  • A Ka Band 3-stage MMIC (Monolithic Microwave Integrated Circuits) LNA(Low Noise Amplifiers) has been designed. The MMIC LNA consists of two single-ended type amplication stapes and one balanced type amplication stage to satisfy noise figure characteristics and high gain and amplitude linearity. The 0.15um pHEMT has been used to provide a ultra low noise figure and high gain amplification. Series and Shunt feedback circuits were inserted to ensure high stability over frequency range of DC to 80 GHz. The size of designed MMIC LNA is 3100mm ${\times}$ 2400um(7.44$\textrm{mm}^2$). The on wafer measured noise figure of the MMIC LNA is less than 2.0 dB over frequency range of 22 GHz to 30 GHz.

  • The resolution of analog sensor is determined by its sensitivity and amplitude of noise. This paper presents modeling of inductive gap sensor base on equivalent magnetic circuit and analysis of sensitivity. The model of inductive gap sensor is verified by the experimental results. Then we can simulate static characteristic of inductive gap sensor using this model. Computer simulation show that sensor's sensitivity and linearity are affected by magnetic flux's leakage and fringing, and that they are affected by shape of sensor probe.

  • When a tube is oscillated at a resonant frequency, acoustic variables such as density, velocity, and pressure undergo very large perturbation, often described as nonlinear oscillation. In order to analyze these phenomena, nonlinear governing equation has been drived and solved numerically. Numerical simulations were accomplished to study the effect of the tube shape on the maximum pressure we can obtain. The tubes of cylindrical, conical, and cosine-shape, which have same volume and length, were investigated. Results show that the resonant frequency and patterns of pressure waves strongly depend on not only the tube shape but also the amplitude of driving acceleration. The degree of non-linearity of wave patterns was also measured by the newly defined nonlinear energy ratio of the pressure signals. It was found that the 1/2 cosine-shape tube is more suitable to induce high compression ratio than other shapes.

  • A sinusoidal tuned VCO based on linear OTA's has been designed for instrumentation and measurement applications. It consists of a noniverting amplifier, a hard limiter, and a current controlable LC-tuned circuit which is realized vy two linear OTA's and two grounded capacitors. A prototype circuit has been built with discrete components. The experimental results show that the proposed VCO has a linearity error of less than 6.5 percent and a temperature coefficient of less than 200ppm/$^{\circ}C$ over a bias current range form 5$\mu$A to 100 $\mu$A(or an oscillation frequency range form 775.5 Hz to 20.371 kHz). A total harmonic distortion of 0.6 percent was measured for a peak-to-peak amplitude of 5V.

  • In this paper a new controller is proposed to operate the interior permanent magnet synchronous motor(IPMSM) by the control method of the maximum torque per ampere in constant torque region. The implementation method of the conventional torque controller is explained and analyzed exactly. The proposed controller does not use the torque and q-axis current of the speed controller but the amplitude of the stator current in order to utilize not only the magnetic alignment torque but also the reluctance in the constant region, gurantees the linearity of the torque, and is easily implemented. These attractive are verified through the experiment.

  • Amplifier linearity plays a major role in the quality of mordern communication systems. The Power amplifier should be operated near saturation region to achieve high efficiency But at this region amplitude and phase distortions of the amplifier remarkably increase with the input power increase and cause a significant adjacent channel interference. In this paper, an independently controllable AM/AM and AM/PM predistortion linearizers consisted of two bias feed resistance linearizers is proposed. This linearizer allows independent adjustment of the AM/AM and AM/PM curves by using two adjustable voltages to compensate tile power amplifier non-linearities. The predistortion linearizer can improve the ACPR by 5.3dB with cdma2000 multi carrier signals. And by applying this linearizer to two-tone(880MHz) power amplifier, third order IMD products are improved up to 8(dB).

