Fouling is one of the critical factors associated with the application of membrane technology in treating palm oil mill effluent (POME), due to the presence of high concentration of solid organic matter, oil, and grease. In order to overcome this, chemical cleaning is needed to enhance the effectiveness of membranes for filtration. The potential use of sodium hydroxide (NaOH), sodium chloride (NaCl), hydrochloric acid (HCl), ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA), and ultrapure water (UPW) as cleaning agents have been investigated in this study. It was found that sodium hydroxide is the most powerful cleaning agent, the optimum conditions that apply are as follows: 3% for the concentration of NaOH, $45^{\circ}C$ for temperature solution, 5 bar operating pressure, and solution pH 11.64. Overall, flux recovery reached 99.5%. SEM images demonstrated that the membrane surface after cleaning demonstrated similar performance to fresh membranes. This is indicative of the fact that NaOH solution is capable of removing almost all of the foulants from PES membranes.
The "optimal" solution for a decision making problem should be the one that best reflects the decision-maker's preference. For MADM (Multi-Attribute Decision-Making) problems, however, finding an optimal solution is difficult, especially when the number of alternatives, or that of attributes is relatively large. Most of the existing mathematical approaches arrive at a final solution on the basis of many unrealistic assumptions, without reflecting the decision-maker's preference structure exactly. To remedy this, some interactive methods have been proposed, but most of them require a large amount of information growing exponentially as the number of alternatives, or that of attributes increases. Therefore it is difficult for the decision-maker to maintain consistency throughout the decision making process. In this paper, an interactive method which finds optimal solutions for deterministic MADM problems with many attributes and alternatives is proposed. Instead of considering all the attributes simultaneously, this method partitions all the attributes into several mutually independent subgroups and considers one of them at each of preordered steps, where the alternatives are eliminated until the optimal one is obtained. The efficiency of the method lies in the fact that the amount of neccessary information is reduced significantly, and even further if a suboptimal solution is acceptable to the decision-maker.ion-maker.
TRH (thyrotropin-releasing hormone) was chemically synthesized utilizing solution phase peptide chemistry for the process development of large scaled synthesis. All the synthetic steps performed in relatively mild conditions, higher yields, easier preparations, minimum racemizations, and separation and purification by recrystallizations.
In this study copper chloride(CuCl$_2$) solution was used as raw material to produce the fine copper oxide powder which has less than 1 $\mu\textrm{m}$ average particle size and has uniform particle size distribution by spray pyrolysis process. In the present study, the effects of reaction temperature, the injection speed of solution and air, the nozzle tip size and the concentration of raw material solution on the properties of produced powder were studied. The structure of the powder became much more compact with increasing the reaction temperature regardless of copper concentration of the raw material solution. The particle size of the powder increased accordingly with increasing the reaction temperature in case of 30 g/$\ell$ copper concentration of the solution. The particle size of the powder increased accordingly, and the surface structure of the powder became more porous with increasing the copper concentration of the raw material solution. When copper concentration in raw material solution was more than 100 g/$\ell$, all produced powder was CuCl regardless of reaction temperatures. When copper concentration in solution was below 30 g/$\ell$ and reaction temperature was higher than 90$0^{\circ}C$, CuO was the main phase. The surface of the powder tended to become porous with increasing the injection speed of solution. Particle size was increased and the surface of the powder showed severely disrupted state with increasing the nozzle tip size. The particle size was decreased and the particle size distribution was more uniform with increasing the air pressure through the nozzle.
Quantum dot light-emitting diodes (QD-LEDs) are emerging as next-generation displays owing to their high color purity, wide color gamut, and solution processability. Enhancing the efficiency of QD-LEDs involves preventing non-radiative recombination mechanisms, such as Auger and interfacial recombination. Generally, ZnO serves as the electron transport layer, which is known for its higher mobility compared to that of organic semiconductors and can lead to excessive electron injection. Some of the injected electrons pass through the quantum dot emissive layer and undergo non-radiative recombination near or within the organic hole transport layer (HTL), resulting in HTL degradation. Therefore, the implementation of electron blocking layers (EBLs) is essential; however, studies on all-solution-processed inverted InP QD-LEDs are limited. In this study, poly(9-vinylcarbazole) (PVK) is introduced as an EBL to mitigate HTL degradation and enhance the emission efficiency of inverted InP QD-LEDs. Using a single-carrier device, PVK was confirmed to effectively inhibit electron overflow into the HTL, even at extremely low thicknesses. The optimization of the PVK thickness also ensured minimal disruption of the hole-injection properties. Consequently, a 1.5-fold increase in the maximum luminance was achieved in the all-solution-processed inverted InP QD-LEDs with the EBL.
