Purpose: The purpose of this study was to survey the health behaviors related to reproductive health, reproductive health history, and sexual behaviors of college students in local areas. Method: With a survey design, 792 college students from C and D areas were recruited to assess health behaviors such as smoking and alcohol drinking, as well as history of reproductive health and sexual behaviors. The data were collected by a self-administered questionnaire from November to December, 2007. Result: Mean age of the students was 20.8(SD=1.96) and gender distribution was 29.2% for male and 70.8% for female. Unhealthy behaviors were alcohol drinking, smoking, excessive weight loss, and irregular exercise; unsafe sex practices were experience of sexual intercourse with multiple sex partners and history of sexually transmitted disease (STD). Male students had more alcohol drinking (p=.04), smoking(p<.001), excessive weight loss(p=.01), experience of sexual intercourse with multiple sex partners(p<.001), history of STD(p=.025) compared to females. On the other hands, female students participated in regular exercise less than males(p<.001). Conclusion: College students seem to perform unhealthy behaviors related to reproductive health and less effective way of safe sex practices. Therefore, a planned education program for reproductive health promotion operated by college level is needed to assess and improve the level of reproductive health in college students.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to prevent the Aged from encountering a sudden accident in an emergency situation caused by drinking, help them have better awareness of drinking problems, and provide basic data for forming sound drinking. Method: A descriptive approach was made to the occurrence of emergency situations caused by drinking for the aged by reviewing literature concerning the subject, along with the analysis of the actual condition through the cases of emergency situations. Result: The Aged had a drink to drown their loneliness due to the loss of social belonging and solitude and attempt suicide, relied on drinking due to the loss of economic roles and reduced income to cause emergency situations, drove when drunken to bring emergency situations to themselves and others, and committed incendiarism after drinking due to social dissatisfaction and mental problems. Conclusion: It is necessary to develop leisure management programs positively and provide an opportunity for sound living culture to old people so that they can have sound entertainment culture other than drinking; such educational programs will serve to form healthy society with no emergency situation caused by the Aged drinking.

The purpose of this study was to examine if high risk drinkers are different from normal drinkers in terms of drinking motives, drinking refusal self-efficacy, and alcohol outcome expectancy. A total of 139 university male students in D area completed a self-reporting questionnaires to assess general characteristics, drinking motives, drinking refusal self-efficacy, alcohol outcome expectancy, and amount of drinking. The subjects were divided into high risk drinking and normal drinking based on a CDC guideline. The results of study show that high risk drinking group has higher odds for current smoking (adjusted OR=2.95, 95% CI [1.08, 8.05]), psychology major (adjusted OR=3.79, 95% CI [1.05, 13.71]), and enhancement motives (adjusted OR=2.64, 95% CI [1.15, 6.09]), whereas lower odds for junior grade (adjusted OR=0.21, 95% CI [0.05, 0.96]) and drinking refusal self-efficacy in social pressure (adjusted OR=0.42, 95% CI [0.24, 0.73]). The results suggest that drinking educational nursing intervention and smoking cessation program for university students are necessary to prevent high risk drinking effects.
The purpose of the study was to investigate social support, depression, drinking and smoking in college and working females. The convenience sample consisted of 169 college females and 133 working females. Data were collected from March to May, 2000. Social support was measured by the 6-item Social Support Questionnaire which assesses the size of the emotional social support network and satisfaction with social support. The Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression scale was utilized to measure the level of depression symptoms. The average number of drinks and cigarettes smoked per week during the previous month was assessed. Results indicated that college students had more social support than working females. However, there were no significant differences in satisfaction with their support, depression, drinking and smoking between two groups. College females who smoked cigarettes were more depressed and had less social support than those who did not smoke. Also college females who drank alcohol were more depressed than those who did not drink during the previous month. However, the level of social support and depression were not associated with drinking and smoking among working females. Based on the results, it is suggested the application of various interventions to deal with drinking and smoking behavior among college and working females.
Purpose: The aim of this study is to identify the influence of chronotype and self-efficacy on drinking problem in undergraduate students. Methods: A cross-sectional survey design was adopted for the 177 undergraduate students in D, G, and K city in 2017. The data was analyzed for descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficients and multiple regression analysis using the SPSS 18.0 program. Results: Chronotype (${\beta}=-.31$, p< .001), self-efficacy (${\beta}=27$, p< .001) and religion (${\beta}=-.19$, p= .005) were identified as the factors influencing drinking problem in the subjects. The model explained 19% of variance in drinking problem (F= 11.36, p< .001). Conclusion: It is necessary to develop and apply a program that would consider chronotype and self-efficacy factors to reduce the drinking problem in undergraduate students.
