This paper proposes a solution to the problems of constructing and installing sway braces for existing standpipes in narrow spaces and pits. The study develops a floor-fixed sway brace for a narrow space that can support the ground area under horizontal seismic loads (X-axis, Y-axis) as well as vertical seismic loads (Z-axis). The results of structural analysis using SolidWorks simulation showed that the eccentric load was generated in the first design according to the anchored position along the vertical direction, and the problem of exceeding the allowable stress of the material along the horizontal and vertical directions. In the second design model, deformation caused by the eccentric load along the vertical direction, similar to the first design model, did not occur. The maximum strain rate was 0.17%, which is approximately 12.84% less than the first design model (Maximum strain rate of 13.01%). It was confirmed that the structural stability and durability improved. Compressive and tensile load testing of the prototypes showed that all of them meet the performance criteria of the standard.
Long term flow measurement and water quality analysis data need to determine the target and allowable load for each basin in Total Water Pollution Load Management System (TWPLMS). The Load Duration Curve (LDC) is analyzed the relationship between flow data and water quality, and evaluates the pollutant load characterization by flow conditions. LDC of Kyeongancheon is created by the Flow Duration Curve (FDC) that was analyzed 8-day interval measured flow data from 2006 to 2015 and numeric water quality target in Kyeongancheon. As a result of this study, it is necessary to manage the point source pollutant because the numeric water quality target is not satisfied in the low flows. Also the numeric water quality target has been exceed for four months from March to June of the year and continuous and systematic watershed management is required to satisfy the numeric water quality target.
In this research the behavior of a new type of a single pile under lateral loading and against slope sliding is studied. Especially, the section of a new pile is determined throughout experiments, and the single pile behavior under lateral loading and the effect of improvement in slope stability by using new type of pile (gear-shaped) were studied. As a result, it is known that maximum deflection of gear-shaped pile is far smaller than that of traditional PC circular pile for the same lateral loading. And lateral load of gear-shaped pile at allowable deflection was bigger than that of PC circular pile. From the comparison between two hypes of piles, it can be seen that the degree of improvement of safety factor in slope was higher in gear-shaped pile than that of PC pile under the same condition, and it results in the reduction of the number of stabilizing piles in a slope.

Damages of the main engine aftmost bearing and the after stern tube bearing tend to increase due to misalignment. And as the shafting system becomes stiffer due to the large engine power, whereas the hull structure becomes more flexible due to optimization by using high tensile thin steel plates. And this is the reason that more sophisticated shaft alignments are required. In this study, the optimum shafting alignment calculation was carried out, considering the thermal expansion effect, exploiting the sensitivity index, which indicates the reasonable position of forward intermediate shaft bearing for shaft alignment. and as the main subject in this study, the elastic deformation on intermediate shaft and main engine bearings occurred by vertical load of shaft mass were examined thoroughly and analyzed allowable load of bearings, reaction influence numbers of all bearings. As the result, a reliable optimum shafting alignment was derived theoretically. To verify these results, they were referred to the engine maker's technical information of main engine installation and being used shafting alignment programs of both Korean Register of Shipping and Det Norske Veritas, their reliability were reviewed.

The KMRR 4-wheel crane which has a span of 30.6m long shall be designed to maintain its structural integrity during and after seismic shocks. Horizontal and vertical FRS for OBE and SSE conditions at the crane support are after seismic shock. Horizontal and vertical FRS for analysis are 4% for OBE and 7% for SSE. The crane consists of girder, saddle main and auxiliary trolley, and necessaries. They are modeled as beam elements and lumped masses for the following 4 cases ; trolley at center of the crane with and without the rated load, trolley at end with and without the rated load. The static analysis as well as the linear dynamic analysis including frequency and response spectrum analysis are performed for the seismic qualification of the crane using the Finite Element Method. For the simplicity of the analysis, the decoupling criteria are considered for the crane rope and the crane supporting beams. The main sections of the crane are stiffened until the calculated stresses satisfy the allowable limits. The seismic resultant loads are used to design the seismic restraints of the saddle and the trolley to protect the clue from the seismic uplifting loads the study results have show that the seismic design of the KMRR crane is governed by the OBE condition. not by the SSE condition. This paper briefly describes the analysis procedure used in the seismic design of the KMRR crane, and summarizes the analysis results.
