  • Let A be the mod p Steenrod algebra for p an arbitrary odd prime and S the sphere spectrum localized at p. In this paper, some useful propositions about the May spectral sequence are first given, and then, two new nontrivial homotopy elements ${\alpha}_1{\jmath}{\xi}_n\;(p{\geq}5,n\;{\geq}\;3)\;and\;{\gamma}_s{\alpha}_1{\jmath}{\xi}_n\;(p\;{\geq}\;7,\;n\;{\geq}\;4)$ are detected in the stable homotopy groups of spheres, where ${\xi}_n\;{\in}\;{\pi}_{p^nq+pq-2}M$ is obtained in [2]. The new ones are of degree 2(p - 1)($p^n+p+1$) - 4 and 2(p - 1)($p^n+sp^2$ + sp + (s - 1)) - 7 and are represented up to nonzero scalar by $b_0h_0h_n,\;b_0h_0h_n\tilde{\gamma}_s\;{\neq}\;0\;{\in}\;Ext^{*,*}_A^(Z_p,\;Z_p)$ in the Adams spectral sequence respectively, where $3\;{\leq}\;s\;<\;p-2$.

  • $Li_2Sr_{1-x}Eu_xSiO_{4-{\alpha}}N_{\alpha}$ ($Li_2SrSiO_{4-{\alpha}}N_{\alpha}:Eu^{2+}$) phosphors were synthesized by using a solid state reaction (SSR) method with submicron $Si_3N_4$ and nano $Si_3N_4$ powders as the sources of Si and N, and the optical properties of those phosphors were studied. The studied phosphors showed efficient excitation characteristics over the broad range from 230 to 530 nm. Also, They showed broad emission spectra covering a range from 500 to 700 nm, with a peak at 568 nm, which was shifted longer wavelength by 18 nm as compared with that of commercial $YAG:Ce^{3+}$. Combined with a 450 nm blue LED chip, the results support the application of the $Li_2SrSiO_{4-{\alpha}}N_{\alpha}:Eu^{2+}$ phosphor as a luminescent material for a white-light source thaat is warmer than the commercial $YAG:Ce^{3+}$ white-light source. In addition, the $Li_2SrSiO_{4-{\alpha}}N_{\alpha}$ phosphors prepared from a submicron $Si_3N_4$ powder was found to emit a previously unreported self-activated luminescence in $Li_2SrSiO_{4-{\alpha}}N_{\alpha}$.

  • The main aim of the article is to introduce new generalizations of Fredholm and Browder classes of spectra when the underlying Hilbert space is not necessarily separable and study their properties. To achieve the goal the notions of 𝛼-Browder operators, 𝛼-B-Fredholm operators, 𝛼-B-Browder operators and 𝛼-Drazin invertibility have been introduced. The relation of these classes of operators with their corresponding weighted spectra has been investigated. An equivalence of 𝛼-Drazin invertible operators with 𝛼-Browder operators and 𝛼-B-Browder operators has also been established. The weighted Browder spectrum of the sum of two bounded linear operators has been characterised in the case when the Hilbert space (not necessarily separable) is a direct sum of its closed invariant subspaces.

  • We measured and analyzed the brain waves to observe the characteristics of human drowsiness. The basic method is to analyze the EEG(Electroencephalography) signals from subjects according to the frequency bands. It has been reported that alpha waves are related to a wakefulness state, an eye closure state and a state that begins to sleep. In this study, therefore, we restricted the frequency band for analyzing to between 8 and 13Hz called brain's alpha waves. We observed which components had a stronger influence on human drowsiness among the restricted frequency band and represented the experimental results to analyze using the power spectrum method.

  • MB4-03, an $\alpha$-amylase inhibitor was isolated from the culture broth of Streptomyces sp. DMCJ-49 and purified through ion-exchange chromatography, adsorption, and gel filtration. The results of various instrumental analyses showed that the inhibitor was one of oligosaccharides that had glucoses as its major component and that its molecular weight was about 2000. And one methyl group which seemed to be related with the inhibitory activity of this compound was identified. From the CMR spectrum, it was elucidated that this compound was composed of $\alpha$ -D-glucopyranoses which were linked together by $\alpha$ (I -, 4) bond configuration. As the inhibitory effect of this compound was reduced after incubation with $\beta$-amylase, the maltose units was seemed to exist at non-reducing terminal side of it.