This study was done for the purpose of investigating college students' body weight and health behavior. The subjects for this study were 1421 students obtained by a convenient sampling from one junior college located in Mok-Po. The data were analyzed by self-reporting questionnaire from June 18 to 28, 1996. The data were analyzed by descriptive statistics with SAS program. The results were as followed; Factors of comparatively high contribution to overweight were male students, perception they were healthy. smoking, alcohol drinking, irregular sleep and eating pattern, sleep for 9 hours over, regular exercise, no snack, diet control for weight loss. Factors of comparatively high contribution to underweight were female students. perception they were unhealthy. no smoking and alcohol drinking. irregular sleep and eating pattern. high rate of snack, sleep for 9 hours over. In conclusion overweight and underweight were correlated with seven health habits' and we suggest health education related to seven health habits.

This study investigated the relationship between drinking and health factors including vaso-aging degree, stress index, stress resistance, fatigue and activity of autonomic nerve system etc. The subjects were 20,925 persons who had received health examination by Korean Medicine and submitted questionnaires about drinking history, for 8 months from March to November. The vaso-aging degree were measured by APG (Accelerated Photoplethysmograph). The stress index and resistance, fatigue and activity of autonomic nerve system were measured by HRV (Heart Rate Variability). We analyzed the relationship between drinking and various variables by chi-square test with SPSS ver. 19.0. Regarding the relationship between drinking and vaso-aging degree, there was significant differences(p<0.05). But regarding the relationship between drinking and the other factors, there were no statistically differences. This study suggests that the vaso-aging degree is affected by drinking alcohol.
The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of supplementary highly purified chitosan (HPC) on blood alcohol concentration in healthy human. The human study was performed with two sections. Each section of the study was conducted by two-phase cross-over design with a week wash-out period. All volunteers took HPC in one phase, and took a placebo in the next phase. Blood alcohol concentrations were different between in those taking HPC and in those taking the placebo in the human. And the concentration of serum aspartate aminotransferase (AST, GOT) and alanine aminotransferase (ALT, GPT), the indicator of liver cell damage, was lowered in those taking HPC, compared to those taking the placebo. In conclusion, taking HPC prior to drinking alcohol can somewhat reduce alcohol concentration in human blood and liver cell damage.
In this study the author had attempted to establish a correlation among alcohol use and MMPI and lunar cycle. MMPI was carried on 2, April 1992(the last day of the second lunar month) and 15, June 1992(the fifteenth day of the fifth lunar month). These experiments took male and female students who were in WON KWANG University as subjects. The results of it suggested the followings. 1) Drinkers and normal subjects average of T-score in each scales were in a normal scores. 2) In every scales except L,K,Si scales drinkers showed higher scores than normal subjects. There was a significant difference on L, F, Pd, Pa, Sc, Ma scales. 3) On the fifteenth day of the month, drinkers showed Higher T-Scores than normal subjects in every scales excepts L,K,Si scales. There was a significant difference in Ma scale. 4) On the last day of the month, drinkers showed higher T-scores than normal subjects in every scales except L,K,Mf,Si scales. There was a significant difference on L, F, Pd, Sc, Ma scales. 5) Drinkers showed higher than normal subjects in symptom of neurosis and psychosis. As the results of above, human character changes to some extend according to alcohol use. There is a tendency that repeated drinking of college students prone to change into habitual drinking or alcoholic impairment. So controlled drinking among the college students is highly recommended.
Objectives: Alcohol intake has been reported to be a risk factor of laryngeal cancer. Since the aldehyde dehydrogenase 2 (ALDH2) genotype is a major determinant of personal alcohol drinking habit, there is a possibility that ALDH2 genotype would be a risk factor for laryngeal cancer. N-Acetyltransferase 2 (NAT2) is a detoxifying enzyme and its polymorphism has been reported to be related to the risk of many environmental cancers. However, studies on the associations between these two genotypes and laryngeal cancer risk are scarce. We have assessed the effects of alcohol intake and the genotype of ALDH2 and NAT2 on the risk of laryngeal cancer in Koreans. Materials and Methods: Eighty-four pathologically proven laryngeal cancer patients and 168 age matched controls were included as the study subjects. Information about alcohol intake and smoking habit was collected using a self administered questionnaire. ALDH2 and NAT2 genotypes were analyzed using PCR-RFLP methods. Results: Alcohol intake was significant as a risk factor for laryngeal cancer (OR : 2.58, 95% CI : 1.24, 5.36), especially for supraglottic laryngeal cancer (OR : 3.24, 95% CI : 1.02, 10.31). Personal drinking habit was closely related with personal smoking habit, which was a potent risk factor of laryngeal cancer. In a stratified analysis according to the level of cumulative smoking amount, drinking was significant neither in light smokers (equal or less than 30 pack-years) nor in heavy smoker (over 30 pack-years). The ALDH2 genotype was significantly associated with the risk of laryngeal cancer in a univariate analysis. The statistical significance, however, disappeared after adjusting alcohol intake using a multiple conditional logistic model. The NAT2 genotype was not significant as a risk factor for laryngeal cancer. Conclusion: Alcohol drinking and ALDH2 genotype would have indirect effects on laryngeal cancer by their correlations with cigarette smoking or with alcohol drinking. It is less likely that the NAT2 genotype would be a potent risk factor of laryngeal cancer.
