Increasing Endurance Performance of Tiltrotor UAV Using Extended Wing (확장날개를 이용한 틸트로터 무인기 체공성능 향상)

  • A new configuration of tiltrotor UAV previously suggested by Korea Aerospace Research Institute (KARI) for the purpose of increasing the endurance performance in airplane mode flight has extended wings attached to the nacelle and rotated with the nacelle according to the flight modes. In this research, the effectiveness of the extended wing on the enhancement of the endurance performance of KARI tiltrotor UAV (TR60) was analytically investigated based on CFD analysis results. Flight tests and ground tests of measuring the fuel consumption were also conducted to directly compare the endurance performance for the two configurations of TR60 baseline and TR60 extended-wing model.

  • In Korea, the regulation is MOLIT Notice 2018-290, Guidance for Approval of Synthetic Flight Trainer as Flight Simulator and Flight Training Device. The FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) categorizes FSTD (Flight Simulation Training Device) into FFS (Full Flight Simulator) and FTD (Flight Training Device), according to its level. Additional categories for regulation are airplane and helicopter, depending on the type of aircraft. In this study, the objective tests for the handling quality of the FAA and Korean regulations were compared and analyzed. In QPS (Qualification Performance Standard), related test titles, flight conditions, and tolerance limits were analyzed for the handling quality. Based on this study, recommendations on amendments to the regulation was presented.

  • It is very difficult to acquire high-fidelity flight test data for small airplanes such as typical unmanned aerial vehicles because MEMS-type small sensors used in the tests do not present reliable data in general. Besides, it is not practical to conduct expensive flight tests for low-cost small airplanes in order to simulate their flight characteristics. A practical approach to obtain acceptable flight data, including stability and control derivatives and data of weight and balance, is proposed in this study. Aircraft design software such as Darcorp's AAA is used to generate aerodynamic data for small airplanes, and moments of inertia are calculated using CATIA, structural design software. These flight data from simulation software are evaluated subjectively and tailored using simulation flight by experienced pilots, based on the certified procedures in FAA AC 120-45A and 40B, which are used for manned airplane simulators.

  • This is analyzed using the finite element method which is appling excellent isoparametric curve element in the aspect of large usages of dynamic responses in which is regarding geometric and material nonlinear of a large scale shell structure of an airplane, a submarine, a ship, and an ocean structure. The solution of dynamic equations is got by direct integration method using time-stepping procedure and regarding Central Difference Method of the both solutions. But because formal matrix factorization is not necessary in each time step and it does not take less time to compute relatively, this method must be regarded very few time steps on the condition. Axisymmatric shell problems are inspected using 8 node Isoparametric element in this paper. Partial axisymmatric spherical shell is used as a model to analyze axisymmatric nonlinear dynamic behavior regarding. Total Lagrangian formulation in geometric nonlinear behavior and elastio-viscoplastic in material nonlinear behavior.

  • In this paper, the wavelet transform based lossless image compression algorithm is proposed. The proposed algorithm transforms the input image using 9/7 ICFB and S+P filter, and eliminates the spacious correlation of the subband coefficients, applying the context modeling predictive technique based on the multi-resolution structure and the feedback of the prediction error. The prediction context exploits the subordination and direction property of the different level subband in the vertical, horizontal, and diagonal subband coefficients. The simulation result of the high frequency images such as PEPPERS, BOAT, and AIRPLANE shows that the proposed algorithm efficiently predicts the edge area of each multi-resolution subband.

  • This study presents a plant concept design for a smart factory which is mainly targeted to machine airplane parts. The plant layout is based on the TOC-DBR approach together with autonomous distributed factory control considered, while discrete event simulation is also performed in order to validate its layout. The resulting layout and its procedure turn out to be quite a useful guideline in realizing those smart factories especially for machining-oriented manufacturing industries.

  • Spray characteristics of the APU simplex fuel nozzle are investigated. Four flight conditions such as sea level idle, sea level max power, 20,000 feet idle, 20,000 feet max power are used as spray experimental conditions. Spray visualization was performed by using ND-YAG laser. Droplet size and velocity were measured by using PDPA(Phase Doppler Particle Analyzer) system. From the test result, SMD is 100 ${\mu}$m�� and velocity is 10 m/s at 20,000 ft idle condition. In this condition, flame unstability could be occurred due to the higher drop diameter. Therefore it is necessary to decrease the droplet diameter in the high altitude condition.

One cannot destroy 10 story buildings or 100-meter long bridges. People try to build 100-story buildings or several thousand meter long bridges. In order to realize "composites in construction", the following subjects must be studied in detail, for his design: Concept optimization, Simple method of analysis, Folded plate theory, Size effects in failure, and Critical frequency. Unlike the design procedure with conventional materials, his design should include material design, selection of manufacturing methods, and quality control methods, in addition to the fabrication method.on method.

  • Reports have a significant meaning in time-constrained large transaction environments, such as airplane control systems or wargame simulations. This is due to the necessity of generating reports within a limited scope of time without restraining the operation performance of large transaction environments. In order to generate reports in large transaction environments while satisfying time - constrained requirements, this paper propose a model which combines the incremental operation mechanism and materialized view mechanism using triggers and stored procedures. Further, the implementation and evaluation of the preposed model provides analysis for model characteristics.
