The side collision reconstruction algorithm is developed using three dimensional car crash analysis. Medium size passenger car is modeled for finite element analysis. Total 24 side collision configurations, four different speed and six different angle, are set up for making side collision database. Deformation index and degree index are built up for each collision case. Deformation index is a kind of deformation estimate averaging displacement of side door of crashed car from finite element analysis result. Angle index is constructed measuring deformed angle of crashing car. There are two kinds of angle index, one is measured at driver's side and the other is measured at passenger's side. Also a collision analysis information in side of cars is used for giving a basis for scientific and practical reason in a reconstruction of the car accident. The analysis program, LS-DYNA3D is utilized for finite element analysis program for a collision analysis. Those database are used for side collision reconstruction. Side collision reconstruction algorithm is developed, and applied to find the collision conditions before the accident occurs. Three example collision cases are tried to check the effectiveness of the algorithm. Deformation index and angle index is extracted for the case from the analysis result. Deformation index is compared to the established database, and estimated collision speed and angle are introduced by interpolation function. Angle index is used to select a specific collision condition from the several available conditions. The collision condition found by reconstruction algorithm shows good match with original condition within 10% error for speed and angle. As a result, the calculation from the reconstruction of the situation is reproducing the situation well. The performance in this study can be used in many ways for practical field using deformation index and degree index. Other different collision situations may be set up for extending the scope of this study in the future.
The purpose of this study was to investigate correlations among objective measurements of spasticity in patients with brain lesions. Thirty-two stroke and traumatic brain injury subjects participated in the study. Spasticity was quantified using the knee first flexion angle, relaxation index obtained from a pendulum drop test, and the amplitude of a knee tendon reflex test. Pearson's product correlation coefficient was used to examine relationships among these measurements of spasticity. There was a significant positive correlation between the relaxation index and knee first flexion angle in patients with brain lesions (r=.895, p<.01). There was also significant negative correlation between the amplitude of knee tendon reflex and relaxation index (r=-.612, p<.01), and between amplitude and knee first flexion angle (r=-.537, p<.01). Thus, it is possible to use the knee first flexion angle as an objective measure of spasticity, rather than relaxation index, which is more complicated to obtain. Further studies are needed to explore the effects of functional improvement and long-lasting carryover effects of spasticity using a simple objective measure such as the knee first flexion angle from a pendulum test.
Purpose : The purpose of this study was to analyze the coordination of the trunk tilting angle and bilateral lower limbs according to the stirrups length during trot in equestrian. Methods : Participants selected as subject were consisted of adult male(n=7, mean age: $45.00{\pm}3.78yrs$, mean height: $172.50{\pm}2.44cm$, mean body mass: $76.95{\pm}4.40kg$, mean, mean leg length: $97.30{\pm}2.60cm$). They were divided into 3-types of stirrups lengths(67 cm, 72 cm, 77 cm) during trot. The variables analyzed were consisted of the trunk front-rear angle, lower limb joint(Right Left hip, knee, ankle), overall movement index(OMI) of the lower limbs(thigh, shank, foot) and asymmetry index(AI%) during trot. Results : The average angle in hip and knee joint showed more extended posture according to the increase of stirrups lengths and ankle angle showed more plantarflexion posture according to increase of stirrups length during 1 stride in trot. Also, average angle showed more extended posture in right hip and ankle joint than that of left. The angle of knee joint didn't show significant difference statistically between right and left. Also asymmetric index in average angle of hip, knee and ankle joint didn't show significant difference statistically in between lower limbs, but hip joint showed higher asymmetric index in stirrup length of 77 cm and ankle joint showed higher asymmetric index in stirrup length of 67 cm than that of the others respectively. The FR angle in trunk of horse-rider showed relative backward leaning motions at stirrup length of 67 cm and 77 cm than that of stirrup length of 72 cm during stance and swing phase. OMI in thigh, shank, and foot limbs didn't show significant difference statistically according to the stirrups length of right and left lower limbs, but left lower limbs showed higher index than that of right lower limb. Stirrup length of 72 cm in shank and foot limbs showed higher index than that of stirrup length of 67 cm and 77 cm. But stirrup length of 72 cm showed higher asymmetric index than that of stirrups length of 67 cm and 77 cm. Conclusions : When considering the above, 72 cm(ratio of lower limb 74.04%) stirrup lengths could be useful in posture correction and stabilization than 67cm(ratio of lower limb 68.69%) and 77 cm(ratio of lower limb 79.18%) stirrup lengths during trot in horse back riding.
A critical angle method was used to measure the index of refraction of a solid medium when an air gap between the prism and the medium is present. The gap effect was analyzed both numerically and experimentally. Since the total internal reflection is severely disturbed by the large gap, determination of the critical angle and the resulting refractive index becomes ambiguous and inaccurate. By using an index matching fluid, we could determine the index of refraction with an uncertainty of ${\pm}2{\times}1^{-3}$ even when the gap is as large as 1 ${\mu}m$.
