  • Long-term allowable compressive Loads of PHC piles were analyzed based on qualification tests results by 17 small and medium PHC pile producing companies and product specifications by 6 major and 17 small and medium PHC pile producing companies. At the present stage, an average long-term allowable compressive load of PHC pile was designed at 70% level from current design data, and safety factor of 4.0 was applied to long-term allowable compressive loads of PHC pile despite of its excellent quality. Most quality standards of PHC pile are specified at KS F 4306. But compressive strength test method of spun concrete is specified at KS F 2454. As a result of analyzing quality test data supplied by each manufacturer, all quality test results showed higher performances than standard values. Therefore, it was considered that the capacity of PHC pile can be used up to the maximum allowable compressive load of PHC pile when PHC pile is designed.

  • In this study, the track-bridge interaction analysis was performed using an analytical model considering the track structure, thereby taking into account the linear conditions (R=650 m, cant variation $160{\pm}60mm$) and the dynamic characteristics of the bridge. As a result of the study, the allowable speed on the example bridge considered was calculated at 200 km/h based on vertical deflection, vertical acceleration, and irregularity in longitudinal level, but was also evaluated at 170km/h based on the coefficient of derailment, wheel load reduction, and lateral displacement of the rail head. It is considered desirable to set the speed 170km/h to the speed limit in order to secure the safety of both the bridge and the track. It is judged that there will be no problems with ensuring rail protection and train stability in the speed band.

  • It is common to assume identical allowable safety factors in static strength defined by mean stress and in fatigue, defined by stress amplitude. Under the load with asymmetrical cycles the safety factor is not the same. In this paper, with the consideration of unequal allowable safety (actors a general method for estimating fatigue reliability of a machine element under a combined state of stress is derived based on the theory proposed by Prof. Kececioglu and a normal distribution. The calculation of fatigue reliability fur limited life is discussed with example.

  • In 2000, Standard Design Loads for Building was changed especially in seismic load. According to the change, seismic-resisting capacity of deteriorated apartment houses has to be reestimated. This research is to propose seismic-strengthening and improving methods of structural efficiency of RC deteriorated apartment houses. The analysis models were shear-wall system(36/58/79$m^{2}$) and beam-column system(11/19/25py) which were constructed in early 1980 and didn't consider seismic load. The definite methods are addition of shear walls and lightening of load. The story-drifts of shear wall systems exceed allowable story-drifts so that two methods was applied. The story-drifts of beam-columns system satisfy allowable story-drifts, thus the latter is applied. The seismic-resisting capacity of these systems was improved by the two methods. This research will be helpful to remodel deteriorated apartment houses.

  • Design of general steel structure had applied and achieve elastic design concept mainly so far. Because elastic design supposes that whole structure complies with elasticity formula as that achieve via allowable stress of material is concept that calculate stress distribution of construction about action external load and estimate load of when the maximum stress reaches equally with allowable stress that is established beforehand by maximum safety load of the structure. But, absence that compose actuality structure by deal with external load increase small success surrender and structure hardness falls and tell structure in limit state finally on the whole as showing complicated conduct by interference between these breakdown at buckling by compression. Examined closely about conduct of place since initial buckling through carbon vocal cords transformation finite element analysis series (ANSYS) that place mending condition supposes case that is boundary condition in this investigation.

  • The object of this study is to ensure the stability of flat freight cars using vibration performance test and static load test of body structures. We examined the flat car though static load test and dynamic characteristics analysis related traveling stability and vibration performance. In the results of static load test of body structures for flat car, all structures satisfied allowable stress of materials. The vibration performance test was satisfied with allowable standards. Although flat car exceed speed a little at some speed interval, it was estimated that the cause was not cars but rail.

  • Recently, safety evaluation of structures has received great concern in this country. One major problem in safety evaluation is that the results are often quite different depending upon evaluation authority. This is mainly due to arbitrary selection of various modification factors when employing allowable stress method for safety evaluation, The purpose of the present study is, therefore, to establish a rational method to determine the modification factors, especially the stress modification factor and the deterioration modification factor based on visual examination. It is thought that the proposed method yields a rational and consistent result for safety evaluation and may efficiently be used for realistic evaluation of load capacity of bridge structures.

  • The restoration of foundations supporting the immense load of the stone pagoda at Mireuksa Temple Site prioritizes securing its structural stability. But so far, rammed earth construction is still not easy to determine the structural stability. This paper aims to emphasize that a scientific experimental study was conducted on a rammed earth construction, to identify its methodology and obtain objective data about structural stability of the foundation work. An experimental study fabricated specimens from the soil that had been removed during the excavation survey, determined the allowable bearing capacity through plate load tests, and compared the results with the predicted stress after reassembly of the stone pagoda to estimate the structural stability. Then, the repair method was selected based on the experimental study result. The evaluation method of the restoration of foundations consisted of an examination of the allowable bearing capacity and settlement. The allowable bearing of the reinforced foundation was more than twice the contact pressure under the stacked stones of the pagoda. The possibility of settlement of the rammed earth foundation soil layer during the pagoda assembly is expected to be very low because the settlement amount of the reformed soil layer is less than half of the settlement of the stabilized existing soil layer.

  • In this paper, connection strength between facing block and tie-bar was investigated through experimental study with varying in-fill material such as concrete, soil and crushed stone. Also, connection strength between anchor block and tie-bar was investigated with varying in-fill material. According to the experimental results, in case of using in-fill concrete, connection strength between facing block and tie-bar was larger than allowable tension load of tie-bar. Whereas in case of using in-fill soil or crushed stone, connection strength between facing block and tie-bar was less or similiar to allowable tension load of tie-bar. Connection strength between anchor block and tie-bar for which crushed stone was used as in-fill material, was larger than allowable tension load of tie-bar.

  • This paper focuses on the study of complete dynamic modeling and maximum dynamic load carrying capacity computation of N-flexible links and N-flexible joints mobile manipulator undergoing large deformation. Nonlinear dynamic analysis relies on the Timoshenko theory of beams. In order to model the system completely and precisely, structural and joint flexibility, nonlinear strain-displacement relationship, payload, and non-holonomic constraints will be considered to. A finite element solution method based on mixed method is applied to model the shear deformation. This procedure is considerably more involved than displacement based element and shear deformation can be readily included without inducing the shear locking in the element. Another goal of this paper is to present a computational procedure for determination of the maximum dynamic load of geometrically nonlinear manipulators with structural and joint flexibility. An effective measure named as Moment-Height Stability (MHS) measure is applied to consider the dynamic stability of a wheeled mobile manipulator. Simulations are performed for mobile base manipulator with two flexible links and joints. The results represent that dynamic stability constraint is sensitive when calculating the maximum carrying load. Furthermore, by changing the trajectory of end effector, allowable load also changes. The effect of torsional spring parameter on the joint deformation is investigated in a parametric sensitivity study. The findings show that, by the increase of torsional stiffness, the behavior of system approaches to a system with rigid joints and allowable load of robot is also enhanced. A comparison is also made between the results obtained from small and large deformation models. Fluctuation range in obtained figures for angular displacement of links and end effector path is bigger for large deformation model. Experimental results are also provided to validate the theoretical model and these have good agreement with the simulated results.
