  • In this paper, a Cloud Model based Fruit Fly Optimization Algorithm (CMFOA) is presented for structural damage identification, which is a global optimization algorithm inspired by the foraging behavior of fruit fly swarm. It is assumed that damage only leads to the decrease in elementary stiffness. The differences on time-domain structural acceleration data are used to construct the objective function, which transforms the damaged identification problem of a structure into an optimization problem. The effectiveness, efficiency and accuracy of the CMFOA are demonstrated by two different numerical simulation structures, including a simply supported beam and a cantilevered plate. Numerical results show that the CMFOA has a better capacity for structural damage identification than the basic Fruit Fly Optimization Algorithm (FOA) and the CMFOA is not sensitive to measurement noise.

  • Flutter characteristics of composite curved wing were investigated in this study. The efficient and robust system for the flutter optimization of general composite curved wing models has been developed using the coupled computational method based on both the standard genetic algorithm and the micro genetic algorithms. Micro genetic algorithm is used as an alternative method to overcome the relatively poor exploitation characteristics of the standard genetic algorithm. The present results show that the micro genetic algorithm is more efficient in order to find optimized lay-ups for a composite curved wing model. It is found that the flutter stability of curved wing model can be significantly increased using composite materials with proper optimum lamination design when compared to the case of isotropic wing model under the same weight condition.

  • This paper presents a new scheduling scheme in wireless distributed network. To overcome the limited information about unfamiliar mobile nodes and to reduce the required system performance, we propose a scheduling algorithm of job allocation based on the trust model. The suggested scheduler evaluate an unfamiliar mobile node's trust and make reference to the trust value of neighboring scheduler. This scheduling algorithm can avoid malicious or selfish mobile nodes by assigning low trust values. We also present a trust evaluation metric and show the efficiency of suggested scheduling algorithm by performance evaluation.

  • Wireless sensor network (WSN) is a distributed self-organizing network which contains a large number of tiny multi-functional sensor nodes. The network life time is an important issue in WSN because every sensor node has a constraint on electric supply. In this paper, an energy consumption model is described and a GA-based algorithm will be used to optimize the energy consumption by analyzing the working model of sensor nodes. The model will provide an effective reference of working pattern for WSN. This algorithm is evaluated through analysis and simulations.

  • This paper presents a tracking vibration estimation system of the track-following system using a tracking loop gain adjustment algorithm and a genetic algorithm. The algorithms are introduced to estimate accurately the tracking vibration quantity in spite of the uncertainties of the tracking actuator. An estimated actuator model can be found by applying a genetic algorithm. Accordingly, the tracking vibration quantity can be estimated from the measured tracking error, the tracking controller and the estimated actuator model. The proposed tracking vibration estimation method is applied to the track-following system of an optical recording device and is evaluated through the experimental result.

  • This paper presents a fast sequencing algorithm for a mixed model assembly line with multiple workstations which minimize the total utility work and idle time. We compare the proposed algorithms with another heuristic, the Tsai-based heuristic, for a sequencing problem that minimizes the total utility works. Numerical experiments are used to evaluate the performance and effectiveness of the proposed algorithm. The Tsai-based heuristic performs best in terms of utility work, but the fast sequencing algorithm performs well for both utility work and idle time. However, the computational complexity of the fast sequencing algorithm is O (KN) while the Tsai-based algorithm is O (KNlogN). Actual computational time of the fast sequencing heuristic is 2-6 times faster than that of the Tsai-based heuristic.

  • We revisit the assembly block storage location assignment problem (ABSLAP) at a shipyard, in order to compensate for the deficiency in performance verification of the heuristic ABSLAP algorithm developed by the previous study. In this paper, we formulate a mathematical programming model of the ABSLAP, refine elaborately the heuristic ABSLAP algorithm, and show the performance of the developed mathematical programming model and the revised heuristic ABSLAP algorithm. In addition, we explain simulation experiments conducted using the revised heuristic ABSLAP algorithm to investigate the influences of block stockyard layouts and production schedule instability on the block stockyard operations.

  • This paper describes the development of a stereo matching algorithm for extracting Digital Elevation Model(DEM) from satellite images. This matching algorithm is based on a non-linear least squares correlation estimation but has improved matching speed. The algorithm consists of three steps: matching execution, matching control and matching optimization. Each is described. The performance of the presented algorithm is quantitatively analyzed with experiments on matching probability, matching speed and matching convergence radius.

  • In this paper, an optimal allocation method of a hybrid active power filter in an active distribution network is designed based on the differential evolution algorithm to resolve the harmonic generation problem when a distributed generation system is connected to the grid. A distributed generation system model in the calculation of power flow is established. An improved back/forward sweep algorithm and a decoupling algorithm are proposed for fundamental power flow and harmonic power flow. On this basis, a multi-objective optimization allocation model of the location and capacity of a hybrid filter in an active distribution network is built, and an optimal allocation scheme of the hybrid active power filter based on the differential evolution algorithm is proposed. To verify the effect of the harmonic suppression of the designed scheme, simulation analysis in an IEEE-33 nodes model and an experimental analysis on a test platform of a microgrid are adopted.

  • This study presents an algorithm and related techniques which could satisfy the important properties of check weighers and conveyor scales. The algorithm of Recursive Least Squares Regression is applied for the weighing system simulated as a dynamic model of the second order. Using the model and the algorithm, model parameters and then the mass being weighed can be determined form the step input. The performance of the algorithm was tested on a check weigher. Discussions were extended to the development of noise reduction techniques and to the lagged introduction of objects on the moving plate. It turns out that the algorithm shows several desirable features suitable for microcomputer assisted real-time signal processing, which are high precision and stability in noisy environment.