  • To develop a technique of theoretical alpha track density calculation for comparison with measured track density, an electrostatic ion spectrometer was specially designed and fabricated. The mobility spectrum of first radon daughter(Po-218) in the range of $0.07{\sim}5.0cm^2/V\;s$ from the radon chamber was measured using-the electrostatic ion spectrometer. Measurement was taken in a radon chamber operated using dry particle free air passed through silica gel, activated charcoal and molecular sieve filters. The mobility of a new-born Po-218 ion measured by the electrostatic ion spectrometer was determined to be $1.92cm^2/V\;s$. A comparison of the theoretical and measured alpha track densities was completed and uncertainties concerning the shape of the spectrum were analyzed. It was found that the discrepancies in track densities are primarily Que to the neglect of wall loss of ions in the theoretical track density calculation.

  • The cysteine 43, potentially important in the activity of O-acetylserine sulfhydrylase (OASS) from Salmonella typhimurium, has been changed to serine. This mutant enzyme (C43S) has been studied in order to gain insight into the structural basis for the binding of inhibitor, substrate and product. UV-visible spectra of C43S exhibit the same spectral change in the presence of OAS as that observed with wild type enzyme, indicating C43S will form an ${\alpha}$-aminoacrylate Schiff base intermediate. At pH 6.5, however, the deacetylase activity of C43S is much higher than wild type enzyme indicating that cysteine 43 plays a role in stabilizing the ${\alpha}$-aminoacrylate intermediate. The fluoroscence spectrum of C43S exhibits a ratio of emission at 340 to 502 nm of 16.9, reflecting the lower fluorescence of PLP and indicating that the orientation of cofactor and tryptophan are different from that of the wild type enzyme. The emission spectrum of C43S in the presence of OAS gives two maxima at 340 and 535 nm. The 535 nm emission is attributed to the fluoroscence of the ${\alpha}$-aminoacrylate intermediate. The visible circular dichroic spectrum was similar to wild type enzyme, but the negative effect observed at 530~550 nm and the molar ellipicity values for the mutant are decreased by about 50% compared to wild type enzyme. The circular dichroic and fluoroscence studies suggest binding of the cofactor is less asymmetric in C43S than in the wild type enzyme.

  • At low normal stress levels tensile strength of sand varies with either saturation or suction of soil in an up-and-down manner with a peak tensile strength that can occur at any degree of saturation. A theory that accurately predicts tensile strength of wet sand is presented. A closed form expression for tensile strength unifies tensile strength characteristics in all three water retention regimes: pendular, funicular, and capillary. Three parameters are employed in the theory; namely, the Internal friction angle (at low normal stress) ${\phi}_t$, the inverse value of the air-entry pressure ${\alpha}$, and the pore size spectrum parameter n. It is shown that the magnitude of peak tensile strength is dominantly controlled by the ${\alpha}$ parameter. The saturation at which peak tensile strength occurs only depends on the pore size spectrum parameter n.

  • Given a faithful flow ${\alpha}$ on a $C^*$-algebra A, when A is ${\alpha}$-simple we will show that the closed subalgebra of A consisting of elements with non-negative Arveson spectra is maximal if and only if the crossed product of A by ${\alpha}$ is simple. We will also show how the general case can be reduced to the ${\alpha}$-simple case, which roughly says that any flow with the above maximality is an extension of a trivial flow by a flow of the above type in the ${\alpha}$-simple case. We also propose a condition of essential maximality for such closed subalgebras.

  • We synthesized new ${\alpha}$-amidoketenes using dehydrochlorination from anilines, triethylamine and malonyl dichloride under $0^{\circ}C$. The utility of ketenes in both laboratory and industrial practice was quickly recognized, and these species have been extensively utilized, including as pharmaceutical intermediates and anti-cancer agents. All synthetic process from anilines to ${\alpha}$-amidoketenes could be carried out by one-pot reaction. Synthetic ketenes 2a~f were identified using NMR and IR spectrum. Formation of ketenes was undertaken with dropping of malonyl dichloride at $0^{\circ}C$ in methylene chloride for 0.5~4 h. Using malonyl dichloride was better than using diethyl malonate as a synthetic reagents for the ketenes.
