  • In applying phenolic composites in the marine market, Mech-Tool Engineering Ltd. U.K., for instance, they developed, based on their fire approval certificated technologies, many products such as bulkheads for boats, firewalls, blastwalls, blastrelief, escape route or tunnels, small modules, or safety havens and so on. These are one of very best applications with phenolic composites which may inspire you another fire protecting tools of your new products for our societies as well as those products.

  • Communication network in KTX (Korea Train eXpress), the express train system, has to transmit status variables periodically within tens of seconds and real-time control informations which has short reply like status transition or alarm. KTX uses $Tornad^*$ (TOken Ring Network Alsthom Device) network for this purpose. This network can send and receive messages which enable express train applications embedded in intelligence boards to communicate by itself. Layer 1, 2 of $Tornad^*$ is implemented with differential manchester encoding and IEEE 802.4 standard(token bus standard) respectively. To implement layer 1 and 2, we implemented twisted pair modem using FPGA for layer 1 and used MC68824 from Motorola for layer 2. MC68824 bus arbitration and memory controller is implemented using CPLD.

  • "Phenolic composites", one of safety composites, was also chosen to build boats in England. One of the authors, Mr. Forsdyke and his researcher, Dr. Orpin describe how phenolic composites were chosen as construction material for marine application. The reader can get very good understandings from design point of view through this paper.his paper.

  • The Friction Brake Pad of High Speed Train is the most important parts in brake system, which is usually made of Cu-based Sintered friction material. This study has been carried out about the formulation effects of sintered friction material and made lots of sample brake pads. Then, we have done the performance test of the developed product by using full scale inertia Dynamo-meter. This performance test (braking speed 300km/h) was conducted as GEC Alsthom Standard test procedure and High Speed Brake Test (braking speed 350km/h) was done at "Poli" in Italy. The friction properties of this product was almost identical with the brake pad which is currently used to TGV. And the temperature of brake disk on braking speed 350Km/h was a little higher.

  • KTX train system is composed of TORNAD* network for transmitting information of train's internal equipments and OBCS which proceed information within train. OBCS of one trainset consisted of 28 equipments takes intelligent and dynamic composition according to equipment handling, train command and control flow. Each OBCS which is installed within trainset handle and supervise mutually action information about equipments, transmit it to driver to transmit information about train operation and preventive management. This mutual supervision and information transmission use KTX TORNAD* network system. TORNAD* network system is the one which is uniquely developped by GEC ALSTHOM, the KTX trainset manafacturing provider and this field is excluded from technical know-how transfer item. Through the research on analysis method of KTX TORNAD* system data structure which is operating on Seoul-Pusan Line, I hope that this thesis can contribute to train network system's standardization after applying it to improvement of train network system maintenance, enhancing quality of train service and applying it to future Korean rolling stock network system development.

  • Other than in the fields of rolling stock and marine, in England, UK, Phenolic Composites (herein after, PCs) have been significantly utilized to fire protecting panels in construction, in particular, in architectures. In general, indeed, so-called "Plastic" or "Synthesized Resins" have been applied successfully in our societies all over the world, however, once, when ignited from somewhat reason, they burn much easily generating large amount of "SMOKE" from their nature of petroleum-borne materials as a matter of fact, people have forgotten about it. "SMOKE" caused many fire accidents horror tragedies as everyday people know today. The experts in this field such as PC engineers, researchers and others can take their responsibilities to explain it, persuade it and realize "Safer Environment for People" with well-experienced and technology innovated PCs. In this paper, the co-authors, collaborating UK and Japan, are making efforts to report how the PCs work good jobs to our societies showing some successful track records in construction or architecture fields in UK. How about on this matter in Japan\ulcorner "SMOKE fire" is always waiting fur us. We should stop smoking and SMOKE fire, in our public places. We should stop smoking and SMOKE fire, in our public places.

  • "Phenolic composite", one of safety composites was chosen to build rolling stock in England while it was applied to building materials in London Underground facilities. This paper was written by Mr. Denver E. Brown. He emphasizes, from visibility and toxicity points of view, phenolic is the best and Mr. Forsdyke says, there is no question, passenger's lives are No. 1 issue, material recycling is not No.1! not No.1!
