The objective of this project is to improve the environment of the estuary dike on the Youngsan-River through Re-landscaping. An estuary dike of the Youngsan-River, the largest in the Orient, was constructed in 1981 and connects Mokpo City and Youngam-Gun province. Twenty years ago, when this dike was completed, this place was one of the famous tourist attractions of Korea. It symbolized the development and growth of Korea. But this dike at present is only a dreary sight as a huge concrete construction element. Therefore, a wall painting on the estuary dike was planned to improve this image. The site, an estuary dike of the Youngsan-River, is located in Mokpo City and its length is about 1,360m. The planning focus of this re-landscaping, which is a proposed improvement design through the analysis of characteristics and problems in conventional facilities, is as follows: (1) Introduction of a wall painting that is a symbol of the sea and river (by the creation of an illusion), (2) Production of the wall painting which is under consideration to create a friendly atmosphere of the circumference view and (3) Preparation of a design to establish an approach to the waterfront. By following these steps, an estuary dike can function as a tourist attractions and can be transformed in to cultural space for civilian. This project is good example of environment design that is completed with the regional residents participation through community input in the planning and initiation of a wall painting. The concept of environment design which involves the residents participation and re-landscaping in Korea has not been established up to now on. However, as this projects has proven, consideration for regional residents is a very important factor for the administrative office and planing specialist to address. In the future, it will have a direct influence on the development of design planning. If the establishment of space that can be accepted by residents with love, affection and self-confidence is possible, environment design in which residents participate actively, can be realized.
Neuroblastoma, a pediatric malignant neoplasm of neural crest origin, has a wide range of clinical virulence. The mechanisms contributing to the development of neuroblastomas are largely unclear, but non-random chromosomal changes identified over the past years suggest the involvement of genetic alterations. Amplification of the human N-myc proto-oncogene is frequently seen either in extrachromosomal double minutes or in homogeneously staining regions (HSRs) of aggressively growing neuroblastomas. N-myc maps to chromosome 2 band 24, but HSR have never been observed at this band, suggesting transposition of N-myc during amplification. We have constructed and analyzed the region-specific painting probe for HSR in neuroblastoma IMR-32 to determine the derivative chromosomes. Microdissection was performed on HSR using an inverted microscope with the help of microglass needles and an micromanipulator. We pretreated the microdissected fragments with Topoisomerase I which catalyzes the relaxation of supercolled DNA, and performed two initial rounds of DNA synthesis with T7 DNA polymerase followed by conventional PCR to enable the reliable preparation of Fluorescent in situ hybridization probe from a single microdissected chromosome. With this method, it was possible to construct the region-specific painting probe for HSR. The probe hybridized specifically to the HSRs of IMR-32, and to 2p24, 2p13 of normal chromosome. Our results suggest there was coamplification of N-myc together with DNA of the chromosome 2p24 and 2p13. Moreover, the fluorescent signals for the amplified chromosomal regions in IMR-32 cells were also easily recognized at a Thus this painting probe can be applied to detect the similar amplification of N-myc in neuroblastoma tissue, and the probe pool for HSR may be used to identify the cancer-relevant genes.
This study aims at identifying wall painting production technique of Songsanri No. 6 tomb based on optical examination and scientific analysis along with the investigation of written records of ancient wall paintings. The result displays that bricks with mortar were used for the construction of the wall, and masonry joint were made of lime, sand and gypsum. The surface of brick were plastered with black and thereafter with white lime. Finely sifted clay on the top of the white surface, were applied not with plasterer's trowel but with a brush for making ground surface. The clay are mineral particles smaller than $30{\mu}m$ of silt. The wall paintings of Sonsanri No. 6 is the only example of making ground layer with clay for painting of Sasindo (literally four heavenly animals painting) among remaining wall paintings of ancient tombs. The historical value of the painting should be attributed not only in terms that it displays a rare production techniques which were never discovered in any other paintings in Korea and Asia, but also it might had been uncompleted when the tomb were closed, even though it considers the fact that the wall painting were discovered in damaged condition in 1933.

The purpose of this study is to apply the characteristics of David Hockney's paintings to fashion illustration and thereby, review how pure art can be harmoniously grafted onto fashion commodities and thereupon, suggest a far more developed and unique fashion illustration. For the research, this study analyzed David Hockney's late painting works, after the 1980s; the analysis was focused on photo collages, multiple perspectives, the movement of the viewpoint, and lights and colors. In order to produce an artwork, the researcher selected 4 painting works; one work for decade for the period from the 1980s to the 2010s. This study selected 'shoes' as subjects for expression in an effort to depart from the convention approach of focusing on apparel and thereby, suggest some differentiated fashion illustrations. In terms of the artwork production size, four canvases #5 were combined into a set, and thus, a total of four sets were developed. The results are as follows. First, it was very interesting to develop a fashion illustration making use of David Hockney's paintings, and it was proven that the fashion illustration applying the sensitivity of the pure art would provide a unique sense of art. Secondly, as the boundary among disciplines becomes blurred, painting provides a new source of insights and motifs to the diverse design areas to satisfy diversified human needs, and furthermore, the development and diversified application of the fashion illustrations could be confirmed. Thirdly, David Hockney's differentiated world of art, technique of expression and sensitive colors could well be applied to fashion illustrations. This study proves that we fashion artists can depart from the conventional expressions focused on the apparel to expand the fashion illustration into lady's high heels.
