In this paper, we propose a three-dimensional (3D) image correlator by use of computational integral imaging reconstruction based on the modified convolution property of periodic functions (CPPF) for recognition of partially occluded objects. In the proposed correlator, elemental images of the reference and target objects are picked up by a lenslet array, and subsequently are transformed to a sub-image array which contains different perspectives according to the viewing direction. The modified version of the CPPF is applied to the sub-images. This enables us to produce the plane sub-image arrays without the magnification and superimposition processes used in the conventional methods. With the modified CPPF and the sub-image arrays, we reconstruct the reference and target plane sub-image arrays according to the reconstruction plane. 3D object recognition is performed through cross-correlations between the reference and the target plane sub-image arrays. To show the feasibility of the proposed method, some preliminary experiments on the target objects are carried out and the results are presented. Experimental results reveal that the use of plane sub-image arrays enables us to improve the correlation performance, compared to the conventional method using the computational integral imaging reconstruction algorithm.
The ecology of Physically Embedded Intelligent Systems (PEIS) is a new multi robotic framework conceived by integrating insights from the fields of autonomous robotics and ambient intelligence. A PEIS-Ecology is a network of intelligent robotic devices that can provide the user with assistance, information, communication, and entertainment services. In this paper we introduce the concept of PEIS Ecology, and illustrate a concrete realization of a PEIS-Ecology.
In this paper, we propose a novel framework to evaluate the depth resolution of axially distributed stereo sensing (ADSS) under fixed resource constraints. The proposed framework can evaluate the performance of ADSS systems based on various sensing parameters such as the number of cameras, the number of total pixels, pixel size and so on. The Monte Carlo simulations for the proposed framework are performed and the evaluation results are presented.

3D integral imaging technique with an active mask is capable of displaying real 3D images with high resolution in space. In this paper, we present a novel 3D/2D convertible integral imaging display system using an active mask. For the proposed method, the principles of 3D, 2D, and 3D/2D composed operations are explained according to the displayed images through two LCD panels. In 3D mode, the elemental images and the mask images are displayed in two display panels. On the other hand, the light source image and 2D image are displayed in 2D mode. In addition, 3D/2D mode is obtained using the spatial separation for 3D and 2D modes. To show the feasibility of the proposed method, we carry out the preliminary experiments and present the optical results.

In this paper, we analyze the influences of ship traffic and marine weather information on underwater ambient noise. Ambient noise is an important environmental factor that greatly affects the detection performance of underwater sonar systems. In order to implement an automated system such as prediction of detection performance using artificial intelligence technology, which has been recently studied, it is necessary to obtain and analyze major data related to these. The main sources of ambient noise have various causes. In the case of sonar systems operating in offshore seas, the detection performance is greatly affected by the noise caused by ship traffic and marine weather. Therefore, in this paper, the impact of each data was analyzed using the measurement results of ambient noise obtained in coastal area of the East Sea of Korea, and public data of nearby ship traffic and ocean weather information. As a result, it was observed that the underwater ambient noise was highly correlated with the change of the ship's traffic volume, and that marine environment factors such as wind speed, wave height, and rainfall had an effect on a specific frequency band.

Ambient Air Vaporizer (AAV) is an essential facility in the process of generating natural gas that uses air in the atmosphere as a medium for heat exchange to vaporize liquid natural gas into gas-state gas. AAV is more economical and eco-friendly in that it uses less energy compared to the previously used Submerged vaporizer (SMV) and Open-rack vaporizer (ORV). However, AAV is not often applied to actual processes because it is heavily affected by external environments such as atmospheric temperature and humidity. With insufficient operational experience and facility operations that rely on the intuition of the operator, the actual operation of AAV is very inefficient. To address these challenges, this paper proposes an artificial intelligence-based model that can intelligent AAV operations based on operational big data. The proposed artificial intelligence model is used deep neural networks, and the superiority of the artificial intelligence model is verified through multiple regression analysis and comparison. In this paper, the proposed model simulates based on data collected from real-world processes and compared to existing data, showing a 48.8% decrease in power usage compared to previous data. The techniques proposed in this paper can be used to improve the energy efficiency of the current natural gas generation process, and can be applied to other processes in the future.
In this paper, we present a method to detect the position of a 3D object in scattering media by using the axially distributed sensing (ADS) method. Due to the scattering noise of the elemental images recorded by the ADS method, we apply a statistical image processing algorithm where the scattering elemental images are converted into scatter-reduced ones. With the scatter-reduced elemental images, we reconstruct the 3D images using the digital reconstruction algorithm based on ray back-projection. The reconstructed images are used for the position detection of a 3D object in the scattering medium. We perform the preliminary experiments and present experimental results.
In this paper, a unifying framework to evaluate the depth resolution of axially distributed image sensing (ADS) systems under fixed resource constraints is proposed. The proposed framework enables one to evaluate the system performance as a function of system parameters such as the number of cameras, the number of pixels, pixel size, and so on. The Monte Carlo simulations are carried out to evaluate ADS system performance as a function of system parameters. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report on quantitative analysis of ADS systems under fixed resource constraints.
In this paper, we propose a 3D display method combining a pickup process using axially recorded multiple images and an integral imaging display process. First, we extract the color and depth information of 3D objects for displaying 3D images from axially recorded multiple 2D images. Next, using the extracted depth map and color images, elemental images are computationally synthesized based on a ray mapping model between 3D space and an elemental image plane. Finally, we display 3D images optically by an integral imaging system with a lenslet array. To show the usefulness of the proposed system, we carry out optical experiments for 3D objects and present the experimental results.
In this paper, state-of-the-art digital holography and integral imaging have been introduced as practical three-dimensional imaging and display technology. Operational principles and recent research and development activities of these technologies have been discussed, as well as a vision of their future.
