  • High speed milling(HSM) is one of the emerging cutting process having tremendous potential not only in increased metal removal rates but also in improved surface finish, burr free edge, dimensional accuracy and a virtually stress free component after machining. The High efficiency and accuracy in machining of die/mold materials can be obtained in high speed machining, so it is necessary to analytic the mechanism of high speed cutting process : cutting force, acoustic emission signal.

  • The aim of this study is to analyze the hydrodynamic properties of a 2D floating body with moon pool using a 2D fully nonlinear Numerical Wave Tank(NWT). This NWT was developed based on the Boundary Element Method(BEM) with potential theory and fully nonlinear free surface boundary conditions. Free surface elevations in the moon pool were calculated in the time domain for various frequencies of forced body motions. The added-mass and damping coefficients of the heaving body were also obtained. The present numerical results were compared with the analytic and experimental results and their accuracy was verified.

  • A series of numerical simulation has been carried out to study thermo-hydraulic characteristics of a primary surface type heat exchanger, which is designed for the evaporator and condenser of a geothermal ORC. Working fluid is geothermal water at hot side and R-245fa, which is a refrigerant designed for ORC, at cold side. Amplitude ratio of the channel and Reynolds number are considered as design parameters. Nusselt number is presented for the Reynolds number ranging from 50 to 150 and compared to analytic solutions. The result shows that higher amplitude ratio channel gives better heat transfer performance within the range of investigation.

  • In this paper, the sensitivity analysis was examined about the main factors that compose an air-conditioning system with slab thermal storage by using the analytic solution. Those factors are the insulation performance of floor slab surface, the slab thickness, the heat capacity of floor slab, the air change rate, and the insulation performance of the wall. The slab thickness and heat capacity of floor slab that minimize heating loads was gained by sensitivity analysis. It is became clear that the insulation performance of slab surface, high airtightness and high heat insulation are important design factors in air conditioning system with slab thermal storage.

  • Earth's magnetopause separating the fast and often turbulent magnetosheath and the relatively stagnant magnetosphere provides various forms of free energy that generate low-frequency surface waves. The source mechanism of this energy includes current-driven kinetic physical processes such as magnetic reconnection on the dayside magnetopause and flux transfer events drifting along the magnetopause, and velocity shear-driven (Kelvin-Helmholtz instability) or density/pressure gradient-driven (Rayleigh-Taylor instability) magnetohydro-dynamics (MHD) instabilities. The solar wind external perturbations (impulsive transient pressure pulses or quasi-periodic dynamic pressure variations) act as seed fluctuations for the magnetopause waves and trigger ULF pulsations inside the magnetosphere via global modes or mode conversion at the magnetopause. The magnetopause waves thus play an important role in the solar wind-magnetosphere coupling, which is the key to space weather. This paper presents recent findings regarding the generation of surface waves (e.g., Kelvin-Helmholtz waves) at the Earth's magnetopause and analytic and observational studies accountable for the linking of the magnetopause waves and inner magnetospheric ULF pulsations, and the impacts of magnetopause waves on the dynamics of the magnetopause and on the inner magnetosphere.

  • Tubular coils are widely used in various electromagnetic applications. For the purpose to obtain the mechanical output power, one of the two sets of coil arrays, called drive, is generally fixed while the other, called sleeve or projectile, is not fixed and easy to move. Among the three force components acting on the coil arrays, the radial one used to affect as a stress on the surfiace of the sleeve, or a restoring force if it is off-centered. The system under transient state or intended pulsed input power is likely to have the worst condition in mechanical stress, and it is necessary to design the mechanical strength of the sleeve within the permanent deformation limit. This paper is focused on the presentation of analytic expressions for the stress on surface of the sleeve.

  • This present study analyzed temperature depreciation ratio of window inside surface by KS F 2295 'Procedure for determining fenestration product condensation resistance values'. it estimated window indoor surface condensation due to variable environmental condition. Performance of condensation resistance by using temperature depreciation ratio until applied Low-e and Ar glazing improved about 45% from 24 mm clear. Temperature depreciation ratio by KS F 2295 considers analytic index of window condensation due to variable boundary condition.

  • Damping systems have been widely used to various industrial structures and are mainly hydraulic and pneumatic devices nowadays. In this work, a novel damping system based on the colloidal suspension in the field of nanotechnology is investigated. The colloidal suspension consists of Iyophobic working fluid and hydrophobic-coated porous particle. The mechanism of mechanical energy dissipation in damping system based on the colloidal suspension with nano-porous particles is different from that of the existing hydraulic damping system. The absorbed energy of the damping system using colloidal suspension can be calculated through the mechanical equilibrium condition by the superficial tensions of liquid-gas Interface in the hydrophobic surface in nano-porous particles. The results from an analytic approach have a reasonable agreement with experimental results.

  • Three dimensional finite difference elastic wave model was developed to estimate the feasibility of surface wave applications in geotechnical problems. The wave motions calculated by the developed program in this study shows good agreement with well known analytic solutions. The surface wave motions calculated from layered dam type structure can be interpreted as a infinite layer structure using dispersion curve but it is need a special source of which high energy in frequency band lower than 10 Hz to get information of physical properties in few tens meter deep. The source which has high energy in the low frequency band, however, can give defect on dam and this will make some limitation in real field applications. The dispersion curves calculated from the surface wave motion of homogeneous and center core type dam models will give rise to fatal errors if the conventional infinite layer structure used in their interpretation because the surrounding materials and boundaries of dam make some distortion in dispersion curve of surface wave. So it is strongly recommended to use three dimensional inversion model for correct interpretation and estimation of physical properties of dam materials.

  • Two-dimensional nonlinear free-surface wave problems are analyzed with consideration of viscosity. Navier-Stokes equation and continuity equation are solved by the application of Finite Analytic Method, and MAC scheme is used far the treatment of free surface. Surface tension effect is also considered and laminar flow is assumed. The free-surface waves in shallow water, the flows around a vortex-pair with free surface and the wave ahead of a rectangular body are simulated to test the present numerical scheme. In the shallow water problem, viscous effect due to the friction on the bottom is observed. In the second problem, the approach of a vortex-pair to the free surface is simulated to examine the interaction of vortex-pair with the free surface. In the third problem, the wave ahead of a semi-infinite floating body is simulated.
