AC8A 알루미늄합금 주조재의 열처리에 의한 특성 평가 (Evaluation of the Characteristics of the Aluminum Alloy Casting Material by Heat Treatment)

  • Aluminum is on active metal, but it is well known that its oxide film plays a role as protective barrier which is comparatively stable in air and neutral aqueous solution. Thus, aluminum alloys have been widely applied in architectural trim, cold & hot-water storage vessels and piping etc., furthermore, the aluminum alloy of AC8A have been widely used in mold casting material of engine piston because of its properties of temperature and wear resistance. In recent years, the oil price is getting higher and higher, thus the using of low quality oil has been significantly increased in engines of ship and vehicle. Therefore it is considered that evaluation of corrosion resistance as well as wear resistance of AC8A material is also important to improve its property and prolong its lifetime. In this study, the effect of solution and tempering heat treatment to corrosion and wear resistance is investigated with electrochemical method and measurement of hardness. The hardness decreased with solution heat treatment compared to mold casting condition, but its value increased with tempering heat treatment and exhibited the highest value of hardness with tempering heat treatment temperature at $190^{\circ}C$ for 24hrs. Furthermore, corrosion resistance increased with decreasing of the hardness, and decreased with increasing of the hardness reversely. As a result, it is suggested that the optimum heat treatment to improve both corrosion and wear resistance is tempering heat treatment temperature at $190^{\circ}C$ for 16hrs.

A Study on Composites of Ethylene-Vinyl Acetate Copolymer and Ethylene-Propylene-Diene Rubber with Aluminum Hydroxide as a Fire Retardant

  • The composites of EVA/EPDM including aluminum trioxide (ATH) as a fire retardant were manufactured for the purpose of improving low temperature property and flame resistance in the rubbery materials. The ratio of EVA to EPDM didn't affect the flame resistance of the rubber composites. The addition of ATH resulted in increase of the flame resistance. In the evaluation of the cold resistance, the increasing EPDM content showed enhancement of cold resistance in the composites due to increasing low Tg EPDM. It was found out that tensile strengths of the composites showed a maximum value at 100 phr of ATH by reinforcing effect, but a minimum value at 200 phr of ATH owing to slippage between the flame retardant by the external stress. In the measurement of solvent resistance in tetrahydrofuran, the increasing ATH content yielded enhancement of solvent resistance by reducing swelling of the composite, and increasing EPDM content also resulted from increase of the solvent resistance by reduction of polarizability as well as increase of crosslink in the composites.

30피트급 고속 알루미늄 레저보트 선형개발과 저항성능에 관한 연구 (Study on Hull Form Development and Resistance Performance of High Speed Aluminum Leisure Boat)

  • A 30ft class aluminum leisure boat is newly developed and the resistance performances are investigated by a model test at a high-speed circulating water channel. The effect of a fin attached to the side of the hull is studied at two different displacements. Wave patterns are observed to make clear the relationship between the resistance performance and wave characteristics. It can be found that a chine position at the draft line can have a strong effect on the resistance performance around a certain velocity range.

알루미늄 6061 합금 양극산화 후 열처리에 따른 표면 특성 관찰 (Effects of Heat Treatment on Surface Properties of Aluminum 6061 Alloy After Anodization)

  • Anodization is a representative electrochemical surface treatment method that can improve both heat resistance and corrosion resistance by forming an anodization film on the surface of the aluminum. However, these properties can be changed after an additional heat treatment process. In this study, Al 6061 was subjected to an anodization process at 60 V for 1 hour, 5 hours, or 9 hours. An additional heat treatment process was performed at 500 ℃ for 30 minutes. Field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) analysis revealed that the thickness of the anodized film was increased in proportion to the anodization time. Both pore size and pore diameter of the anodized film was also increased after anodization. After an additional heat treatment process, there were no significant changes in the thickness, pore size, or pore diameter of the anodized film. Heat resistance was confirmed through thermal analysis and chemical resistance was evaluated with a potentiodynamic polarization test.

  • Anodizing is a typical electrochemical surface treatment method that can improve the corrosion and insulating properties of aluminum alloys. The anodization process can obtain a dense structure. It can be used to artificially grow the thickness of an anodization film. Aluminum 3003 alloy used in this study is the most commonly used alloy for batteries due to its high strength and excellent formability as well as its weldability and corrosion resistance. Aluminum 3003 alloy was anodized at 0 ℃ with 0.3 M oxalic acid at 20 V, 40 V, or 60 V for 1 hour, 6 hours, or 12 hours. As a result of analyzing the composition of each specimen with an Energy Dispersive Spectrometer (EDS), aluminum was converted into an oxide film. The thickness of the formed anodization film increased when the applied voltage and anodization time increased. High corrosion potential values and low corrosion current density values were observed for the thickest oxide layer. The anodization film formed by anodization acted as a protective layer. The electrical resistance increased as the applied voltage and anodization time increased.

