  • Sea anchor for fishery is commonly used in jigging fishery and purse seine. The study of sea anchor was studied for improvement of opening efficiency and drag by changing the type of shape and the diameter of vent. However, standard specification of sea anchor is not set and has not been studied for underwater stability. Therefore, this study aimed to improve underwater stability of sea anchor by changing a vent diameter and weight of sinker. The experiment was conducted in flume water tank. The experiment model of sea anchor was made from actual model of sea anchor which is used in fishery by similarity law. The model of sea anchor was designed to different types of vent diameter and weight of sinker in different current speed. The value of movement of side to side (X-axis), drag of sea anchor (Y-axis) and movement of up and down (Z-axis) was measured for 30 seconds. Each value of X, Y, Z-axis was analyzed through t-test and ANOVA analysis to verify that each value had a significant difference according to the difference compositions. There was correlation between the movement of X-axis and Z-axis. The drag of sea anchor was stronger as the current speed increased. However, the larger the vent diameter, the weaker the drag. From the result of the standard deviation, the movement of X-axis was inversely proportional to the vent diameter. However, movement of Z-axis was larger as the weight of sinker was the heaviest or lightest from the result of the standard deviation. These results suggest that the sea anchor should be combined with proper size of the vent diameter and the weight of sinker to improve the stability.

  • The embedded suction anchor(ESA) is and anchor that is driven by a suction pile. The cross-sectional shape of the ESA anchor is circle. Its diameter is the same as that of the suction pile that is used to drive it into the seafloor. For the installation, the anchor is attached to the tip of the suction pile and then driven as a unit with the pile by and applied suction pressure. Once the ESA anchor reaches the desired depth, the pile is retrieved by applying a positive pressure. Finally, only the ESA anchor remains in the soil layer. This paper presents the results of centrifuge model tests to investigate ESA pullout capacity. The main parameters that have effects on the pullout capacity of ESA may include g-level, embedded depth, direction of loading, and loading point. The results of tests show that the pullout loading capacities increase as the loading point shift toward the tip of the anchors for a given loading direction. They also indicate that the loading point associated with the maximum pullout loading capacity is located at approximately 67 percent of the anchor length from the top for the horizontal load.

  • The numerical analysis is carried out to identify the influence of design factors to shear capacity of cast-in-place (CIP) anchor in ACI 349 Code that is available for the design of fastening system at Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) in this study. The MASA program is used to develop the numerical analysis model and the developed numerical analysis model is verified on a basis of the various test data of CIP anchor. Both $l/d_o$ and $c_1/l$ we considered as design factors. As a result, the variation of $l/d_o$ has no influence on the shear capacity of CIP anchor but $c_1/l$ has a large influence on the shear capacity of CIP anchor, Therefore, it is proved that ACI 349 Code may give a non-conservative results compared with real shear capacity of CIP anchor according to $c_1/l$.

  • Uplift response of rectangular anchor plates has been investigated in physical model tests and numerical simulation using Plaxis. The behavior of rectangular plates during uplift test was studied by experimental data and finite element analyses in cohesionless soil. Validation of the analysis model was also carried out with 200 mm and 300 mm diameter of rectangular plates in sand. Agreement between the uplift responses from the physical model tests and finite element modeling using PLAXIS 2D, based on 200 mm and 300 mm computed maximum displacements were excellent for rectangular anchor plates. Numerical analysis using rectangular anchor plates was conducted based on hardening soil model (HSM). The research has showed that the finite element results gives higher than the experimental findings in dense and loose packing of cohesionless soil.

  • As larger the commercial vessel is, and rougher the marine environment becomes nowadays, drag embedment type anchor (DEA) of more stable performance and higher holding power is requested to be applied on the vessel. But, the performance of DEA has not become well known to academy and industries so far, that the basic study of DEA performance and holding force for the development of new DEA of higher performance is insufficient that required. In this paper, three types of same holding category DEA model (HALL, AC-14, POOL-N, scale 1/10), which are generally applied on the commercial vessel nowadays, were tested by being horizontally dragged on the test tank, on which sand was being floored with sufficient depth, and measured the holding force of each anchor simultaneously using load cell and D/A converter. With the test results, the embedding motion was analyzed to have three different stages and the holding force of each anchor was analyzed with respect to the anchor geometry, such as shape and weight of each type of anchors, and final embedding depth.

