In Android platform, as applications invoke various service functions through IPC (Inter-Process Communication), IPC performance is critical to the responsiveness in Android. However, Android offers long IPC latency of hundreds of micro-seconds due to complicated software stacks between the kernel Binder and the user-level process Context Manager. This separation provides modularity and flexibility, but degrades the responsiveness of services owing to additional context switching and inefficient request handling. In this paper, we anatomize Android IPC mechanisms and observe that 55% of IPC latency comes from the communication overhead between Binder and Context Manager. Based on this observation, this paper proposes a kernel Binder cache that retains a popular subset of service function mappings, thereby reducing the requests transferred to the user-level daemon. The proposed Binder cache is implemented in Android 5.0 and experimental results with various benchmarks show that the proposed cache architecture improves performance by 52.9% on average.
Graphical user interface testing (GUI testing) techniques have been widely used to test the functionality of Android applications (apps) and to detect faults for verification of the reliability and usability of apps. To adequately test the behaviors of apps, a number of studies on model-based GUI testing techniques have been performed on Android apps. However, the effectiveness of model-based techniques greatly depends on the quality of the GUI model, because model-based GUI testing techniques generate test inputs based on this model. Therefore, in order to improve testing effectiveness in model-based techniques, accurate and efficient GUI model generation has to be achieved using an improved model generation technique with concrete definition of GUI states. For accurate and efficient generation of a GUI model and test inputs, this study suggests a hierarchical GUI state comparison technique and evaluates this technique through comparison with the existing model-based techniques, considering activities as GUI states. Our results show that the proposed technique outperforms existing approaches and has the potential to improve the performance of model-based GUI testing techniques for Android apps.

Recently as the number of smartphone user is growing rapidly, android is also getting more interest in digital forensic. However, there is not enough research on digital data acquisition and analysis based on android platform's unique characteristics so far. Android system stores all the related recent systemwide logs from the system components to applications in volatile memory, and therefore, the logs can potentially serve as important evidences. In this paper, we propose a digital data acquisition and analysis system for android which extracts meaningful information based on the correlation of android logs and user activities from a device at runtime. We also present an efficient search scheme to facilitate realtime analysis on site. Finally, we demonstrate how the proposed system can be used to reconstruct the sequence of user activities in a more intuitive manner, and show that the proposed search scheme can reduce overall search and analysis time approximately 10 times shorter than the normal regular search method.

Android that was made by Google and Open Handset Alliance is the open source software toolkit for mobile phone. In a few years, Android will be used by millions of Android mobile phones and other mobile devices, and become the main platform for application developers. In this paper, the integrated login application based on Google's Android platform is developed. The main features of the mobile combination login application content based on Android are as follows. First, the application has more convenient login functionality than the functionality of general web browser as the web browser of the mobile-based applications(web browser style applications) as well as security features and faster screen(view) capability by reducing the amount of data transfer. Second, the application is so useful for management of ID and Password, and it can easily manage multiple ID information such as message, mail, profile. The results of performance evaluation of the developed application show the functionality that can login many kinds of portal sites simultaneously as well as the ability that can maintain login continuously. Currently, we are trying to develope a couple of the technologies that can insert multiple accounts into one ID and check all information on one screen.

As the value and importance of softwares are growing up, software theft and piracy become a much larger problem. To tackle this problem, it is highly required to provide an accurate method for detecting software theft and piracy. Especially, while software theft is relatively easy in the case of Android applications (apps), screening illegal apps has not been properly performed in Android markets. In this paper, we propose a method to effectively measure the similarity between Android apps for detecting software theft at the executable file level. Our proposed method extracts method reference frequency and manifest information through static analysis of executable Android apps as the main features for similarity measurement. Each app is represented as an n-dimensional vectors with the features, and then cosine similarity is utilized as the similarity measure. We demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed method by evaluating its accuracy in comparison with typical source code-based similarity measurement methods. As a result of the experiments for the Android apps whose source file and executable file are available side by side, we found that our similarity degree measured at the executable file level is almost equivalent to the existing well-known similarity degree measured at the source file level.

In this paper, we propose a real-time remote logging model for development of android applications using LBS(Location based Service). The model has two major parts: Mobile Log Management Service and Remote Log Server. Mobile Log Management Service consists of the log collector and the remote log manager. The log collector is an aspect of AOP which can collect logs from the target application without modifications of source codes. The remote log manager has a background service component so that it can receive logs whenever the log collector captures logs from the target application. Remote Log Server communicates with Mobile Log Management Service by socket interface. Therefore, Remote Log Server can show logs in real-time. To validate the efficiency of the proposed model, we show a case study, and compare the model with other models.

A lot of applications are being developed as a result of popular smart machinery. Especially, Android OS that has high market share in smart phone market, applications are being developed and resulted. response time is delayed because service process of application do not work well although the space for using resource is enough. The purpose of this paper, analysis tool analyze response time of application to grope for an answer to the question about delayed response time of application.

Using AR technology, which has recently emerged as an innovative technology, AR mobile application for infants was planned. In the form of combining play and education, children's interest is aroused and access to education to various fields is increased. Unity 3D Engine and Vuforia SDK were mainly used to design Android-based mobile applications.
The various kinds of application is distributed for the Smart phone user recently. There is the advantage that the open source application on Android operating system based Smart phone supports a multi tasking service. Layar, Wikitude, and Sherpa and the other applications using the GPS location information like an a2b etc. were developed in the Smart phone environment. However, the existing Cell-ID based location information can be directly collected by the mobile ISP unit which the mobile carrier installs, the personal privacy problem occurs. Therefore, the personal location information is possible to be exposed publicly without any access control procedure. Therefore, in this research, the self-control mechanism on the GPS location information at the Smart phone is designed and presented. Through this, it is possible to develop diverse applications providing enhanced access control and GPS location management on the Android based Smart Phone.
As smartphone users have increased in recent years, various applications have been developed and used especially for Android-based mobile devices. However, malicious applications developed by attackers for malicious purposes are also distributed through 3rd party open markets, and damage such as leakage of personal information or financial information of users in mobile terminals is continuously increasing. Therefore, to prevent this, a method is needed to distinguish malicious apps from normal apps for Android-based mobile terminal users. In this paper, we analyze the existing researches that detect malicious apps by extracting the system call events that occur when the app is executed. Based on this, we propose a technique to identify malicious apps by analyzing the sequence similarity of kernel layer events occurring in the process of running an app on commercial Android mobile devices.
