The various electromagnetic based actuation(EMA) methods have been proposed for actuating microrobot. The advantage of EMA is that it can provide wireless driving to microrobot. In this reason a lot of researchers have been focusing on the EMA driven microrobot. This paper proposed a swimming microrobot driven by external alternating magnet field which is generated by two pairs of Helmholtz coils. The microrobot has a fish-like shape and consists of a buoyant robot body, a permanent magnet, and a fin. The fin is directly linked to the permanent magnet and the magnet is swung by the alternating magnet field, which makes the propulsion and steering power of the robot. In this paper, firstly, we designed the locomotive mechanism of the microrobot boy EMA. Secondly, we set up the control system. Finally, we demonstrated the swimming robot and evaluated the performance of the microrobot by the experiments.
Theoretical considerations on a giant magneto-impedance (GMI) effect in amorphous ribbons (i.e., thin films) have been made in terms of the expressions of effective permeability and impedance derived in the frame of classical electrodynamics and ferromagnetism. The dependence of GMI effect on the external do magnetic field (H$\_$ext/) and the frequency of alternating current are simulated and discussed in the knowledge of energy conversion consisting of the current energy loss, the ferromagnetic energy consumption, and the magnetic energy storage in the film. The obtained results are summarized as follow: (a) As frequency f< 20 ㎒, the real part of effective permeability (${\mu}$′) changes slightly. The peak of the ${\mu}$′curve always locates at H$\_$ext/=H$\_$ani/ - the anisotropy field. However, the peak value of ${\mu}$′ tends to increase with increasing frequency in the frequency range of 11-20 ㎒. (b) In the frequency range, f= 21-23 ㎒, a negative peak additionally appears. Meanwhile, both the positive and negative peak values rapidly increase with increasing frequency and their peak positions shift towards a high H$\_$ext/. (c) The positive peak value of ${\mu}$′ starts to decrease at f= 29 ㎒ and its negative peak does so at about 35 ㎒. Then, both peaks keep such a tendency and their peak positions move to high H$\_$ext/, as increasing frequency. (d) The dependence of the imaginary part of effective permeability (${\mu}$") on the external dc magnetic field and the frequency of the alternating field indicates that there is only one peak involved in ${\mu}$" for the whole frequency range. (e) The impedance vs. magnetic field curves at various frequencies show that there is a critical value of frequency around f= 18-19 ㎒ where the transition between two frequency regimes occurs; the one (low frequency) in which ${\mu}$′ predominantly contributes to the GMI effect and the other (high frequency) in which ${\mu}$" determines the GMI effect.
We demonstrated heat generation efficiency of the magnetic hyperthermia system to find optimal condition using gelatin tissue phantom. Magnetic hyperthermia induction can be used to make heat generation with different concentration of $Fe_3O_4$ iron oxide inside tissue phantom and magnetically labeled cells by applying AC magntic field at a frequency of 145 kHz. It was observed that the maximum temperature achieved in the magnetic gelatin tissue phantom increased with the concentration of $Fe_3O_4$ iron oxide and alternating magnetic field intensity. Results were discussed with respect to further optimization of therapeutic technique for biomedical application with modified functional nanoparticles.
Spatially rotating magnetic fields have been observed in the solar wind and in the Earth's magnetopause as well as in reversed field pinch (RFP) devices. Such field configurations have a similarity with extended current layers having a spatially varying plasma pressure instead of the spatially varying guide field. It is thus expected that magnetic reconnection may take place in a rotating magnetic field no less than in an extended current layer. We have investigated the spontaneous evolution of a collisionless plasma system embedding a rotating magnetic field with a two-and-a-half-dimensional electromagnetic particle-in-cell (PIC) simulation. In magnetohydrodynamics, magnetic flux can be decreased by diffusion in O-lines. In kinetic physics, however, an asymmetry of the velocity distribution function can generate new magnetic flux near O- and X-lines, hence a dynamo effect. We have found that a magnetic-flux-reducing diffusion phase and a magnetic-flux-increasing dynamo phase are alternating with a certain period. The temperature of the system also varies with the same period, showing a similarity to sawtooth oscillations in tokamaks. We have shown that a modified theory of sawtooth oscillations can explain the periodic behavior observed in the simulation. A strong guide field distorts the current layer as was observed in laboratory experiments. This distortion is smoothed out as magnetic islands fade away by the O-line diffusion, but is soon strengthened by the growth of magnetic islands. These processes are all repeating with a fixed period. Our results suggest that a rotating magnetic field configuration continuously undergoes deformation and relaxation in a short time-scale although it might look rather steady in a long-term view.