We investigated domains and conoscope under the polarizing microscope and the index of refraction on the c-plate GMO which has the ferroelectric and ferroelastic phase at room temperature. To observed the change of refractive index in connection with domain, we developed an apparatus to obtain the refractive index by measuring the Brewster's angle. The resolution of the minimum rotation angle of this apparatus is $0.001^{\circ}$. To obtain the refractive index map on the sample, the moving distance of XY stage loaded sample holder is 60 mm and the minimum moving distance is 0.002 mm. Also, To obtain the indicatrix for single crystal, vertical turntable with sample holder and XY stage was loading on horizontal turntable. The minimum resolution angle of this vertical turntable is $0.001^{\circ}$. We measured the refractive index of transparent materials such as ferroelectrics. In the case of $Gd_{2}(MoO_{4})_{3}$, the Brewster angle is $62.11^{\circ}$ and then, the refractive index is 1.8895 by using He-Ne Laser. Also the refractive distribution of c-plate GMO was obtained with $400{\mu}m{\times}120{\mu}m$.
The two groups each consisting of 28 people who had an adult hemiplegia due to a brain injury received two different methods of exercises to reduce the angle to which the affected lower limb rotates externally. The comparisons between the two groups were made for the changes of the angle in external rotations measured between pre and post test. The static balance index values taken during pre and post tests were also compared. In addition, the correlations of the angle to which the affected lower limb rotates externally with static balance index values were analyzed. The result were as follows: 1. A statistical analysis indicated that in group one having taken simple R.O.M exercises, the angle to which the affected lower limb rotates externally and the static balance index values were both significantly different between pre and post test (P<.01). 2. A statistical analysis indicated that in group two having taken a pattern movement, both the angle to which the affected lower limb rotates externally and static balance index values were significantly different between pre and post test (P<.01). 3. A significant difference between simple R.O.M exercises group and pattern movement exercises groupwas shown only for the angle to which affected limb rotates externally not for static balance index values (P<.01), 4. Pearson correlation coefficient for the angle to which the affected limb rotates externally with static balance index values was found to be significant only in pattern movement exercises group (P < .05).

To calibrate precision autocollimators, the Korean Research Institute of Standards and Science (KRISS) has built a small angle generator using a laser interferometer. The system is based on a sine bar mechanism in which the angle is determined from the ratio of two lengths. The rotational angle is measured by the angle interferometer and the heterodyne laser interferometer detects the relative displacement of two retro-reflectors attached to the rotating arm. The distance between the two retro-reflectors of the laser angle interferometer is self-calibrated by an index table positioned on the rotating arm. The resolution of the system is 0.002 seconds, and the accuracy is better than 0.04 seconds within a measuring range of $\pm$1 degree. The small angle generator can also be used with an index table that can divide one circle into 1440 angles. The combined system can generate any angle over 360 degrees to an accuracy of 0.11 seconds.
Objectives : This study was performed in order to investigate the relation of body composition analysis and radiological parameter(lumbosacral angle, lumbar lordortic angle, lumbar gravity line). Methods : This study was carried out with the data from comprehensive medical testing. 75 subject aged 20-59 performed the segmental bioelectrical impedance analysis, questionnaire. And lumbosacral angle, lumbar lordortic angle and lumbar gravity line were measured in the standing position x-ray. Then we analyzed the data. Results : Low back pain(LBP) prevalence in high obesity index(Body Mass Index(BMI), Percentage of Body Fat(PBF), Waist Hip Ratio(WHR)) group was higher than LBP prevalence in normal obesity index group(p<0.01). In LBP group, lumbosacral angle, lumbar lordortic angle were significantly lager than Non-LBP group(p<0.001). And 75% of LBP group indicated abnormal lumbar gravity line ratio(0.67 < Normal lumbar gravity line ratio <1.00). When it comes to analyze relation between obesity index and radiological parameter, no-significant change was seen. Conclusions : This study carried as following research after the study on relation of obesity, LBP and trunk muscle strength. Results from this investigation showed positive correlation between obesity and LBP prevalence. But obesity index didn't indicate significant correlation with structural changes of lumbar vertebrae. When considering prior research, trunk muscle strength changes were more related to LBP prevelence in obese people. This results are expected to explain causes of LBP in obese group.
A bimetallic chip made of gold and silver was investigated in intensity interrogation mode to confirm enhancement of the SPR sensor resolution. Both reflectance curves of the bimetallic chip and the conventional gold chip was acquired and compared. The line width of the reflectance curve of the bimetallic chip was narrower than that of the conventional Au chip, resulting in steeper tangential slope. The reflectance was monitored at the angle related to the steepest tangential slope. The change in reflectance of the bimetallic chip was larger than that of the Au chip. The critical angle was analyzed by differentiating the reflectance with respect to incident angle twice. Acquiring the critical angle regarding to the sample informs the refractive index of the sample. Using various concentration of Bovine Serum Albumin, we confirmed that refractive index was linearly related to variation of reflectance of the bimetallic chip.
