PATCHWISE REPRODUCING POLYNOMIAL PARTICLE METHOD FOR THICK PLATES: BENDING, FREE VIBRATION, AND BUCKLING

  • Reproducing Polynomial Particle Method (RPPM) is one of meshless methods that use meshes minimally or do not use meshes at all. In this paper, the RPPM is employed for free vibration analysis of shear-deformable plates of the first order shear deformation model (FSDT), called Reissner-Mindlin plate. For numerical implementation, we use flat-top partition of unity functions, introduced by Oh et al, and patchwise RPPM in which approximation functions have high order polynomial reproducing property and the Kronecker delta property. Also, we demonstrate that our method is highly effective than other existing results for various aspect ratios and boundary conditions.

수치해석을 이용한 열간 가변금형 성형특성 평가 (Numerical Study on Forming Characteristics of Hot Multi-Point Forming Die)

  • A multi-point forming die (MPFD), which has been used for producing curved plates, is capable of forming various curved plates with just one MPFD. However, in real industries, an MPFD is difficult to be adopted since the structural properties, punch strength, elastic recovery correction and dimensional accuracy become problems. In order to overcome these problems, the hot multi-point forming die (HMPFD) was proposed in this study. This HMPFD commonly provide more less spring-back and forming load than conventional MPFD. Nevertheless, this process is very difficult to form the curved plate, because the final curved shape of the plate depends on many process variables such as the punch/nozzle arrangement (height and distance), the radius of punch, contact conditions between plate and punch. In this study, the forming characteristics of HMPFD and conventional MPFD are compared with each other through the finite element analysis.

  • On the basis of successful experiences and data from author's past experimental results of friction stir welding on thin aluminum plates, thick aluminum plate of high strength 2000 series has been carried out in this study. For various combination of rotating speed, welding speed and tool (RIWRC38-C) shape, the butt welded specimens has been prepared to check the metallurgical characteristics, hardness distributions and defects. From the results, feasible welding conditions have been obtained as 450 rpm rotating speed and 5 mm/min welding speed. Using these optimum welding parameters, 38.1mm-thickness A2519-T87 plates have been FSWelded in single pass. A good weld surface appearance and defects free weld zone has been observed in X-ray inspection. Softened region has been generated by dissolution of precipitates and coarsened microstructure in the stir zone after FSWeld.

GRAIN SIZE AND TOUGHNESS OF TI-6AL-4V ELECTRON BEAM AND TIG WELD DEPOSITS

  • Electron beam (EB) and Gas tungsten arc (TIG) welds were performed on 12.7 mm thick Ti-6Al-4V plate (ASTM Titanium Grade 5). Charpy-V toughness and hardness, as well as, microstructure of the welds and penetration from the macrostructure were studied. It appears that by EB welding rather smaller $\beta$-grains than with TIG welding can be obtained. Next to the fusion line the $\beta$-grain size in the HAZ was 50 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$l while in the weld metal it was 150 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$. Charpy-V toughness of the EB weld metal was equal or even better to that of base metal, which shows that the $\alpha$-martensite per se is not particularly brittle if only the grain size is fine enough. This is similar to behavior of low carbon martensite in steel. The grain size was studied with light optical and scanning electron (SEM) microscopes. Thus for products, for products which can be manufactured automatically with very narrow fit, the EB welding of Ti-6Al-4V appears to yield satisfactory toughness without any complex post weld heat treatment. ill this study as in earlier studies the TIG welds gave lower toughness than that of the base material due to the higher heat input and slower cooling as compared to EB welding.

경사균열을 갖는 복합재료 보강판의 피로균열 성장에 관한 연구 (A Study on Fatigue Crack Growth Analysis of Inclined Cracked Plate with Composite Patched Repair)

  • Fatigue crack growth behavior of inclined cracked Al 6061-T6 thick aluminum plate(6mm) repaired with the bonded composite patch was studied. A 0°inclined crack bonded reinforced composite patch and 15°, 30°, 45°, 60°inclined crack plates were tested. The effect of patch and inclined angle were studied and compared to each other. Also we investigated to the crack propagation direction and debonding behavior during the fatigue crack growth test. In this paper. a study was con(ducted to get an fatigue life, fatigue crack growth ratio and crack growth direction. Finally, the effectiveness of composite patch on inclined cracked plate was investigated. The results demonstrated thats there was a definite variation in fatigue life and fatigue crack growth behavior depending on the inclined crack angle.

