/h, 4Km/h, 5Km/h of speed and 4 video cameras were used to film them. The speed of filming was 60 frame / seconds. The special variations of kinematics in gait were fixed with ankle joint angle, knee joint angle, hip joint angle, ankle angular velocity, knee angular velocity and hip angular velocity. In this study, the SPSS 10.0 for windows statistical package was used to operate on significant level of .05 for statistical management. From the result of this study, we have succeeded to obtain following conclusions; 1. As the speed increased, the value of ankle joint angle increased. Also the value of ankle joint angle was larger on decline than on incline. 2. As the speed increased, the value of knee joint angle was increased. 3. As the speed increased, the value of hip joint angle was decreased. 4. As the speed increased, the value of ankle angular velocity increased. And the value of ankle angular velocity became higher on decline than on incline. 5. The value of knee angular velocity showed higher on decline than on incline. 6. As the speed increased, the value of hip angular velocity was increased. Also the value of hip angular velocity became higher on incline than on decline.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the angular velocity of forearm pronation/supination movement in Parkinson's disease patients, as a quantitative measure of the bradykinesia. Thirteen Parkinson's disease patients ($64{\pm}11.0$ yrs, male:6, female:7) participated in the experiments. The subjects' both right and left forearms were scored by a rater according to rapid alternating movement of hands category in the UPDRS (unified Parkinson's disease rating scale) and the angular velocity of forearm pronation/supination was measured at the same time. As analysis parameters, RMS (root mean square) angular velocity and RMS angle were used. The parameters showed negative correlation with the clinical score (RMS angular velocity: r= - 0.914, RMS angle: r= -0.749). The RMS angular velocity of all clinical scales were significantly different one another except for the non significant difference between those of scale 3 and 4. RMS angle of scale 0 was significantly different from those of scale 2, 3, 4 and that of scale 1 was significantly different from those of scale 3 and 4. This suggests that RMS angular velocity can be used for a quantitative measure of bradykinesia in motor examination.

  • In this study, we consider Taylor-Couette flow with the outer cylinder at rest and the inner one oscillating with a mean angular velocity. Varying the mean angular velocity, amplitude and frequency of the oscillation, we investigate the characteristics of modulated Taylor vortices. At a constant mean angular velocity, Taylor vortices intensify as the amplitude increases and frequency decreases. The axial wavenumber is calculated by spectral analysis. When the frequency varies, the axial wavenumber does not change at a constant mean angular velocity and amplitude. But, the axial wavenumber increases, as the mean angular velocity increases.

  • The twisting and extrusion process of the product with trapezoidal helical fin from the round billet is developed by the upper bound analysis. The twisting of extruded product is caused by the twisted die surface connecting the die entrance section and the die exit section linearly. In the analysis, the rotational velocity in angular direction is assumed by the multiplication of radial distance and angular velocity. The angular velocity is increased linearly by axial distance from the die entrance. The increase rate of angular velocity is determined by the minimization of plastic work. The results of the analysis show that the angular velocity of the extruded product increases with the die twisting angle, the reduction of area, and decreases with the die length, the friction condition.

  • A homogeneous circular disk undergoing a contact force is considered to investigate the thermo-elastic characteristics, and the inquiry is based on the variations of outer surface temperature and angular velocity. The intensity of stresses grows with the increase of outer surface temperature, and the circumferential strain reacts more sensitively to the change of outer surface temperature than the radial strain. In general, higher angular velocity produces; (i) larger expansion in the radial direction, (ii) smaller displacement in the circumferential, (iii) diminished intensity in the stresses. It is demonstrated that outer surface temperature and angular velocity are critical factors in the determination of thermo-elastic characteristics of homogeneous circular disks subjecting to a contact force. The results obtained can be applied on the design of a homogeneous circular cutter to promote proper and reliable thermos-elastic characteristics in service by the proper operation of these parameters.

  • Creep damage is one of the mosl important characteristics for the stability of high temperature structures such as huge energy converting facilities. Creep failure of Type 316LN stainless steel is highly correlated to generation and growth of the voids. In this paper, in order to investigate the correlation of creep rupture time and ultrasonic parameters (group velocity, angular velocity), creep-damaged Type 316LN specimens and measurements for the ultrasonic parameters were made. However, bi-directional measurements were applied along the load direction and the perpendicular direction to the load line by means of the contact type probe of which the central frequencies are 10MHz, 15MHz and 20MHz. Analyzing the angular velocities of the ultrasonic signals obtained from the load direction, it was confirmed that the angular velocities were declined as the creep time passed when 15MHz and 20MHz probes were used. Also, the group velocities were declined for all three frequencies as the creep time increased. Thus, positive feasibility for the creep damage evaluation by means of the angular and group velocities was confirmed. Moreover, result of analysis for the ultrasonic signal which was obtained from the perpendicular direction upon the angular and group velocities indicated little variation for both of the angular and group velocities. Therefore, the creep damage is likely to represent anisotropic itself.

  • In this paper, we studied about the effects of the rotating cantilever pipe conveying fluid with a moving mass. The influences of a rotating angular velocity, the velocity of fluid flow and moving mass on the dynamic behavior of a cantilever pipe have been studied by the numerical method. The equation of motion is derived by using the Lagrange's equation. The cantilever pipe is modeled by the Euler-Bemoulli hew theory. When the velocity of a moving mass is constant, the lateral tip-displacement of a cantilever pipe is proportional to the moving mass and the angular velocity. In the steady state, the lateral tip-displacement of a cantilever pipe is more sensitive to the velocity of fluid than the angular velocity, and the axial deflection of a cantilever, pipe is more sensitive to the effect of a angular velocity.