The purpose of this study is to propose a solution for Goguryeo costume and its materials, colors, patterns, and accessories, which have not been dealt with in precedent studies and were treated as irrelevant subjects. The specific object of reconstruction with identification from the historical viewpoint is noble woman's costume(Yu and Gun) on the mural paintings of Jang-Cheon No.1 tomb in Jip-An province. As above, the reconstruction process of Yu(Jacket) and Gun(Skirt) worn by noble woman as depicted on the mural painting of the Baek-Hee-Gi-Ak-Do(百戱伎樂圖) in Jang-Cheon No.1 ancient tomb is suggested in this study. The most important issue for consideration was how to represent and exhibit it so that it resembles the mural painting as closely as possible. And the problems that arose at the time were the ratio and silhouette, which revealed disparities between the one on the mural painting and the costumes reproduced with identification from a historical viewpoint. The most difficult aspect of this work was due to the fact that the actual mural paintings were not available for verification. Therefore accuracy on details such as structure, materials, colors, patterns and accessory were difficult to obtain. So a further analysis of patterns, silhouettes, materials and colors are required for the precise representation of costume and dress on the mural painting.
This study is to find out how organic solvent will be propagated from painting inside the steel box girder of bridge. $2.9m{\times}3.0m$ of inside size of steel box girder is not suitable for painters to do his work comfortably and hygienically. Substance density(ppm)inside the space of the box unsatisfactory hygienical condition. Most of organic solvent(mainly toluene) came down to 0.5m in two minutes and 53sec. But personal protection for painter should be properly kept against flying this heavy organic solvent. longitudinally 27.1m in length is a cell unit of the whole length of bridge. Model XP-3l6A made in Japan is a main instrumentation adjusted to sense organic solvent especially toluene which can be measured up to 10,000ppm. Scenario analysis by computer program, safer release 2.0 has been performed first to estimate how the organic solvent will be propagated. And then actual test was done as a model. This has been measured for approximately five(5) minutes, with 30 sec interval. Actual measurement results showed much higher $10{\sim}20%$ than result analyzed by the computer program, meaning that this painting work can give worse effect to the worker who is painting inside the box girder of the bridge. The first meas urement level over the floor set up at 30cm height from the floor, because organic solvent was estimated to stay at the level. and then, they were measured at 1.0m, 1.5m level respectively, more.
The elements of the pigments used on the wall painting in Ssangyeongchong (Tomb of Two Pillars) from Goguryeo in the Nampo area of Pyeongyang were analyzed to confirm their mineral compositions and features of the painting. Specifically, the non-destructive X-ray fluorescence spectrometer (XRF) was used. On the other hand, the mineral composition of the background and pigment layers were analyzed using an X-ray diffractometer (XRD). The results of these analyses suggested that the lips of the characters in the painting were painted with HgS, and their faces, painted with HgS(Cinnabar/ vermilion) mixed with CaCO3. Note that lead white pigment [2PbCO3·Pb(OH)2] was found only on the bottom layer of the painting, indicating that the wall painting was likely to have been created using the Secco method.
This study analyzes the , one of the three panels of 《Welcoming Banquets for the Governor of Pyeong-an》, a documentary painting of the late Joseon Dynasty, with the aim to identify the coloring materials used in the painting. The painting was first imaged at each wavelength in order to minimize the potential problems in the process of analyzing specific parts. This study applied X-rays to identify ink, gold, and organic and inorganic pigments and used infrared rays to find ink and copper-based pigments. It also applied hyperspectral imaging to distinguish organic pigments from black, blue, and green materials. It also analyzed spots selected for each color to identify the following materials: white lead (white), ink/indigo (black), a combination of red lead and cinnabar (red), pink dye, purple dye, iron oxides (brown), orpiment/dye (yellow), malachite/malachite and yellow dye/indigo (green), azurite/white lead and indigo/indigo (blue), indigo and cochineal (violet), and gold leaf (gold). It is expected that more efficient analysis will be made possible by securing a sufficient library for each wavelength.

Sumi-e is one of the art work that uses not only ink line but also color painting. This technique is well known as a representative Asian painting style and widely used in movie, advertisement poster and various effect in camera device. In this paper, we propose an algorithm that can generate result image with Sumi-e effects of example image based on computer graphics and image processing techniques. For this, we pass two steps. The first is painting expression step. We used texture transfer technique to generate result with texture effect of reference image by analyzing numerically. The second step is ink-painting effect generation step. We express ink-painting effect in outline by considering intensity variation in edge of example image. Our algorithm can express various Sumi-e style based on selected reference image. So it can be utilized to various contents generating research.
The manufacturing techniques were studied by investigating a precise analysis on wall structure, features of materials and the painting layer of the bracket mural paintings at Daeungbojeon Hall in Naesosa temple. The wall frame is a single-branch structure, and The mural paintings are composed of 3 layers which are a support layer, a finishing layer and a painting layer. The support layer and the finishing layer are an earth wall that sand and clay such as Quartz, Feldspar, and etc. are mixed. The support and the finishing layers have a combination of medium particle sand and smaller than fine particle sand in the approximate ratios of 0.8:9.2 and 6:4, respectively. Therefore, the aforementioned ratio of sand with medium or large particles is relatively higher in the finishing layer than the support layer. As a result of a precise analysis on the painting layer, it has a relatively thick ground layer for painting which is maximum $456.15{\mu}m$ by using Celadonite or Glauconite and the paintings were colored by using pigments such as Atacamite, Kaolinite or Halloysite, Oxidized steel, and etc. on it. The manufacturing style and the painting techniques of an earth wall are included in the category of the Joseon Dynasty style that have been studied up to now, but the facts that the finishing layer has a high content of sand and a middle layer and chopped straw have not been identified. These are remarkable points in terms of structure and materials, and can be crucial in the evaluation of the state of conservation of mural paintings or preparation of a conservation plan.