Six New Species of Two Genera Dysidea and Pleraplysilla (Demospongiae: Dictyoceratida: Dysideidae) from Korea

  • Six new species of two genera Dysidea and Pleraplysilla (Demospongiae: Dictyoceratida: Dysideidae) are described from Jejudo Island, Dokdo Island and Guryongpo, Korea. Among them, five new species of the genus Dysidea are compared with other reported species in fibres structure, cored detritus and fibres arrangement. Dysidea niveus n. sp. is characterized by thin collagenous plate-like fibres. Dysidea dokdoensis n. sp. is similar to D. geomunensis Kim et al., 2020 in skeletal structure, but differs in length of surface conules. Dysidea hydra n. sp. is similar to D. mureungensis Kim et al., 2020 at the surface, but differs in fibres cored with spicules. Dysidea sabulum n. sp. is similar to D. glavea Kim et al., 2020 in cored large sands in fibres, but differs in having numerous large sands cored in fibres throughout the sponge. Dysidea hirsuta n. sp. is unique, only surface fibres cored with large sands but not in choanosome. A new species of genus Pleraplysilla, P. flabellum n. sp. is compared with seven other reported species. This new species is not encrusting but has a thick flabellate shape.

Manufacturing and Macroscopic Properties of Kinetic Spray Ni-Cr-Al-Y Coating Layer

  • This study attempts to manufacture a Ni-Cr-Al-Y coating layer using a kinetic spray process and investigates the microstructure and physical properties of the manufactured layer. The Ni-22Cr-10Al-1Y (wt.%) composition powder is used, and it has a spherical shape with an average diameter of $23.7{\mu}m$. Cu plate is used as the substrate. Optical microscope, X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscope and Vickers hardness test are carried out to characterize the macroscopic properties of the coating layer. Furthermore, the coating layer underwent vacuum heat treatment at temperatures of $400^{\circ}C$ and $600^{\circ}C$ for 1 hour to check the effect of heat treatment temperature on the properties. The manufactured coating layer is 1.5 mm thick, and featured identical phases to those found in the powder. The porosity of the coating layer is measured at 2.99%, and the hardness is obtained at $490.57H_v$. The layer shows reduced porosity as heat treatment temperature increased, and hardness is reduced at $400^{\circ}C$ but shows a slight increase at $600^{\circ}C$. Based on the findings described above, this study also discusses possible manufacturing methods for a Ni-Cr-Al-Y coating layer using the kinetic spray process.

Buckling behavior of rectangular plates under uniaxial and biaxial compression

  • In the classical stability investigation of rectangular plates the classical thin plate theory (CPT) is often employed, so omitting the transverse shear deformation effect. It seems quite clear that this procedure is not totally appropriate for the investigation of moderately thick plates, so that in the following the first shear deformation theory proposed by Meksi et al. (2015), that permits to consider the transverse shear deformation influences, is used for the stability investigation of simply supported isotropic rectangular plates subjected to uni-axial and bi-axial compression loading. The obtained results are compared with those of CPT and, for rectangular plates under uniaxial compression, a novel direct formula, similar to the conventional Bryan's expression, is found for the Euler stability stress. The accuracy of the present model is also ascertained by comparing it, with model proposed by Piscopo (2010).

알루미늄 합금 GMAW 용접부의 전기화학적 방법에 의한 내식성 평가 (Electrochemical Corrosion Evaluation of Aluminum Alloy Weldment Prepared by GMAW Process)

  • The aim of the present study is to evaluate electrochemical corrosion characteristics of base metal and weldment of Al-Mg alloy in seawater solution. The specimen was 5mm thick 5083-H321 Al alloy plate which was butt-welded using gas metal arc welding (GMAW). To identify the types of inclusions in the weldment, the microstructural observation was performed along with Energy dispersive spectrometer (EDS) analysis. The anodic polarization experiments were performed to evaluate the corrosion characteristics. After the anodic polarization test, the corroded surface was observed by SEM(scanning electron microscope) and EDS. The result of the analysis revealed a large number of voids in the weldment, especially coarse grains and inclusions in the heat affected zone. The corrosion current density of the weldment was found to be approximately 13 times higher than that of the base metal, indicating lower corrosion resistance of the weldment due to the defects in the weldment and the heat affected zone.

검출기 필터를 이용한 화질의 향상 (Enhancement of Image Quality Using Detector Filter)

  • 방사선 검사로 환자의 병을 진단하기 위해서는 방사선 피폭이 따르게 된다. 최소한의 피폭으로 병변을 진단하는 일반촬영에 이중 엑스선 에너지 기법의 임상적용 가능성을 SNR 및 화질 점수화의 지표로 조사하였다. 이중 엑스선 에너지 기법은 검출기로 사용되는 두 개의 Image Plate 사이에 0.5 mm 두께의 Cu와 Al 필터를 추가함으로써 구현하였다. 한 번의 엑스선 조사로 획득된 두 IP 영상을 Subtraction 및 Enhance Contrast 기법을 적용하여 획득하였다. Enhance 영상은 첫 번째 IP에서 획득한 First 영상보다 SNR이 우수한 것으로 측정되었다. 이 일반촬영의 이중 엑스선 에너지 기법은 피폭선량을 줄이면서 영상의 품질을 높일 수 있는 방법으로 임상에서 매우 유용하게 적용될 수 있을 것이다.
