Direct analysis in real time mass spectrometry (DART-MS) is one of the variants of ambient mass spectrometry. The ionization process of DART-MS is in open environment and only takes few seconds, so it is suitable for fast analysis. Actually, since its introduction in 2005, more and more attentions have been drawn to its various applications due to its excellent properties, e.g., fast analysis, and no or less sample preparation, high salt tolerance and so on. This review summarized the promising features of DART-MS, including its ionization mechanism, equipment modification, wide applications, coupling techniques and extraction strategies before analysis.

When a circuit breaker is opened, a large capacitance around the buses, the circuit breaker and the potential transformer (PT) might cause PT ferroresonance. During PT ferroresonance, the iron core repeats saturation and unsaturation even though the supplied voltage is a rated voltage. This paper describes an analytical analysis of PT ferroresonance in the transient-state. To analyze ferroresonance analytically, the iron core is modelled by a simplified two-segment core model in this paper. Thus, a nonlinear ordinary differential equation (ODE) for the flux linkage is changed into a linear ODE with constant coefficients, which enables an analytical analysis. In this simplified model, each state, which is either saturated or unsaturated state, corresponds to one of the three modes, i.e. overdamping, critical damping and underdamping. The flux linkage and the voltage in each state are obtained analytically by solving the linear ODE with constant coefficients. The proposed transient analysis is effective in the more understanding of ferroresonance and thus can be used to design a ferroresonance prevention or suppression circuit of a PT.
Attempts were made to analyze the behavior of single and multiple-bolted connections through theoretical methods such as European yield theory, empirical approaching method, and semi-rigid theory instead of many experimental methods that have been actually inefficient and non-economical. In the case of a single-bolted connection, if accurate characteristic values of a material could be guaranteed, it would be more convenient and economical to perform the behavior analysis using a model based on the semi-rigid theory, instead of the existing complex yield model, or the empirical formula which produces errors, giving different results from the actual ones. If the variables of equation determining the load and deformation could be appropriately controlled, the analytical method in conjunction with a semi-rigid theory could be effectively applied to obtain the desirably predicted value, considering that the appropriate solution could be derived through a simpler equation using a less difficult method compared to the existing yield model. It is concluded that analytical method with semi-rigid theory can be used in the behavior analysis of bolted connection because our developed method showed excellent analysis ability of behavior until number of bolt is two. Although our analytical method has the disadvantage that the number of bolt is limited to two, it is concluded that it has the advantage than numerical method which complicated and time-consuming.

It is well known that the accurate calculation of the field distribution is essential for the design of electrical machines. The analytical techniques for electromagnetic field can quickly and exactly determine airgap magnetic field distribution in electrical machines. Many analytical techniques have been investigated to predict the magnetic field distribution in PM machines equipped with permanent magnets. Using the analytical technique by transfer relations, D. L. Trumper and K. R. Davey already presented the design and analysis of linear permanent-magnet machines and induction machines, respectively. Using the transfer relations (Melcher's general methodology) to describe electromagnetic phenomena, this paper deals with the analysis on the magnetic field distribution due to PM and winding current, the induced voltage and the static torque characteristics in surface-mounted slotless type permanent magnet machine. The validity of the analysis results is confirmed by finite element (FE) analysis.

In this paper, we proposed a new mehtod to analyze the performance degradation by timing jitters in the APD (avalanche photodiode) receivers of intensity modulation/direct detection digital optical communication systems where raised cosine pulse-shaping filters are used to reduce the effect of noise while minimizing intersymbol interferences. The proposed analytical method is an extension of an analytical method we have already developed for pin diode receivers, and incorporates the effects of APD's multiplication factor and resulting shot noise. Using the proposed analytical method, we derive an approximated power penalty due to timing jitters based on an assumption of Gaussian distribution for timing jitters, and compare with that of the conventional analytical method. The results obtained from the proposed analytical method show that conventional analytical methods underestimate the influence of timing jitters on the reciver performance. The results also show that APD's multiplication factor which optimizes receiver sensitivity is smaller than that obtained by the conventional analytical method.
This paper deals with analytical prediction for electromagnetic characteristics of a tubular linear actuator with Halbach array using transfer relations, namely, Melcher's methodology. Using transfer relations derived in terms of magnetic vector potential and a two-dimensional (2-d) cylindrical coordinate system, this paper derives analytical solutions for magnetic vector potential due to permanent magnets (PMs) and stator winding currents. On the basis of these analytical solutions, this paper also achieves analytical solutions for the magnetic fields distribution produced by PMs, stator windings current and axial thrust. The analytical results are validated extensively by finite element (FE) analyses. In particular, test results such as thrust measurements are given to confirm the analysis. Finally, this paper estimates control parameters using analytical solutions and test results such as thrust, back-emf, inductance and resistance measurements.