  • Numerical analysis is carried out to identify the appropriateness of the design codes that is available for the tensile design of fastening system at Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) in this study. This study is intended for the cast-in-place anchor that is widely used for the fastening of equipment in Korean NPPs. The microplane model and the elastic-perfectly plastic model are employed for the quasi-brittle material like concrete and for the ductile material like anchor bolt as constitutive model for numerical analysis and smeared crack model is employed to simulate the clack and damage phenomena. The developed numerical model is verified on a basis of the various test data of cast-in-place anchor. The appropriateness of both ACI 349 Code and CEB-FIP Code is evaluated for the tensile design of cast-in-place anchor and it is proved that both design codes give a conservative results for real tensile capacity of cast-in-place anchor.

  • We propose an efficient internetworking model for fast handover between UMTS and WLAN networks. Mobility anchor (MA) is provided at the boundary between GGSN and PDG, under the 3GPP-proposed internetworking reference model. Such MA can enable authentication and session initialization before L2 handover of the mobile terminal, so that seamless and fast vertical handover could be possible.

  • Steel storage racks are slender structures whose overall behavior and the capacity depend largely on the flexural behavior of the base-plate to upright connections and on the behavior of beam-to-column connections. The base-plate upright connection assembly details, anchor bolt position in particular, associated with the high-rise steel storage racks differ from those of normal height steel storage racks. Since flexural behavior of high-rise rack base connection is hitherto unavailable, this investigation experimentally establishes the flexural behavior of base-plate upright connections of high-rise steel storage racks. This investigation used an enhanced test setup and considered nine groups of three identical tests to investigate the influence of factors such as axial load, base plate thickness, anchor bolt size, bracket length, and upright thickness. The test observations show that the base-plate assembly may significantly influence the overall behavior of such connections. A rigid plate analytical model and an elastic plate analytical model for the overall rotations stiffness of base-plate upright connections with concentric anchor bolts were constructed, and were found to give better predictions of the initial stiffness of such connections. Analytical model based parametric studies highlight and quantify the interplay of components and provide a means for efficient maximization of overall rotational stiffness of concentrically anchor bolted high-rise rack base-plate upright connections.

  • Anchor channels are commonly used for façade, tunnel, and structural connections. These connections encounter various types of loadings during their service life, including high rate or impact loading. For anchor channels that are placed close and parallel to an edge and loaded in shear perpendicular to and towards the edge, the failure is often governed by concrete edge breakout. This study investigates the transverse shear behavior of the anchor channels under quasi-static and high rate loadings using a numerical approach (3D finite element analysis) utilizing a rate-sensitive microplane model for concrete as constitutive law. Following the validation of the numerical model against a test performed under quasi-static loading, the rate-sensitive static, and rate-sensitive dynamic analyses are performed for various displacement loading rates varying from moderately high to impact. The increment in resistance due to the high loading rate is evaluated using the dynamic increase factor (DIF). Furthermore, it is shown that the failure mode of the anchor channel changes from global concrete edge failure to local concrete crushing due to the activation of structural inertia at high displacement loading rates. The research outcomes could be valuable for application in various types of connection systems where a high rate of loading is expected.

  • In this study we proposed a simplified finite element model of anchor bolt system inserted through concrete structures considering clamping forces. The three different finite element types using LS-DYNA are applied for numerical efficiency of the anchor bolt modeling. Combined beam and solid elements are used to reflect the tension state at internal part of anchor bolt due to torques. The clamping forces due to torques are considered by introducing a compression for a nut plane modeled by beam elements. The numerical examples show good agreement with different element types. Parametric studies are focused on the various effects of different element types on the induced axial and shear forces of anchor bolts considering clamping forces.