Purpose: Given the mixture components - process variables experimental data, we propose the strategy to find the proper combined model. Methods: Process variables are factors in an experiment that are not mixture components but could affect the blending properties of the mixture ingredients. For example, the effectiveness of an etching solution which is measured as an etch rate is not only a function of the proportions of the three acids that are combined to form the mixture, but also depends on the temperature of the solution and the agitation rate. Efficient designs for the mixture components - process variables experiments depend on the mixture components - process variables model which is called a combined model. We often use the product model between the canonical polynomial model for the mixture and process variables model as a combined model. Results: First we choose the reasonable starting models among the class of admissible product models and practical combined models suggested by Lim(2011) based on the model selection criteria and then, search for candidate models which are subset models of the starting model by the sequential variables selection method or all possible regressions procedure. Conclusion: Good candidate models are screened by the evaluation of model selection criteria and checking the residual plots for the validity of the model assumption. The strategy to find the proper combined model is illustrated with examples in this paper.
The overall process, from the pre-treatment of aluminum substrates to the eco-friendly neutral electroless Ni-P plating process, was observed, compared, and analysed. To remove the surface oxide layer on the aluminum substrate and aid Ni-P plating, a zincation process was carried out. After the second zincation treatment, it was confirmed that a mostly uniform Zn layer was formed and the surface oxide of aluminum was also removed. The Ni-P electroless plating films were formed on the secondary zincated aluminum substrate using electroless plating solutions of pH 4.5 and neutral pH 7.0, respectively, while changing the plating bath temperature. When a neutral pH7.0 electroless solution was used, the Ni-P plating layer was uniformly formed even at the plating bath temperature of 50 ℃, and the plating speed was remarkably increased as the bath temperature was increased. On the other hand, when a pH 4.5 Ni-P electroless solution was used, a Ni-P plating film was not formed at a plating bath temperature of 50 ℃, and the plating speed was very slow compared to pH 7.0, although plating speed increased with increasing bath temperature. In the P contents, the P concentration of the neutral pH 7.0 Ni-P electroless plating layer was reduced by ~ 42.3 % compared to pH 4.5. Structurally, all of the Ni-P electroless plating layers formed in the pH 4.5 solution and the neutral (pH 7.0) solution had an amorphous crystal structure, as a Ni-P compound, regardless of the plating bath temperature.
We demonstrate a simple and effective method to accurately position silicon nanowires (Si NWs) at desirable locations using drop-casting of Si NW inks; this process is suitable for applications in nanoelectronics or nanophotonics. Si NWs were assembled into a lithographically patterned sacrificial photoresist (PR) template by means of capillary interactions at the solution interface. In this process, we varied the type of solvent of the SiNW-containing solution to investigate different assembly behaviors of Si NWs in different solvents. It was found that the assembly of Si NWs was strongly dependent on the surface energy of the solvents, which leads to different evaporation modes of the Si NW solution. After Si NW assembly, the PR template was cleanly removed by thermal decomposition or chemical dissolution and the Si NWs were transferred onto the underlying substrate, preserving its position without any damage. This method enables the precise control necessary to produce highly integrated NW assemblies on all length scales since assembly template is easily fabricated with top-down lithography and removed in a simple process after bottom-up drop-casting of NWs.

The existing wet reconversion processes for the recovery of scraps generated in manufacturing of nuclear fuel are complex and require several unit operation steps. In this study, it is attempted to simplify the recovery process of high-quality fuel-grade UO2 powder. A novel wet reconversion process for uranyl nitrate hexahydrate solution is suggested by using a newly developed pulsed fluidized bed reactor, and the resultant chemical characteristics are evaluated for the intermediate ammonium uranate hydrate product and subsequently converted UO2 powder, as well as the compliance with nuclear fuel specifications and advantages over existing wet processes. The UO2 powder obtained by the suggested process improved fuel pellet properties compared to those derived from the existing wet conversion processes. Powder performance tests revealed that the produced UO2 powder satisfies all specifications required for fuel pellets, including the sintered density, increase in re-sintered density, and grain size. Therefore, the processes described herein can aid realizing a simplified manufacturing process for nuclear-grade UO2 powders that can be used for nuclear power generation.
Using alkali treatment solution, neutrality treatment solution and acid treatment solution, the surface corrosion layer of copper plates and bronze plates that have been artificially corroded using HCl, $H_2SO_4$ and $HNO_3$ solutions were removed. In the case of alkali treatment solution, only air oxidation in the form of black tenorite and white cuproous chloride remained without being removed. In the case of using a neutrality treatment solution, a anhydrous type layer of reddish brown cupric chloride remained without being removed, together with this black and white corrosion substance. In the case of using an acid treatment solution, this red corrosion substance also remained, but all of the oxide was removed on the surface of the specimen that was treated by alternatively using alkali treatment solution and acid treatment solution. In the case of this treatment solution with the order of alkali-acid, oxidation no longer proceeded only through the distilled water cleaning process after treatment, thereby showing that oxidation from the cleaning solution no longer proceeded.
