  • By using EEG and HRV, subjects were estimated on their psychological and physiological reaction when reading psychrometric chart in 7 point century font, in an environmental test room in the condition of temperature 25[$^{\circ}C$], relative humidity 50[RH%], air current speed 0.02[m/sec], giving variation in illuminance to 0.1, 300, 600, 1000, 1300 and 1600[lux]. As a result, it was at 1300[lux] that absolute ${\alpha}$ wave, SMR, SDNN were most vitalized, and also both sides ${\alpha}$ wave asymmetry index, SEF50, HRT, stress and fatigue degree were at the lowest. It was found that a certain illuminance which minimizes psychological stress and fatigue degree while enhancing concentration and task achievement stably does exist.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the changes in electroencephalogram (EEG) coherence and brain wave activity for first-person perspective action observation (1AO) and third-person perspective action observation (3AO) of healthy subjects. Methods: Thirty healthy subjects participated in this study. EEG was simultaneously recorded during the Relax period, the 1AO, and the 3AO, with event-related desynchronization (ERD) and coherence connectivity process calculations for brain wave (alpha, beta and mu) rhythms in relation to the baseline. Results: Participants showed increased coherence in beta wave activity in the frontal and central areas (p<0.05), during the 1AO using right-hand activity. Conversely, the coherence of the alpha wave decreased statistically significantly decreased in the frontocentral and parieto-occipital networks during the observation of the 1AO and the 3AO. The ERD values were larger than 40% for both central regions but were slightly higher for the C4 central region. The high relative power of the alpha wave during 1AO and 3AO was statistically significantly decreased in the frontal, central, parietal, and occipital regions. However, the relative power of the beta wave during 1AO and 3AO was statistically significantly increased in the parietal and occipital regions. Especially during 1AO, the relative power of the beta wave in the C3 area was statistically significantly increased (p<0.05). Conclusion: These findings suggest that 1AO and 3AO action observations are relevant to modifications of specific brain wave coherence and ERD values. EEG cortical activity during action observation may contribute to neural reorganization and to adaptive neuroplasticity in clinical intervention.

  • This study was to investigate the effect of EEG wave type of visual cortex on conjugate movement of eyeball according to movement of visual target. Visual evoked potential(VEP) system used the Bio-Pag(production in USA) and recorded to 586 computer. The illumination of test room was 50lux and the visual target was red light dot of 3cm size. The results of dextroversion and levoversion as follows : The visual stimulation waves on the visual cortex have about 71% of delta wave, about 12% of beta wave, about 9% theta wave and about 6% of alpha wave respectively. The dextroversion and levoversion state was similar results on the histogram amplitude of EEG wave, frequency of EEG wave type, EEG wave style and phase diagram of amplitude. Expecially the histogram amplitude of EEG wave appeared almost the Gaussian shape and the phase analysis of amplitude of EEG wave was nearly linear shape. On the fast fourier transform of the amplitude and Hz, the frequency was almost low frequency under 20 Hz, and the dextroversion and levoversion shape was similar results.

  • Objectives : This study aimed to assess the effects of incense smokes of 'Cheung-Woon' on the concentration and EEG in healthy individuals. Methods : A total of 48 healthy volunteers participated in this study. The volunteers were examined with K-MAS, CBT(Corsi block tapping task), and EEG before and after smelling the incense smokes of 'Cheung-Woon'. K-MAS measured the recalled words, and CBT measured the recalled positions and orders of the color boxes. EEG measured the relative power of ${\theta}$ wave, ${\alpha}$ wave, SMR wave, mid-${\beta}$ wave, high-${\beta}$ wave, ${\gamma}$ wave and T(concentraion index T = (SMR wave + mid-${\beta}$ wave) / ${\theta}$ wave). 'Cheung-Woon' consists of 7 herbal powder, known as a useful effect on the concentration and memory. Results : After smelling 'Cheung-Woon', K-MAS were increased significantly(p<0.05). In relative power of ${\theta}$ wave, F4, T3, and P4 were decreased significantly(p<0.05) and P3 was also decreased significantly(p<0.01). In the relative power of ${\alpha}$ wave, SMR wave, and mid-${\beta}$ wave, the values were not significant. In the relative power of high-${\beta}$ wave, Fp1, and P4 were increased significantly(p<0.05). In relative power of ${\gamma}$ wave, T3 were increased significantly (p<0.05). In T value, F4, T3, T4, and P4 were increased significantly(p<0.05) and P3 were also increased significantly(p<0.01). Conclusions : This results show that smelling incense smokes of 'Cheung-Woon' is an effective way of increasing concentration and memory.

