A traffic accident analysis method was developed and tested based on the highway alignment risk indices using geographic information systems(GIS). Impacts of the highway alignment on traffic accidents have been identified by examining accidents occurred on different alignment conditions and by investigating traffic accident risk indices(TARI). Evaluative criteria are suggested using geometric design elements as an independent variable. Traffic accident rates were forecasted more realistically and objectively by considering the interaction between highway alignment factors and the design consistency. And traffic accident risk indices and risk ratings were suggested based on model estimation results and accident data. Finally, forecasting traffic accident rates, evaluating the level of risk and then visualizing information graphically were combined into one system called risk assessment system by means of GIS. This risk assessment system is expected to play a major role in designing four-lane highways and developing remedies for highway sections susceptible to traffic accidents.
By using the current road design method that is based on the regulation about structure and facilities standard of the road and the route plan guide of a national road and the alignment optimization road design method which is studied in the inside and outside of country, this study operate the route plan of the sample study and compare and analysis the route character, consequently the current design method has local optimization that is formed the plan by the stage and the section. Alignment optimization road design has the system optimal route search. But cost function has limite that caused by construction parameter that is not included in cost function. So we design a road route included cost function in main fields. As a result, we obtain a realistic and economically road route. The alignment optimization road design model has to be made up some problems, like the change of vertical gradient in the tunnel section, though this defects it has a lot of merits as a geometric design tool, especially in the feasibility study and the scheme design.
This report describes the development of a program that can be linked to an alignment and extracts related information using a prefab structured digital engineering model. The subject bridge was set as a straight alignment, the Superstructure type as Precast girder and the Substructure type as Precast pier and Cast-in-situ Abutment. We identified the variables required to create a digital engineering model and reviewed them to create the digital engineering model by entering them as numerical values in the program. In addition, it is configured so that the variables linked to the alignment can be entered numerically. The quantity takeoff can be calculated when the design is complete. The purpose of the program development presented in this report is to enable the designers to select the optimal alternative by designing a bridge that best fits their current situation, extracting the relevant information and then by providing it to the manufacturer and construction company.

The government continues to announce measures to revitalize smart construction technology based on BIM for productivity innovation in the construction industry. In the design phase, the goal is design automation and optimization by converging BIM Data and other advanced technologies. Accordingly, in the basic design of the Namhae Seomyeon-Yeosu Sindeok National Road Construction Project, a domestic undersea tunnel project, BIM-based design was carried out by developing tunnel design automation technology using 3D spatial information according to the tunnel design process. In order to derive the optimal alignment, more than 10,000 alignment cases were generated in 36hr using the generative design technique and a quantitative evaluation of the objective functions defined by the designer was performed. AI-based ground classification and 3D Geo Model were established to evaluate the economic feasibility and stability of the optimal alignment. AI-based ground classification has improved its precision by performing about 30 types of ground classification per borehole, and in the case of the 3D Geo Model, its utilization can be expected in that it can accumulate ground data added during construction. In the case of 3D blasting design, the optimal charge weight was derived in 5 minutes by reviewing all security objects on the project range on Dynamo, and the design result was visualized in 3D space for intuitive and convenient construction management so that it could be used directly during construction.
We propose a patterning method of liquid crystal (LC) alignment layer for producing multi-domain LC structures. By controlling thermal conditions during micro-contact printing procedures and facilitating wetting properties of patterning materials, patterned LC orientation can be easily obtained on a bare ITO surface or other polymer films. The newly proposed patterning method is expected to be a very useful tool for fabricating multi-domain LC structures to enhance or design electro-optic properties of LC-based devices.

In this paper, a new method is proposed for the five-degree-of-freedom precision alignment and stitching of three-dimensional surface-profile data sets. The control parameters for correcting thealignment error are calculated from the surface profile data for overlapped areas among the adjacent measuring areas by using the "least squares method" and "maximum lag position of cross correlation function." To ensure the alignment and stitching reliability, the relationships betweenthe alignment uncertainty, overlapped area, and signal-to-noise level of the measured profile data are investigated. Based on the results of this uncertainty analysis, an appropriate size is proposed for the overlapped area according to the specimen's surface texture and noise level.