Concrete is deformed by load and subjected to micro damage under allowable deformation because of non-homogeneous property. When micro damage is accumulated, it is cracked and finally fractured. Characterization of AE can be demonstrated the micro damage which it is not discovered from visual observation, and it become known to an advantage that was clearly discriminated from the existing NDT method. This study was carried out the analysis and evaluation of concrete damage by acoustic emission technique. As a results of damage analysis, it was found out that the more concrete strength has increased, the more concrete has subjected to micro damage at lower stress ratio for chylinder specimen, and this is possible only AE method which could be described the brittle properties. Also it was revealed that the kaiser effect and felicity effect were existed in reinforced concrete bending specimens and it is found out that the onset of interface debonding between concrete and steel could be conformed in comparison with felicity ratio, AE activity and load history. From the results of this study, it was conformed that the deteriorative degree of reinforced concrete structure should be evaluated using felicity ratios.
In this study, track dynamic interaction characteristics caused by the vehicle running through transitional section such as bridge abutments were studied using the finite element analysis program. The geometric condition of track was generated by trigonometric function and allowable maximum track irregularity is determined by KORAIL track maintenance criteria. The sub-infrastructure under rail fastener system was modelled by 3D solid elements. To reduce computational cost only half track line is numerically considered and the roller boundary condition was applied to each side of model. In this study, the vehicle-track dynamic interaction analysis was carried out for standard Korean transition section of concrete track and the dynamic behaviors were investigated. The dynamic characteristics considered are wheel load variation, vertical acceleration at body, and maximum Mises stress at each part of transitional section.
Flexural behaviors of the two typical precast beam sections (inverted tee and rectangular) for buildings were investigated and compared. The height of web in the inverted tee beam was generally less than half of beam depth to be adapted to that of the nib in the ends of double-tee where the total building height limited considerably. The inverted-tee beams were designed for a parking live load - 500kgf/$m^2$ and a market - 1,200kgf/$m^2$ from the currently used typical shape of a domestic building site in Korea. The area and bottom dimension of rectangular beams were the same as those of inverted tee beams. These woo beams were also reinforced with a similar strength. following results were obtained from the studies above; 1) the rectangular beam is simpler in production, transportation, and erection, and more economic than the inverted tee beam in the construction test for these two beams with a same dimension and a similar strength, 2) all of the beams considered in the tests were generally failed in values close to those of the strength requirements in ACI Provisions. The ratios of test result to calculated value are averaged to 1.04. One rectangular and one inverted tee beams failed in a value only 2-3% larger than the estimated volue of the Strength Design Methool the results of the Strain Compatibility Method wire slightly more accurate than those of the Strength Design Method, 4) the maximum deflections of all of the beams under the full service loads were less than those of the allowable limit in ACI Code Provisions. The rectangular beams experienced more deflection then inverted tee in the same loading condition and failed with more deflection, and 5) the rectangular and inverted tee beams showed good performances under the condition of service and ultimate loads. However, one inverted tee beams with fm span developed an initial flexural crackings under 88% of the full service load even though they designed to satisfy the ACI tensile stress limit provisions.
The nailed joints in wood construction are commonly designed to resist and carry the lateral load but also subject to withdrawal force like uplift load due to the wind. This research was conducted to evaluate the performance of nailed joint composed of dimension lumber and sheathing materials through the nail withdrawal and unsymmetric double shear joint test, and then compared to current design values. The withdrawal strength was greatly dependant on wood specific gravity, and the withdrawal strength of I-joist with OSB showed higher value in spite of low specific gravity. The maximum withdrawal loads were greater than that of derived current design values about 5 times. The lateral resistance of Japanese larch/OSB nailed joints was higher than that of SPF/OSB nailed joint, and derived allowable lateral strength of nailed joints in this study exceeded the current design values. The failure mode of nailed joints was primarily due to the nail bending and this tendency was notable in SPF/OSB nailed joint.
Current design of pile group is based on the estimation of the overall bearing capacity of a pile group from that of a single pile using a group efficiency. However, the behaviors of a pile group are influenced by various factors such as the method of pile installation, pile-soil-pile interaction, cap-soil-pile interaction, etc. Thus, it is practically impossible to take into account these factors reasonably with the only group efficiency. In this paper, a new method for the design of pile groups is proposed, where the significant factors affecting the behavior of a pile group are considered separately by adopting several efficiencies. Furthermore, in the proposed method, the load transfer characteristics of piles and the difference of pile behaviors with respect to the pile locations in group can be taken into account. The efficiencies for the method are determined using the settlement failure criterion, which is consistent with the concept of allowable settlement fur structures. The efficiencies calculated from the results of existing model tests are presented, and the bearing capacity of a pile group in the other model test is calculated and compared with that from the test result to verify the validity of the proposed method.