The ac loss is an important issue in the design of high-Tc superconducting power devices such as transformers and cables. In these devices many Bi-2223 tapes are closely stacked together and exposed to alternating magnetic fields that can have different orientations with respect to a tape. In such arrangement the magnetization loss is influenced by the screening current induced in adjacent tapes and thus different from that in a single tape. This stacking effect was experimentally investigated by measuring the magnetization loss in a stack, which consists of a number of tapes. First the magnetization loss in the single tape was measured in order to confirm the reliability of the loss data measured in the stack. The results for the single tape coincide well will the loss characteristics described in other previous works. For the stack In parallel and longitudinal magnetic fields the measured loss is Independent of both the number of tapes and stacking type. The longitudinal magnetization loss Is well explained rather by the slab model for decoupled filaments. For the tall stack in perpendicular field the measured loss at low fields is greatly decreased, compared to the loss of the single tape. However the loss at high fields is unaffected. These loss behaviors in the tall stack are well described by the slab model for full coupling.
The alternating current (AC) conductivity in semiconductor crystals with an open-core screw dislocation is studied in the current work. The screw dislocation in crystalline media results in an effective potential field which affects the electronic transport properties of the system. Therefore, from a technological view point, it is interesting to investigate properties of AC conductivity at frequencies of a few terahertz. To quantify the screw-induced potential effect, we calculated the AC conductivity of dislocated crystals using the Kubo formula. The conductivity showed peaks within the terahertz frequency region, where the amplitude of the AC conductivity was large enough to be measured in experiments. The measurable conductivity peaks did not arise in dislocation-free crystals threaded by a magnetic flux tube. These results imply different conductivity mechanisms in crystals with a screw dislocation than those threaded by a magnetic flux tube, despite the apparent similarity in their electronic eigenstates.

Alternating current (AC) losses of two Bi-2223 ([Bi, Pb]: Sr: Ca: Cu: O = 2:2:2:3) tapes [(Tape I, un-twist-pitch) and the other with a twist-pitch of 10 mm (Tape II)] were measured and compared. These samples, produced by the powder-in-(Ag) tube (PIT) method, are multi-filamentary. Also, it's produced by non-twist and different twist pitch (8, 10, 13, 30, 50 and 70 mm). The critical current measurement was carried out under the environment in liquid Nitrogen and in zero-field by 4-probe method. Susceptibility measurements were conducted while cooling in a magnetic field. Flux loss measurements were conducted as a function of ramping rate, frequency and field direction. The AC flux loss increases as the twist-pitch of the tapes decreased, in agreement with the Norris Equation. Neutron-diffraction measurements have been carried out investigate the crystal structure, magnetic structures, and magnetic phase transitions in Bi-2223([Bi, Pb]:Sr:Ca:Cu:O)
The internet of things (IoT) technology is a key component for the advent of 4th industrial revolution, which is the network of home appliances, infrastructures, and vehicles to remotely investigate these systems. For the operation of compact IoT devices, batteries are widely used as electric power, and the limited lifetime of batteries inevitably leads to periodic replacement. Magneto-mechano-electric (MME) generators may be alternatives to batteries inside the IoT devices by converting stray magnetic field into electric energy, since we are always surrounded by ambient alternating current (AC) magnetic fields induced from electric power transmission lines everywhere. This article reviews the recent domestic research progress in high-performance MME generators and their application field for IoT and electronic devices.
It is necessary to measure precisely the magnetic characteristics of electrical steel sheets under rotating magnetic fields, to obtain an accurate numerical performance analysis of electric machines made of electrical steel sheets. In this paper, the two dimensional magnetic characteristics of an electrical steel sheet are measured and explained under rotating magnetic fields using a two-axes-excitation type single sheet tester (SST). Through experiments, the magnetic properties, under rotating magnetic fields, of a non-oriented and grain oriented electrical steel sheet were measured respectively. In addition, the iron losses due to not only the alternating magnetic fields, but also rotating magnetic fields were measured. These experimentally measured results can evidently be applied to the analysis of iron losses in electrical machines.