The authors have developed a calculating method of propeller shaft alignment by the finite element method. The propeller shaft is divided into finite elements which can be treated as uniform section bars. For each element, the nodal point equation is derived from the stiffness matrix, the external force vector and the section force vector. Then the overall nodal point equation is derived from the element nodal point equation. The deflection, offset, bending moment and shearing force of each nodal point are calculated from the overall nodal point equation by the digital computer. Reactions and deflections of supporting points of straight shaft are calculated and also the reaction influence number is derived. With the reaction influence number the optimum alignment condition that satisfies all conditions is calculated by the simplex method of linear programming. All results of calculation are compared with those of Det norske Veritas, which has developed a computor program based on the three-moment theorem of the strength of materials. The authors finite element method has shown good results and will be used effectively to design the propeller shaft alignment.

Railway track alignment Standards set a minimum lenght value for straight and circular alignments (art. 5.2.9.), in order to ensure passenger ride comfort in railway vehicles of which dynamic oscillations will thus have to be limited. The transitions between alignments can cause abrupt changes (usually called discontinuities or singular points of the alignment) of curvature, of rate of change of curvature or of rate of change of cant. A passenger is likely to experience effects due to the excitation of the elastic suspension of the vehicle which generates oscillations that are damped as the vehicle moves away from the singularity. The amplitude of these oscillations should be adequately attenuated by the damping of the suspension system within the interval between two successive singular points, especially to avoid resonances. Therefore minimum lengths between two successive singular points are stated in alignment standards. Nevertheless, these nonnative values can be overly conservative in some cases. As an alternative, track alignment designers could try to assess how much the excitation has been attenuated between two successive singular points and thus assess at which point a new singularity may be present without affecting ride comfort. Although such assessment can be made with commercial SW packages which simulate the dynamic behavior of a vehicle considered as a set of rigid bodies interconnected with elastic elements simulating the suspension systems (such as SIMPACK, ADAMS or VAMPIRE), a simplified and user-friendly computation method (based upon the analytical solution of differential equations governing the phenomenon) is made available in this paper to track design engineers, not always used to working with full dynamic models.
This paper illustrates the application of co-occurrence theory to generate lightweight ontologies semi-automatically. The proposed model includes three steps of a (Semi-) Automatic creation of Ontology; (they are conceptually named as) the Syntactic-based Ontology, the Semantic-based Ontology and the Ontology Refinement. Each of these three steps are designed to interactively work together, so as to generate Lightweight Ontologies. The Syntactic-based Ontology step includes generating Association words using co-occurrence in web documents. The Semantic-based Ontology step includes the Alignment large Association words with small Ontology, through the process of semantic relations by contextual terms. Finally, the Ontology Refinement step includes the domain expert to refine the lightweight Ontologies. We also conducted a case study to generate lightweight ontologies in specific domains(news domain). In this paper, we found two directions including (1) employment co-occurrence theory to generate Syntactic-based Ontology automatically and (2) Alignment large Association words with small Ontology to generate lightweight ontologies semi-automatically. So far as the design and the generation of big Ontology is concerned, the proposed research will offer useful implications to the researchers and practitioners so as to improve the research level to the commercial use.
Road design guideline provides the directions on how to design a road alignment based on design speed, and this guideline has a design expectation in that design speed is supposed to be equal to the operating speed of drivers. Horizontal curve design is also based on design speed, and minimum radius is derived based on the drivers comfort while negotiating the curve. However, side friction reflecting drivers comfort is lower than a physical friction measured on wet road surface, therefore, it is reasonable to regard the criterion on minimum radius has a safety margin. Futhermore, the practical preference of choosing the larger radius than minimum leads to a noticeable gap between design speed and operating speed, so links to the violation of design expectation implicated in the guideline. In order to review this assumption, friction and operating speed at rural roads was measured and observed. As the results, a safety margin brought out by the gap between comfort-based friction and measured friction is qualitatively derived. Also, the gap between design speed and operating speed presumably caused by the safety margin and practical preference is analysed. By this, it is suggested that current design guideline should provides not only the minimum radius but also the management of road alignment design to minimize the gap between the design speed and operating speed.
