This paper presents the results of characteristics of the solid-core and suspension insulators for the reliability estimation. The various analytic techniques. such as ICP, XRD, SEM, EDS, were applied for the purpose. The alumina content of solid-core insulator was less than that of suspension insulator The cristobolite was crystallized only in solid-core insulator. The average pore size of solid-core insulator was larger than that of suspension insulator. However, the numbers of pore were fewer in the solid-core insulator.

This paper was the research of high voltage suspension insulator (400 [kN]) including pottery stone, feldspar, clay and alumina of 17 [wt%]. The slurry was fabricated after ball milling mixed raw materials. Green compacts were made by the extrusion of jiggering method and were sintered at 1300[$^{\circ}C$] for 50 [min.] in the tunnel kiln. The sintered density was reached to 97% of theoretical density, and the bending strength was 1658 [k $g_{f}$/$\textrm{cm}^2$] and hardness and fracture toughness which was measured by ICL( indentation crack length ) method were 1658 (kgf/$\textrm{cm}^2$) and 27.5 [Gpa], respectively. In measurement of tana and insulation break voltage of 400 (kN) porcelain, tan$\delta$ took some numerical value between 17${\times}$10$_{-3}$ and 61${\times}$10$_{-3}$ and insulation break voltage value was 19.9$\pm$1.4 [㎸/mm]. The test was performed to research whether the shape of pin affect a overvoltage break load or not As a consequence, when a pin was designed a pin diameter 51 [mm] with the bottom form of two-step constructed with straight in the suspension insulator, Insulator showed overvoltage break load 52 [ton] of the highest value and reflected a fine characteristic in aged deterioration test which is one of the accelerated aging test. Also it could be confirmed a fine characteristic through performing the test that electrical property of insulator was established correctly in accordance with IEC 60383-1 standards.s.

The suspension insulators are subjected to harsh environments in service for a long time. The long-term reliability of tile insulators is required for both mechanical and electrical performances. This study describes some basic performance tests and accelerated aging test by cool-heat cycling methods and thermal mechanical performance test methods on alumina porcelain insulators (new and aged) used for transmission line in KOREA. There was no fail in electrical and mechanical performance tests such as a high voltage strength, a flashover voltage, and an impact strength in all samples. But in the case of accelerating aging tests which have above 9$0^{\circ}C$ temperature gradient, fracture phenomena was happened by a thermal shock in tile aged sample(sample A) with low alumina porcelain body. It was indicated that sample A was more severely aged than other samples. According to results of HRB test and microstructural analysis, it was reasoned that insulator bodies with the matrix reinforced with alumina crystalline phase have advantages over the suppression of crack advance. And cool-heat aging and mechanical thermal ageing tests shows that a temperature gradient is more effective to accelerating than a cycling number.
The electrolyte, $(HO)_2C_6H_2(SO_3Na)_2H_2O $(Tiron), disperses efficiently alumina powder in aqueous media and stable suspensions with 60 vol% solid loading can be prepared. The strong adsorption of this additive is mainly due to the ability of the molecule to form chelate rings with the particle surface but electrostatic interactions between the surface charge and the anionic dispersant strongly influence the amount of Tiron adsorbed. By using a cationic exchange route to substitute the counter ion which neutralizes the sulfonate groups, new molecules of dispersant have been prepared, either with mineral cations as $Li^+,\; Na+^,\; NH_4^\;+$, or with organic cations as counter ion but organic counter ions lead to less to less viscous suspensions than $Na^+$ in particular when the number of carbon atoms of the aliphatic chain increases from 1 to 3.

The paper provides the results of microstructure analysis and dielectricproperties of porcelain suspension insulators. The evaluation of characteristics was also made as a function of the manufacturers and fabricated years for the experimental specimens which had been used in real distribution lines. Even though the series A contained higher alumina contents than the series B, the densification of series A was lower than that of series B, resulting from much porosity. The microstructure investigation confirmed that series A had much porosity than series B. The series A contained quartz $(SiO_2),\; mullite\; (Al_6Si_2O_{13}),\; corundum(Al_2O_3),\; and cristobalite\; (SiO_2)$ phases. However, the series B had no cristobalite phase which had very high thermal expansion coefficient. Also, the tan$\delta$of series A was more abruptly increased than that of series B as increasing temperature. The elevated temperature may make much expansion of cristobalite crystal than other crystals, resulting in crack and puncture inside cap during the summer days.
The settling concentration of fine suspended solid particles(alumina(Al$_2$O$_3$) and quartz(SiO$_2$)) is investigated with the physico-chemical effects(initial concentration, pH and NaCl). Laboratory tests have confirmed the significant influence of increasing initial concentration and salinity which can lead to flocculation due to the intermolecular attraction. Furthermore, the influence of the pH value on the concentration-time corves of alumina has been on firmed. Besides a numerical model to predict the behaviour of cohesive deposit under still water is analyzed by solving the unsteady one-dimensional diffusion-advection equation with a explicit, implicit, Crank-Nicolson and finite difference scheme. The model predicts the existence of an equilibrium concentration. Application of the model with implicit centered difference to data from settling experiments shows a similar distribution.
The elimination and erosion of cohesive sediments in port and reservoir water can so far be processed only with mechanical evacuation methods under extreme energy expenditure. The so-called flushing jets do not serve the purpose because they cannot set the material spaciously in motion despite high shear stresses at the bed. Therefore this study aims to examine the resuspension of the deposited fine material($Al_{2}O_3$) under presence of gas bubbles in order to decreased cohesive sediments in multipurpose dam, port and lakes. In the case of laboratory trial important parameters considered are supplied amount of air and the consolidation time of the solid materials. With increasing gas content alumina remains in suspension at high pH values in the laboratory test, where the particles fall mote rapidly without air addition.
This study investigated the fouling behavior of $Al_2O_3$ colloids on polyethylene microfiltration membrane. To examine the effect of operation variation on fouling, operating pressure was increased from 0.49 to 1.96 bar along with time elapses and then was reduced to 0.49 bar reversely. A hysteresis behavior was observed in the membrane permeate flux over pressure, revealing different fluxes at the same pressure according to the pressure control type, increasing and decreasing. Permeate resistance and its rate of increase was higher in the decreasing pressure cycle than in the increasing pressure cycle. At the initial period of filtration, fouling mechanism for the both cycles was governed by the cake filtration. The degree of fouling was higher in the decreasing pressure cycle compared with in the increasing pressure cycle.
The permeate flux decline on microfiltration capillary membrane operation was investigated with inorganic colloidal solutions. The permeate flux of the alumina solution is two times higher in average than that of the bentonite solution. The flux decline with increase in operation time was less in the alumina solution than in the bentonite solution. The rate of initial flux decline until 10 min was higher on the bentonite solution over the alumina solution. The decline in permeate flux was due to both the cake formation and the pore blocking. The latter effect was higher in the operation of the bentonite solution. In comparing the ratio of each fouling component to the total fouling fur the $1.0\;kg_f/cm^2$ TMP condition, complete blocking was $9.35\%$, standard blocking was about $6.82\%$ and cake filtration was $83.83\%$, respectively. With the increase in cross flow velocity, the permeate flux increased by $6.0\%$ for the alumina solution and by 14.0 for the bentonite solution. With the increase in average pore size fromm $0.24\;{\mu}m\;to\;0.34\;{\mu}m$, the permeate flux increases 1.61 times for the alumina solution and 1.76 times far the bentonite solution.
