  • Fast urbanization and industrialization have resulted in rapid changes in the urban environment. For effective monitoring and management of these changes, a new surveying methodology that is more inexpensive and timely than the conventional remote sensing system if required. This paper proposes an unmanned airship videographic system capable of acquiring stable video. In addition, it presents approaches to constructing a prototype facilities management system based on VideoGIS, which links GIS functions and video data to provide actual spatiotemporal information.

  • The material properties of membrane for stratospheric airship is experimentally investigated. Mechanical tensile properties of the membrane material at room, high and low temperature are measured using instron with thermal chamber. Experimentaly, material non-linearity is observed at room and high temperature. In order to simulate material non-linearity caused by the uniaxial extension curve of a woven fabric, the nonlinear hyperelastic problem is considered with finite clement program of ABAQS. Numerical results are compared with experimental results.

  • To obtain large scale precise geographical information in local area we determined external orientation parameters of camn exactly and conducted aerial photography using remote control airship loaded 35mm non-metric camera that produced systematic error coefficients. Ground control Points were determined by differential GPS. Therefore we can try to improve accuracy and economical efficiency. Also, it is suggested that remote control airship photogrammetry can be applied to make large scale topographic map using analytical plotter as calibrated accuracy.

  • In the hot summer manual spray work for plants would be the hardest one among the agricultural field works. Besides the physical load the possible toxication would strongly ask a way to do the job on behalf of human. Although an aircraft with sprayer could be a good candidate, the manned airplanes do not play proper roles in our country because of field geometry. Today, unmanned helicopter as expensive as 200,000 dollars can do the job with high risk of control. Therefore safe and cheap air vehicle with sprayer, if developed, could be a great help to agriculture.

  • Since the bands 27.5 ∼ 28,350㎓ and 31.0 ~ 31.30Hz for existing fixed-satellite service were allocated to tile HAPS system in WRC-2000, the analysis on the interference effects between the existing FSS/GSO system and FS/HAPS system should be needed. To do study on the interference effects between above two systems, we can consider two frequency operational conditions, one is the Reverse mode, the other is Forward mode. In this paper, we analyzed the interference effects from airship of HAPS systems to satellite of the GSO system in the case of Reverse condition mode due to the C/I criterion, the latitude of HAPS and transmitting power of HAPS airship. In future, these results will be vital data to share between HAPS and GSO systems.

  • The numerical simulation of two-dimensional moving blade row interactions is conducted by CFD means to investigate the interactions between the front and rear propeller in a stratospheric airship contra-rotating open propeller configuration caused by different rotational speeds. The rotational speed is a main factor to affect the propeller Reynolds number which impact the aerodynamic performance of blade rows significantly. This effect works until the Reynolds number reaches a high enough value beyond which the coefficients become independent. Additionally, the interference on the blade row has been revealed by the investigation. The front blade row moves in the induced-velocity field generated by the rear blade row and the aerodynamic coefficients are influenced when the rear blade row has fast RPMs. The rear blade row moving behind the front one is affected directly by the wake and eddies generated by the front blade row. The aerodynamic coefficients reduce when the front blade row has slow RPMs while increase when the front blade row moves faster than itself. But overall, the interference on the front blade row due to the rear blade row is slight and the interference on the rear blade row due to the front blade row is much more significant.

  • Recently, much demand of vector data have increased rapidly such as a digital map instead of traditional a paper map and the raster data such as a high-resolution orthoimage have been used for many GIS application with the advent of industrial high-resolution satellites and development of aerial optical sensor technologies. Aerial photogrammetric technologies using an airship can offer cost-effective and high-resolution color images as well as real time images, different from conventional remote sensing measurements. Also, it can acquire images easily and its processing procedure is short and simple relatively. On the other hand, it has often been used for the production of a small-scale land use map not required high accuracy, monitoring of linear infrastructure features through mosaicking strip images and construction of GIS data. Through this study, the developed aerial photogrammetric system using the airship expects to be applied to not only producing of scale 1:5, 000 digital map but also verifying, editing, and updating the digital map which was need to be reproduced. Further more, providing the various type of video-images, it expects to use many other GIS applications such as facilities management, scenery management and construction of GIS data for Urban area.
