  • Distribution Management System(DMS) ienhancing distribution automation system-based operation efficiency is an optimized system by various operational applications in a distribution network. DMS employs various applications like topology reconfiguration, volt/var control, and restoration at events such as overload, voltage violation, and a fault in a distribution system. An operation efficiency to employ multi-applications as restoration with short-term load forecasting is higher than a performance by a single application; and the applications are accomplished by an operator’s control. Applications’ combination is determined by various alarm information which means critical issues in order to operate a distribution system. Thus, this paper proposes an application management system which can configure application combination, control applications depending on alarm information and check their performance condition. The proposed application management system can be customized by operator easily and have high operation efficiency and reliability because it is worked by reviewed alarm information from operator.

  • Objective: This study proposes an alarm display and compares it with the one(alarm tile display) widely used in main control rooms(MCRs) of nuclear power plants. Background: Catching up with the rapid development of computer technologies, advanced MCRs has been required. Using modern technologies of computers and visual displays, we have a lot of potential to improve user performance and satisfaction as well as safety in MCRs. Method: The alarm bar display has been proposed to reduce some potential problems of the alarm tile display in this study. Human factors evaluations were conducted to compare both types of displays. Two interfaces of bar alarm and tile alarm were simulated on the desktop computer for the user-involved experiment. Eight students participated in the experiment with the within-subject design. Results: The alarm bar was slightly better in terms of situation awareness, and preferred to understand alarm dynamics. The alarm tile was slightly or significantly better in other measures. Conclusion: Both alarm displays have their own advantages and disadvantages. Therefore, combining benefits of both displays can be used to optimize the design of alarm displays. Application: The proposed display is expected to compensate the existing displays for certain purposes.

  • The purpose of this study was to apply the signal pattern recognition technique to the digital wireless fire-alarm system and to reduce unwanted fire alarms. In this study, the fire alarms of the K Institute, which operates the largest digital wireless fire-alarm system in Korea, were classified into normal operations and unwanted fire alarms, and these were analyzed and compared with actual fire signals. In addition, by designing a non-fire signal filter and applying it to the K Institute, we confirmed that the monthly unwanted fire alarm rate of all 5,713 detectors decreased sharply. In particular, the unwanted fire alarm rate for flame decreased from 1.09% to 0.11% and the unwanted fire alarm rate for smoke decreased from 0.65% to 0.035%.

  • The number of users topped 30 million smartphones in Korea, has become a necessity of modern people. There are many applications to provide alarm and memo, but most of them are for personal usage not groups. In this study, we present an application providing alarms and memos to all users in a group. The group alarm function provides an alarm to all members in a group when a group member set an alarm. When a memo is written by one member, the memo is shared to all members in the group. Our application will be useful to groups that should notice important information and meeting time among group members.

  • Purpose: This study was done to develop a schematized alarm-managing manual for continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) and to investigate its effects in maintaining continuity in the patients' treatment and promptly resolving alarms when CRRT is being carried out. Methods: Sixtynurses from two medical intensive care units (ICUs) (one experimental and one control) at one hospital were asked to answer a questionnaire including their CRRT nursing competency and satisfaction with the manual. Data on alarm resolution rate were collected by analyzing existing data, such as the details of each alarm and the number of resolutions around the clock in the CRRT device. Results: The alarm resolution rate and some of CRRT nursing competency scores in the experimental group were higher than those in the control group. The experimental group was also satisfied with the manual. Conclusion: The study confirmed that the schematized alarm-managing manual can be useful for ICU nurses to resolve alarms and can be used as a guideline. Application of this manual to clinical practices and its use can therefore, be encouraged through continuous education and promotion.

  • Today, with the development of technology and industry, fire accidents in special buildings are increasing as special buildings increase. However, despite the rapid development of information and communication technology, human casualties are steadily occurring due to the underdeveloped and ineffective indoor fire alarm system. In this study, we confirmed that the existing indoor fire alarm system using acoustic alarm could not deliver a sufficiently large alarm to the in-room personnel. To improve this, we designed and implemented a fire alarm system using edge computing and beacons. The proposed improved fire alarm system consists of terminal sensor nodes, edge nodes, a user application, and a server. The terminal sensor nodes collect indoor environment data and send it to the edge node, and the edge node monitors whether a fire occurs through the transmitted sensor value. In addition, the edge node continuously generate beacon signals to collect information of smart devices with user applications installed within the signal range, store them in a server database, and send application push-type fire alarms to all in-room personnel based on the collected user information. As a result of conducting a signal valid range measurement experiment in a university building with dense lecture rooms, it was confirmed that device information was normally collected within the beacon signal range of the edge node and a fire alarm was quickly sent to specific users. Through this, it was confirmed that the "blind spot problem of the alarm" was solved by flexibly collecting information of visitors that changes time to time and sending the alarm to a smart device very adjacent to the people. In addition, through the analysis of the experimental results, a plan to effectively apply the proposed fire alarm system according to the characteristics of the indoor space was proposed.

  • An integrated type fire alarm control panel which is for the purpose of the ubiquitous environment application is reported. For the ubiquitous environments, mainly three additional functions upon its inherent capabilities are implemented. That is, wireless technology with ZigBee capability is applied for the interface of ZigBee detectors. Camera images can be displayed in the fire alarm control panel in which images are transferred via ethernet. For the time synchronization of the distributed fire alarm control panel, GPS module is introduced and implemented in the system.

  • According to the development if the ships navigational equipment, a bridge system has been improved but a marine accidents by human error haven't been reduced Recently our interest is concentrated on a suitable ergonomic arrangement and design of the ships bridge equipment to reduce an error due to human factors. The bridge alarm system should be designed to recognize the alarm informations as soon as possible and to deliver it clearly. Internationally, the matter is being discussed on the BAMS(Bridge Alarm Management System) in a view if a ergonomic bridge design, but a practical design method is not getting result.. In this paper I would like to review an application approach of human engineering ergonomics to a bridge alarm system and propose a conceptual design if the Ergonomic Integrated Bridge Alarm Management System(EIBAMS)

  • This paper describes a design and implementation of an analog detector and a fire alarm system with recent technology on information and communication. A hierarchical architecture design from the detector to the main system enables to accommodate medium to large size buildings located nearby or far-away. And a software design from communication protocol to application program handles large amount of events efficiently to show information on a large LCD. A PC-based alarm system provides higher speed and larger capacity in a large LCD screen compared with foreign microprocessor-based small screen systems. Thus, very large buildings with several thousands of analog detectors can be easily covered in a single system. When an alarm occurs, a staff alarm scenario specially attempted only in the system is considered to play a major role to distinguish a real fire from unwanted alarms.
