Temperature effect on seismic performance of CBFs equipped with SMA braces

  • Shape memory alloys (SMAs) exhibit superelasticity given the ambient temperature is above the austenite finish temperature threshold, the magnitude of which significantly depends on the metal ingredients though. For the monocrystalline CuAlBe SMAs, their superelasticity was found being maintained even when the ambient temperature is down to $-40^{\circ}C$. Thus this makes such SMAs particularly favorable for outdoor seismic applications, such as the framed structures located in cold regions with substantial temperature oscillation. Due to the thermo-mechanical coupling mechanism, the hysteretic properties of SMAs vary with temperature change, primarily including altered material strength and different damping. Thus, this study adopted the monocrystalline CuAlBe SMAs as the kernel component of the SMA braces. To quantify the seismic response characteristics at various temperatures, a wide temperature range from -40 to $40^{\circ}C$ are considered. The middle temperature, $0^{\circ}C$, is artificially selected to be the reference temperature in the performance comparisons, as well the corresponding material properties are used in the seismic design procedure. Both single-degree-of-freedom systems and a six-story braced frame were numerically analyzed by subjecting them to a suite of earthquake ground motions corresponding to the design basis hazard level. To the frame structures, the analytical results show that temperature variation generates minor influence on deformation and energy demands, whereas low temperatures help to reduce acceleration demands. Further, attributed to the excellent superelasticity of the monocrystalline CuAlBe SMAs, the frames successfully maintain recentering capability without leaving residual deformation upon considered earthquakes, even when the temperature is down to $-40^{\circ}C$.

  • Seismologists now suggest that the earth has entered an active seismic period; many earthquake-related events are occurring globally. Consequently, numerous casualties, as well as economic losses due to earthquakes, have been reported in recent years. Primarily, significant and colossal damage occurs in reinforced concrete (RC) buildings with masonry infill wall systems, and the construction of these types of structures have increased worldwide. According to a report from the Ministry of Education in the Republic of Korea, many buildings were built with RC frames with masonry infill walls in the Republic of Korea during the 1980s. For years, most structures of this type have been school buildings, and since the Pohang earthquake in 2017, the government of the Republic of Korea has paid close attention to this social event and focused on damage from earthquakes. From a long-term research perspective, damage from structural collapse due to the short column effect has been a major concern, specifically because the RC frame with a masonry infill wall system is the typical form of structure for school buildings. Therefore, the short column effect has recently been a major topic for research. This study compares one RC frame with four different types of RC frames with masonry infill wall systems. Structural damage due to the short column effect is clearly analyzed, as the result of this research is giving in a higher infill wall system produces a greater shear force on the connecting point between the infill wall system and the column. The study is expected to be a useful reference for research on the short column effect in RC frames with masonry infill wall systems.

상호매체성의 이론과 그 적용 - 피터 그리너웨이의 <프로스페로의 서재>를 중심으로 (A Theory of Intermediality and its Application in Peter Greenaway's )

  • The cinema of Peter Greenaway has consistently engaged questions of the relationship between the arts and particularly the relations of image and writing to cinema. When different types of images are correlated and merged with each other on the borders of painting, photography, film, video and computer animation, the interrelationships of the distinct elements cause a shift in the notion of the whole image. This analysis proposes to articulate the complex relationship between the 'interartial' dimension and the 'intermedial' dimension in Peter Greenaway's film, (1991). If the interartiality is interested in the interaction between various arts, including the transition from one to another, the intermediality articulates the same type of relationship between two or more media. The interactional relationship is the same on both sides; on the contrary, the relationship between art and media does not show the same symmetry. All art is based on one or more media - the media is a condition existence of art - but no art can't be reduced to the status of media. This suggests that if the interartiality always involves the intermediality, this proposal may not be reversed. First, we analyse a self-conscious investigation into digital art and technology. Prosospero's Books can be read as a daring visual essay that self-consciously investigates the technical and philosophical functions of letters, books, images, animated paintings, digital arts, and the other magical illusions, which have been modern or will be post-modern media to represent the world. Greenaway uses both conventional film techniques and the resources of high-definition television to layer image upon image, superimposing a second or third frame within his frame. Greenaway uses the frame-within-frame as the cinematic equivalent of Shakespeare's paly-within-play : it offer him the possibility to analyse the work of art/artist/spectator relationship. Secondly, we analyse the relationship between the written word, oral word and the books. Like the written word, the oral word changes into a visual image: The linguistic richness and nuances of Shakeaspeare's characters turn into the powerful and authoritative, but monotone, voices of Gielgud-Prospero, who speaks the Shakespearean lines aloud, shaping the characters so powerfully through his worlds that they are conjured before us. Specially each book is placed over the frame of the play's action, only partially covering the image, so that it gives virtually every frame at least two space-time orientations. Thirdly, we try to show how Peter Greenaway uses pictorial references in order to illustrate the context of the Renaissance as well as pictorial techniques and language in order to question the nature of artistic representation. For exemple, The storm is visualised through reference to Botticelli's : the storm of papers swirling around the library is constructed to look like a facsimili copy of Michelangelo's Laurentiana Library in Florence. Greenaway's modern mannerism consists in imposing his own aesthetic vision and his questioning of art beyond the play's meta-theatricality: in other words, Shakespeare''s text has been adapted without being betrayed.

