  • A process comprising a hot extrusion process and a warm forging process was designed to form a T-shaped aluminum structural component with a high degree of difficulty by the plastic forming method. A circular cylindrical part was extruded with a hot extrusion process, and then an embossing part was formed with a warm forging process. The formability and the maximum load required for forming were then determined using a forming analysis program. The hot extrusion process was executed at $450^{\circ}C$ under the extrusion speed at 6 mm/s, while the warm forging process was executed at $260^{\circ}C$ under the forging speed at 150 mm/s. For both the processes, a condition by which friction would not be generated between the mold and the material was implemented. The analysis results showed that the load required for hot extrusion was 1,019 tons, while the load required for the warm forging was 534 tons. The T-shaped part was manufactured by using a 1,600 tons capacity press. The graphite lubricant was coated on the mold as well as the material. A forming experiment was performed under the same condition with the analysis condition. The measured values from the load cell were 1,210 tons in the hot extrusion process and 600 tons in the warm forging process.

  • The development of metal plasma generated by high laser irradiance and its effect on the surrounding air using shadowgraph images after laser pulse termination are studied; hence the formation of laser supported detonation and combustion processes has been investigated. The core of the paper is in detecting chemical reaction using X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) between ablated aluminum plasma and oxygen from air by inducing high power laser pulse (>1000 mJ/pulse) and conduct a quantitative comparison of chemically reactive laser initiated waves with the classical detonation of exploding aluminum (dust) cloud in air. This study may suggest a new approach of initiating detonation from metal sample in its bulk form without the need of mixing nano-particles with oxygen for initiation.

  • Friction stir spot welding (FSSW) is a solid-state joining process and a rapidly growing dissimilar material welding technology for joining metallic alloys in the automotive industry. Welding tool shape and process conditions must be appropriately controlled to obtain high bonding characteristics. In this study, FSSW is performed on dissimilar materials AA5052-H32 aluminum alloy sheet and SPRC440 steel sheet, and the influence of the shape of joining tool and tool insertion depth during joining is investigated. A new intermetallic compound is produced at the aluminum and steel sheets joint. When the insertion depth of the tool is insufficient, the intermetallic compound between the two sheets did not form uniformly. As the insertion depth increased, the intermetallic compound layer become uniform and continuous. The joint specimen shows higher values of tensile shear load as the diameter and insertion depth of the tool increase. This shows that the uniform formation of the intermetallic compound strengthens the bonding force between the joining specimens and increases the tensile shear load.

  • A theoretical study is presented for the prediction of the scattering of obliquely incident plane acoustic wave by transversely isotropic cylindrical shells immersed in water. In dorder to illustrate the vailidity of the theory backscattering form functions are compared with the existing results for degenerated problems: the catterings by isotropic shell and transversely isotropic solid cylinder. The unidirectional fiber reinforced boron-aluminum composites are selected as a model of transversely isotropic materials having potential applications in practice. From the resonant scattering analysis of the partial backscattering form functions, the dispersion curves for fluid-borne Stoneley wave, guided wave along the shell, and the lowest three Lamb type waves can be found. The Lamb type dispersions are compared with those of the flat plate. The variation of anisotropy significantly affects the properties of circumferential waves. From these results, it can be possible to identify parametrically the material properties of anisotropic cylindrical targets.

  • Over the past 20 years, Researchers have tried to develop "Integration Model of Cost and Schedule" in construction industry. They suggested various models and techniques, however, it is still required to develop new methodology for AL Form Work in Public Multi-Housing Projects. Accordingly, this research focused on measuring quantity take-offs of on-going projects and analysing the basic process of using the resources(Labor, Material, Plant) related to cost and time data. There are 3 steps of this research : 1) The literature review of previous studies about Integration Model of Cost and Schedule was conducted. 2) Model for integration between cost and schedule was developed. 3) the accuracy of developed model was verified. The results are expected to improve in integrated managing the cost and schedule data of AL form work.

  • Automated magnetic abrasive polishing which can be applied after machining of the mold on a machine tool without unloading is very effective for finishing a complicated injection mold surface. This study aims to realize one step polishing of free form surface with the same machine tool. For this purpose, magnetic flux density according to the change of curvature radii was simulated for selecting polishing conditions and experimental verification was performed with a complicated mold of aluminum alloy. As a result, it was seen by the simulation that the magnetic flux density at a gradual curvature of the mold was higher than at a steep curvature and the higher magnetic flux density produced the better surface roughness in the experimentation. The deviation for the surface roughness of the mold decreased on the whole and the uniform mold surface was obtained after the automated magnetic abrasive polishing.

  • With the PEO(Plasma electrolytic oxidation) surface treatment, the oxide film of aluminum alloy is growing in a short time. The reflectance measurement to find the oxygen atoms in the oxide could be investigated. In order to form a thicker oxide film, the PEO surface treatment should be uniformly controlled in processing time.

  • High purity alumina has been extracted form low grade Korean alunite. Alunite ore was treated by 15% $NH_4OH$ solution, followed by 10% $H_2SO_4$ leaching and metallic impurities such as Fe and Ti were removed by solvent extraction method. Alumina prepared by the extraction process was 99.9% in purity. Hot Petroleum Drying Method has been employed for the preparation of uniformly fine alumina powder, using chemical reagent aluminum sulfate and ammonium aluminum sulfate extrated from Korea alunite. The sinterability of alumina powder prepared by Hot Petroleum Drying Method was shown to be improved in comparison with the one treated by other methods such as ball milling method, but dry pressing was difficult due to the agglomeration of calcined powder. The best slip of alumina powder prepared by Hot Petroleum Drying Method contained a lower soild content than the one treated by other methods. The alumina body formed by soild and drain casting with the former alumina powder showed a higher sintered density.

  • The availability of high-technology systems that use computer-aided design(CAD) and computer-aided machining(CAM) is on the increase. One such system is the Procera system, which fabricates an all-ceramic crown composed of a densely sintered, high-purity aluminum oxide coping combined with a compatible veneering porcelain. Strength, precision of fit, esthetics, cementation, and biocompatibility are among the many factors that concern clinicians when fabricating all-ceramic restorations with this system. This paper reviews the long history and background development of technical, laboratory and clinical applications and presents, in summary form, the data from the many studies on the Procera system.

  • This study proposes the construction of 2-3 dimensional attractor system for cutting characteristics evaluation of metals. Also this paper aims to find the optimal cutting conditions of diamond turning machine by measuring surface form and roughness to perform the cutting experiment of metals, which are aluminum, with diamond tool. As well, according to change cutting conditions such as feed rate, using diamond turning machine to perform cutting processing, by measuring cutting force and surface roughness and according to cutting conditions the aluminum about cutting properties. Trajectory changes in the attractor indicated a substantial difference in attractor characteristics. Constructed 2-3 dimensional attractor system in this study can be used for cutting characteristics evaluation of metals.