Ti 또는 Ti/TiN underlayer가 Al 박막의 배향성 및 면저항에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Ti or Ti/TiN Underlayers on the Crystallographic Texture and Sheet Resistance of Aluminum Thin Films)

  • Underlayer의 종류 및 두께가 Al 박막의 배향성 및 면저항 변화에 미치는 영향을 연구하였다. Al의 underlayer로서 sputtering 방식으로 증착되는 Ti와 TiN이 적층된 구조인 Ti/TiN이 사용되었으며, 각각에 대해 두께를 변화시키면서 Al 박막의 배향성, 면저항을 조사하였고, $400^{\circ}C,\;N_2$ 분위기에서 열처리하면서 면저항의 변화를 조사하였다. Ti만을 Al의 underlayer로 사용한 경우, Ti두께가 10nm 이상이면 우수한 Al <111> 배향성을 나타냈으며 Al-Ti 반응 때문에 열처리 후 Al 배선의 면저항이 크게 상승하였다. Ti와 Al사이에 TiN을 적용함에 의해 Al <111> 배향성은 나빠지나 Al-Ti 반응에 의한 면저항의 증가는 억제할 수 있었다. Ti/TiN underlayer의 경우, 우수한 Al <111> 배향성을 확보하기 위한 Ti의 최소두께는 20nm이었고, Al-Ti 반응을 억제하기 위한 TiN의 최소두께는 20nm이었다.

말론산 에스테르 합성 및 이를 이용한 알루미늄 가공용 절삭유의 제조 (Preparation of Aluminum Metalworking Lubricant with Synthesized Malonic Diester)

  • To provide an aqueous rust inhibitor for metalworking lubricant having low toxicity and excellent rust resistance, we synthesized diester of malonic acid by three consecutive esterifications with over 98% of conversion. This substituted malonic diester could be used as an additive to mineral oil based metalworking lubricant. These metalworking lubricant compositions were showed excellent rust resistance and suitable for various metals and different metalworking processes including hot rolling and cold rolling of aluminum and aluminum alloys.

  • In order to obtain the basic informations for the development of high strength and high weldability aluminum alloy sheets, the experimental study was carried out to evaluate resistance spot welding characteristics and welding parameters (welding current, welding time, electrode force) far the aluminum alloy sheets. The mechanical properties of spot weld of aluminum alloy were evaluated by tensile shear test and by peel test at room temperature and also the welding possible zone was established through variation of current electrode force and welding time.

Development of Heat- and Creep-resistant Fine-grained Rapidly Solidified P/M Aluminum Alloy

  • The new alloy$^{1)}$ is made from rapidly solidified Al-Ni-Zr-Ce aluminum alloy powder, and has the following unique mechanical characteristics:(1) The stress-strain curve shows a yield point; (2) The alloy shows high heat resistance; (3) Although the alloy is submicron particle diameter, it shows excellent creep resistance. We observed the micro structures of this new alloy, and it is thought that is based on the following reasons:(1) The dislocation strongly adheres to the alloy's many crystal boundaries;(2) The added alloying elements have a small diffusion coefficient in aluminum;(3) The tiny intermetallic compound particles crystallizing at the grain boundary.

Effects of Corrosion Inhibitor on Corrosion of Al-based Alloys in Ethylene Glycol-Water Coolant Environment

  • The objective of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of sodium dodecyl benzene sulfonate (SDBS) as a corrosion inhibitor on the pitting corrosion behavior of aluminum alloys used in electric vehicle battery cooling systems within a mixture of ethylene glycol and water (EG-W) coolant. Potentiodynamic polarization testing revealed unstable passive film formation on the aluminum alloys in the absence of SDBS. However, the addition of SDBS resulted in a robust passive film, enhancing the pitting corrosion resistance across all examined alloys. Pitting corrosion was predominantly observed near intermetallic compounds in the presence of Cl? ions, which was attributed to galvanic interactions. Among tested alloys, A1040 demonstrated superior resistance due to its lower areal fraction of precipitates and donor density. The incorporation of SDBS inhibitors mitigated the overall pitting corrosion process by hindering Cl? ion penetration. These findings suggest that SDBS can significantly improve pitting corrosion resistance in aluminum alloys employed in battery coolant environments.