건설공사 사후평가 수행결과의 효과적인 분석방법 (Effective Analysis Framework for Construction Post Evaluation)

  • 건설공사 사후평가는 공공건설공사의 효율성을 평가하고, 사업결과에 대한 적정성을 검증하여 추후 유사한 건설공사에 활용 가능한 정보를 제공하기 위해 도입되었으나, 인식 부족 등에 의해 활발한 제도 이행은 미흡한 실정이다. 이에 본 연구는 건설공사 사후평가 수행결과를 활용하여 추후 유사한 프로젝트 수행 시 참고자료로 활용 가능한 기본적인 틀을 제공하는 것을 목적으로, 건설공사 사후평가 수행결과의 효과적인 분석방법을 제시하고 이를 토대로 시범적인 분석을 수행하였다. 분석은 사후평가 결과가 건설CALS에 입력된 국도, 고속도로, 철도, 항만 등 293건의 건설공사를 대상으로 하였다. 분석결과, 철도 사업의 공사비 증감율이 고속도로, 국도, 항만공사 보다 높게 나타났다. 그리고 고속도로의 공사기간 증감율은 철도, 국도, 항만보다 큰 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구를 통해 제시된 사후평가 분석 프레임워크는 추후 프로젝트에 유용한 정보를 제공하고 벤치마킹 도구로써 유용하며, 지속적인 건설공사 사후평가 수행을 통해 다양한 분석이 가능하다는 점에서 큰 의미가 있다.

붐(Boom)의 탄성을 고려한 해상크레인의 비선형 정적/동적 거동을 위한 수치 해석 (Numerical Analysis for Nonlinear Static and Dynamic Responses of Floating Crane with Elastic Boom)

  • 해상크레인은 크레인을 탑재한 선박으로서, 조선소에서 대형 블록이나 구조물의 탑재 및 해상 운송 작업에 사용된다. 본 논문에서는 해상크레인과 중량물의 전후 동요(Surge), 상하 동요(Heave), 종 동요(Pitch)에 대한 정적/동적거동을 분석하였다. 이 때, 유연 다물체계 동역학을 적용하여 해상크레인의 붐(boom)을 탄성으로 고려하였으며, 플로팅 프레임(floating frame)과 노드 좌표(nodal coordinates)를 사용하였다. 질량 행렬, 탄성 강성 행렬, 2 차 속도 벡터, 일반화 좌표 방향으로 작용하는 외력 등을 고려하여 모든 운동이 연성된 비선형 운동 방정식을 구성하였다. 외력으로는 비선형 유체정역학 힘, 선형화된 유체동역학 힘, wire rope 힘, 계류력이 고려되었다. 수치 해석을 위해 Hilber-Hughes-Taylor 방법을 비선형 운동방정식에 적용하였다. 정적 거동 분석을 통한 정적 평형 자세를 고려한 경우와 고려하지 않은 경우에 대해 결과를 비교하였으며, 수치 해석 방법에 대한 정적/동적 거동 분석 결과를 비교하였다.

한국형 전술차량 크로스멤버 강도개선에 관한 연구 (A Study on Cross Member Strength Improvement of Korean Light Tactical Vehicle)

  • 한국형 전술차량(KLTV)의 섀시는 장비 운용 특성상 경량화 설계기술을 적용한 프레임 온 바디 구조를 적용하고 있다. 군용차량은 민수차량 대비 가혹한 도로 환경에서 사용되고 있으며, 특히 경사가 가파른 산악지형에서 운용되는 경우가 많다. 이러한 장비 운용 특성으로 인해 일부 전방부대 차량에서 프레임을 구성하는 크로스멤버 용접부위에 균열이 확인되었다. 이에 본 논문에서는 균열이 발생된 부대를 포함한 다양한 운용 도로 환경 파악을 통해 노면 가혹도 분석을 실시하였다. 그 결과 일부 부대의 전술도로는 차량 개발 시 내구도 주행시험을 실시한 도로보다 약 1.6배 이상 훨씬 가혹한 조건임을 확인하였다. 또한 전술차량 프레임에 대한 설계 검토 및 고품 분석을 통해 용접부위 균열 발생 근본원인을 파악하고, 설계 및 공정개선 방안을 도출하였다. 제안된 개선안은 실차 적용을 통한 검증시험으로 효과성을 확인하였다. 아울러 내구도 주행시험에 대한 발전방향을 제시함으로써 향후 유사 차량 개발 시 참고자료로 활용할 수 있도록 하였다.