The beat distribution property of the King Seong-deok Divine Bell is investigated by experiment and analysis. The beat map method is proposed to explain the beat distribution property on the circumference of the bell. For the analytical investigation, an analytical model of the vibration beat is derived on a slightly asymmetric shell of revolution by using the modal expansion method. In the analytical method, the beat map can be drawn only if the modal parameters of the bell are obtained. The analytical beat model is applied to draw the beat map of the King Seong-deok Divine Bell. The validity of the analytical method is verified by comparing the analytical beat maps with the experimental results. This paper proposes a visualization method of the beat and theoretically identifies the reason why the clear and unclear beats repeat periodically along the circumference of the bell and how the striking position influences the beat distribution property.

New PVC plasticizer, 2,2,4-trimethyl-1,3-pentanediol-1-butyrate-3-isobutyrate was synthesized via simple esterification with butyric acid and Texanol(a trademark of Eastman Chemicals), the mixture of 2,2,4-trimethyl-1,3-pentanediol-3-isobutyrate and 2,2,4-trimethyl-1,3-pentanediol-1-isobutyrate. The analysis of $^1H-1D,\;^{13}C-1D$ NMR and HMBC spectra identified internal-ester-transfer of 2,2,4-trimethyl-1,3-pentanediol-1-isobutyrate during the reaction. 2,2,4-trimethyl-1,3-pentanediol-1-butyrate-3-isobutyrate gave better properties in PVC than 2,2,4-trimethyl-1,3-pentanediol diisobutyrate(TXIB, a trademark of Eastman Chemicals) such as lower viscosity, higher tensile strength and better elongation. In particular, remarkably reduced migration compared with TXIB suggested a reduced emission of VOC(volatile organic compound) from PVC.
This paper presents the analytical modeling and finite element (FE) analysis, using ABAQUS software, of the new types of steel reinforced lightweight aggregate concrete (SRLAC) columns with cross-shaped (+shaped and X-shaped) steel section, using proposed three analytical and two FE models in total. The stress-strain material models for different components in the columns, including the confined zones of the lightweight aggregate concrete (LWAC) using three and four concrete zones divisions approaches and with and without taking into account the stirrups reaction effect, are established first. The analytical models for determining the axial load-deformation behavior of the SRLAC columns are drawn based on the materials models. The analytical and FE models' results are compared with previously reported test results of the axially loaded SRLAC columns. The proposed analytical and FE models accurately predict the axial behavior and capacities of the new types of SRLAC columns with acceptable agreements for the load-displacement curves. The LWAC strength, steel section ratio, and steel section configuration affect the contact stress between the concrete and steel sections. The average ratios of the ultimate test load to the three analytical models and FEA model loads, Put /Pa1, Put /Pa2, Put /Pa3, and Put /PFE1, for the tested specimens are 0.96, 1.004, 1.016, and 1.019, respectively. Finally, the analytical parametric studies are also studied, in terms of the effects of confinement, LWAC strength, steel section ratio, and the reinforcement ratio on the axial capacity of the SRLAC column. When concrete strength, confinements, area of steel sections, or reinforcement bars ratio increased, the axial capacities increased.

In recent years the interest in online monitoring of lightweight structures with ultrasonic guided waves is steadily growing. Especially the aircraft industry is a driving force in the development of structural health monitoring (SHM) systems. In order to optimally design SHM systems powerful and efficient numerical simulation tools to predict the behaviour of ultrasonic elastic waves in thin-walled structures are required. It has been shown that in real industrial applications, such as airplane wings or fuselages, conventional linear and quadratic pure displacement finite elements commonly used to model ultrasonic elastic waves quickly reach their limits. The required mesh density, to obtain good quality solutions, results in enormous computational costs when solving the wave propagation problem in the time domain. To resolve this problem different possibilities are available. Analytical methods and higher order finite element method approaches (HO-FEM), like p-FEM, spectral elements, spectral analysis and isogeometric analysis, are among them. Although analytical approaches offer fast and accurate results, they are limited to rather simple geometries. On the other hand, the application of higher order finite element schemes is a computationally demanding task. The drawbacks of both methods can be circumvented if regions of complex geometry are modelled using a HO-FEM approach while the response of the remaining structure is computed utilizing an analytical approach. The objective of the paper is to present an efficient method to couple different HO-FEM schemes with an analytical description of an undisturbed region. Using this hybrid formulation the numerical effort can be drastically reduced. The functionality of the proposed scheme is demonstrated by studying the propagation of ultrasonic guided waves in plates, excited by a piezoelectric patch actuator. The actuator is modelled utilizing higher order coupled field finite elements, whereas the homogenous, isotropic plate is described analytically. The results of this "semi-analytical" approach highlight the opportunities to reduce the numerical effort if closed-form solutions are partially available.