  • In zoological research, penetration of light has been reported of the frontal bones of fish, birds, and reptiles, suggesting the existence of physiologically direct photic routes to frontal lobes and/or deep parts of the brain. We studied the influences of frontal exposure to photodiode light on frontal alpha wave and peripheral NK cells. Repetitive exposure of the subject's forehead to a red light diode (660nm) significantly increased the effective amplitude of the frontal alpha waves (using a mean frequency with a range of +1.0 Hz), peripheral NK activity, and the level of CD57-CD16+. Frontal alpha wave activity and the level of CD57-CD16+ increased, suggesting the possibility of a non-invasive procedure for the activation of the frontal lobe and the increase of NK cells. This light is considered to penetrate the frontal bones of humans directly, and to act on the frontal lobe and/or other immunological regulatory centers in the brain, resulting in some neuro-immunological changes.

  • Shear wave velocity of uncemented soil can be expressed as the function of effective stresses when capillary phenomena are negligible. However, the terms of effective stresses are divided into the direction of wave propagation and polarization because stress states are generally anisotropy. The shear wave velocities are affected by ${\alpha}$ parameters and ${\beta}$ exponents that are experimentally determined. The ${\beta}$ exponents are controlled by contact effects of particulate materials (sizes, shapes, and structures of particles) and the ${\alpha}$ parameters are changed by contact behaviors among particles, material properties of particles, and type of packing (i.e., void ratio and coordination number). In this study, consolidation tests are performed by using clay, mica and sand specimens. Shear wave velocities are measured during consolidation tests to investigate the stress-induced and inherent anisotropies by using bender elements. Results show the shear wave velocity depends on the stress-induced anisotropy for round particles. Furthermore, the shear wave velocity is dependent on particle alignment under the constant evvective stress. This study suggests that the shear wave velocity and the shear modulus should be carefully estimated and used for the design and construction of geotechnical structures.

  • In the present study, the effects of non-equilibrium condensation on the drag divergence Mach number with the angle of attack in a transonic 2D moist air flow of NACA0012 are investigated using the TVD finite difference scheme. For the same ${\alpha}$, the maximum upstream Mach number of the shock wave, Mmax, and the size of supersonic bubble decrease with the increase in ${\Phi}_0$. For the same $M_{\infty}$, ${\Phi}_0$, and $T_0$, the length of the non-equilibrium condensation zone ${\Delta}_z$ decreases with increasing ${\Phi}_0$. On the other hand, because of the attenuating effect of non-equilibrium condensation on wave drag, which is related to the interaction between the shock wave and the boundary layer, the drag coefficient $C_D$ decreases with an increase in ${\Phi}_0$ for the same $M_{\infty}$ and ${\alpha}$. For the same ${\alpha}$, $M_D$ increases with increasing ${\Phi}_0$, while $M_D$ decreases with an increase in ${\alpha}$.

  • Taekukkwon was practiced far health previously. The experimental group consisted of undergraduate and graduate students practising in the above disciplines at Myong Ji University. The group consisted of three female and three male students and the aim of this research was to measure the brain wave change for opened and closed eyes. The result of this research are as follows. Firstly, when students were subjected to basic open eye brain wave tests, beta-waves displayed for all regions of the brain. In the frontal region fast beta-waves were displayed and in the central region alpha-waves were displayed. Secondly, in the closed eye brain wave tests, the control group displayed beta-waves in some regions and alpha waves in external and internal regions. For all students\` brain-wave patterns, the amplitude of the alpha-wave was low and the frequency was high. In some students theta-waves were displayed. Taekukkwon practice relaxes the mind and body and helps relieve social stress which shows that taichichuan practices is beneficial. Finally, characteristics of the subjects were mostly type A so the personalities of the subjects were fast and aggressive. This research shows a definite link between personality and personal relationships with beta-waves emissions. So, further research is required in the future to investigate this relationship. The subjects consumed too large amount of foods so it was necessary to change their dietary habits taking into consideration on total calories, fats, and protein. It was also necessary to carrying out nutrition education to the students in emphasizing appropriate attitudes in general health and dietary behavior.