Cloning and Sequence Analysis of Glyceraldehyde-3-Phosphate Dehydrogenase Gene in Yak

  • In order to study the biological function of gapdh gene in yak, and prove whether the gapdh gene was a useful intra-reference gene that can be given an important role in molecular biology research of yak, the cDNA sequence encoding glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase from yak was cloned by the RT-PCR method using gene specific PCR primers. The sequence results indicated that the cloned cDNA fragment (1,008 bp) contained a 1,002 bp open reading frame, encoding 333 amino acids (AAs) with a molecular mass of 35.753 kDa. The deduced amino acids sequence showed a high level of sequence identity to Bos Taurus (99.70%), Xenopus laevis (94.29%), Homo sapiens (97.01%), Mus musculus (97.90%) and Sus scrofa (98.20%). The expression of yak's gapdh gene in heart, spleen, kidney and brain tissues was also detected; the results showed that the gapdh gene was expressed in all these tissues. Further analysis of yak GAPDH amino acid sequence implied that it contained a complete glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase active site (ASCTTNCL) which ranged from 148 to 155 amino acid residues. It also contained two conserved domains, a NAD binding domain in its N-terminal and a complete catalytic domain of sugar transport in its C-terminal. The phylogenetic analysis showed that yak and Bos taurus were the closest species. The prediction of secondary structures indicated that GAPDH of yak had a similar secondary structure to other isolated GAPDH. The results of this study suggested that the gapdh gene of yak was similar to other species and could be used as the intra-reference to analyze the expression of other genes in yak.

  • This paper deals with the dynamic analysis of variable speed wind power systems with doubly-fed induction generators (DFIG). First, the mathematical modeling of wind farm which consists of turbine rotor, DFIG, rotor side and grid side converter and control systems is presented. In particular, the equation for dynamic modeling of the DFIG and the AC/DC/AC converter is expressed as dq reference frame. And then, on the basis of mathematical modeling for each component of wind farm, dynamic simulation algorithms for speed and pitch angle control of wind turbine and generated active and reactive power control of the DFIG and the AC/DC/AC converter are established. Finally, Using the MATLAB/SIMULINK, this paper presents dynamic simulation model for 6MW wind power generation systems with the DFIG considering distribution systems and performs the dynamic analysis of wind power systems in steady state. Moreover, this paper also presents the dynamic performance for the case when the voltage sag in grid source and phase fault in bus are occurred.

스월 브레이크가 장착된 래버린스 씰의 동특성 해석 (Rotordynamic Analysis of Labyrinth Seal with Swirl Brake)

  • In this research, the rotordynamic characteristics of the labyrinth seal with and without swirl brake were predicted using the computational fluid dynamic (CFD) model. Based on previous studies, a simple swirl brake consisting of square vanes without stagger angle is designed and placed in front of the seal inlet. The rotating frame of reference is utilized to consider the whirling motion of the rotor in the steady-state analysis since the whirling motion is transient behavior in nature. CFD analysis was performed in the range of -1 to 1 pre-swirl ratio for a given seal and swirl brake design and operating conditions. The CFD analysis result shows that the swirl brake effectively reduces the pre-swirl since the circumferential fluid velocity of labyrinth seal with swirl brake was lower than that without swirl brake. The cross-coupled stiffness coefficient, which is greatly affected by the circumferential fluid velocity, increased with an increasing pre-swirl ratio in a seal without a swirl brake but showed a low value in a seal with a swirl brake. The change in the damping coefficient was relatively small. The effective damping coefficient of the labyrinth seal with swirl brake was generally constant and showed a higher value than the labyrinth seal without swirl brake.

소형터보압축기 회전차와 볼류트의 상호작용 (Interaction of Impeller and Volute in a Small-size Turbo-Compressor)

  • The effects of casing shapes on the interaction of the impeller and volute in a small-size turbo-compressor are investigated. Numerical analysis is conducted for the compressor with circular and single volute casings from inlet to discharge nozzle. In order to predict the flow pattern inside the entire impeller, vaneless diffuser, and casing, calculations with a multiple frame of reference method between the rotating and stationery parts of the domain are carried out. For incompressible turbulent flow fields, the continuity and three-dimensional time-averaged Navier-Stokes equations are employed. To predict the performance of two types of casings, the static pressure and loss coefficients are obtained with various flow rates. Also, static pressure distributions around casings are studied for different casing shapes, which are very important to predict the distribution of radial load.