  • Objective: We tested the usefulness of swim-down technique using human follicular fluid (hFF) in sperm preparation. Methods: Semen samples were obtained from twelve male partners showing asthenozoospermia (sperm motility < 50%) at the time of routine andrologic evaluation in Seoul National University Bundang Hospital. After dividing into two aliquots, each samples were processed either by swim-down using 100% hFF or density gradient using SpermGrad. Sperm quality was assessed by computer-assisted semen analyzer (CASA). Results: Motility, Rapid motility, VCL (curvilinear velocity), ALH (amplitude of lateral head displacement), and hyperactivated sperms were significantly increased, and LIN (mean linearity) was decreased significantly after sperm preparation in both groups. Motility was significantly higher after swim-down using 100% hFF when compared with density gradient using SpermGrad ($81.2{\pm}4.7$ vs. $67.6{\pm}2.3$, p=0.02) The other parameters assessed by CASA were not different between the two methods. Conclusion: Swim-down method with 100% hFF may be a useful method in preparation of sperm from asthenozoospermia.

  • Garole is a prolific, rare, less known and small size Indian sheep breed found in low and humid Sunderban region of West Bengal. Although information on stored Garole ram liquid semen upto 24 h is available, but there is a need to further investigate the short-term and long-term preservability of Garole ram semen for extensive utilization of this valuable germplasm by artificial insemination. The aim of the present study was to apply computer-assisted sperm analysis technique for assessing the motion characteristics of Garole ram semen stored (i) in liquid state at refrigeration temperature for short-term preservation upto 48 h and (ii) in frozen state at $-196^{\circ}C$ for long-term preservation after packaging in mini straws. Short-term preservation had a significant effect on motility (p<0.01) as the motility progressively decreased from 90.1% at 0 h to 85.5% and 73.2% after 24 and 48 h of storage, respectively. Although the decline in rapid moving sperms was also significant (p<0.01) on storage but the decrease was more pronounced at 48 h as compared to 24 h of storage period. Storage of chilled semen had also a significant effect on % linearity (p<0.05), % straightness (p<0.01), sperm velocities (p<0.01), amplitude of lateral head displacement (p<0.01) and beat frequency (pO.Ol) of spermatozoa. The replication had a significant effect for all the variables except average path and straight line velocity. However, the interactions of short-term storage and replication were non-significant for most of the variables except % of medium moving sperms, sperm velocities and beat frequency. On long-term preservation of Garole ram spermatozoa under controlled conditions the mean post-thaw recovery of 70.4 and 71.4% motile spermatozoa was achieved having 48.8 and 48.9% of rapidly motile spermatozoa, respectively in both the replicates. The effect of replication on cryopreservation was significant (p<0.05) on amplitude of lateral head displacement and beat frequency, but there was no significant effect on motility, rapidly motile spermatozoa, linearity, straightness and sperm velocities of frozen-thawed spermatozoa. It can be concluded from these results that an average 70% motility can be achieved on storage of Garole ram semen in chilled liquid state upto 48 h or in liquid nitrogen after freezing under controlled conditions in straws. However, further studies are required to evaluate the fertility of short-term and long-term preserved Garole ram semen for extensive use of this prolific sheep breed.

  • Oral exposure of humans by excess amounts of arsenic may cause disturbances of the reproductive system. In the present study, such exposure was modelled in rats, with the support of sperm principal parameters and histopathological observations. Male Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into three groups where the group I was served as a normal control, group II was received sodium meta-arsenite as arsenic (10 mg/kg b.w/day) and a combination of sodium meta-arsenite and sodium selenite (3 mg/kg b.w/day) in group III. After 6 weeks, there was no significant change in testis weight and in total motility of all the three experimental groups, whereas, rapid moving spermatozoa, moderately moving spermatozoa and slow moving spermatozoa were significantly decreased in arsenic treated rats as compared to control rats. The other sperm principal parameters like progressiveness, average path velocity, straightness linear velocity (VSL), curvilinear velocity (VCL), straightness, linearity sperm head elongation ratio, area, linearity amplitude of lateral head department (ALH) and beat cross frequency (BCF) were found to be reduced in arsenic intoxicated rats. These results are not correlated with the histological studies. On oral administration of selenium ameliorated the adverse effects of arsenic as compared to arsenic alone treated rats. Our findings clearly demonstrate that administration of selenium could prevent some of the deleterious effects of arsenic in the testis.
