Facial Injury after Airbag Deployment in Occupant Motor Vehicle Accident (자동차 교통사고 시 에어백에 의한 안면부 손상특성)

  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate the injury mechanism of facial injury related to an air-bag's deployment in occupant motor vehicle accident (MVA) by using Hospital Information System (HIS) and reconstruction program, based on the materials related to motor vehicle accidents. Among patients who visited the emergency department of Wonju Severance Christian Hospital due to motor vehicle accidents from August 2012 to February 2014, we collected data on patients with agreement for taking the damaged vehicle's photos. After obtaining the verbal consent from the patient, we asked about the cause of the accident, information on vehicle involved in the accident, and the location of car repair shop. The photos of the damaged vehicle were taken on the basis of front, rear, left side and right side. Damage to the vehicle was presented using the CDC code by analytical study of photo-images of the damaged vehicle, and a trauma score was used for medical examination of the severity of the patient's injury. Among the 309 patients with agreement for an investigation, thirty five (11.3 %) were the severe who had ISS over 15. And also, sixteen (5.2%) derived from the reconstructed data (maximum collision energy, maximum acceleration, delta V) by PC-Crash. As a result, ISS including the facial injuries was affected by the condition. It was high when the number of crash extent, the safety belt was not fastened, and the seating position of occupant and the direction of collision is same. For accurate analysis of the relationship between occupant injury and vehicle damage in MVAs, build-up of an in-depth database through carrying out various policies for motor vehicle accidents is necessary for sure.

Characteristics of Thin-Film Inductors Using EeZrBAg Magnetic Thin Films (FeZrBAg 자성막을 이용한 박막 인덕터의 임피던스 특성)

  • Double rectangular spiral thin-film inductors were fabricated using $Fe_{86.7}Zr_{3.3}B_{4}Ag_{6}$ thin film with high permeability and resistance, in which easy axis of magnetization of the thin-film was perpendicular or parallel to the current direction. The perpendicular geometry inductor revealed higher inductance than the parallel geometry one, because spin aligns of magnetic film were more easily along the field direction due to higher field intensity in the perpendicular geometry. The increase of the inductance, however, resulted in the decrease of resonance frequency. The permeability was monitored by annealing the thin-films at different temperatures. With increasing the permeability, the inductance increased, but total resistance also increased due to the increase in magnetic core loss. As the resonance frequency was higher in air-core inductor than in magnetic thin-film core inductor, it is suggested to increase the resonance frequency that the characteristic of air-core inductor rather than the magnetic properties of the thin-film should be enhanced..

A Study on the Regeneration of SCR Catalyst Deactivated by Unburned Carbon Deposition (탄소침적으로 피독된 탈질 촉매의 재생에 관한 연구)

  • A bag filter system was partially burnt down during a trial run of waste wood incineration boiler. This brought about unburned hydrocarbon which caused a rapid deactivation of low temperature SCR catalyst set up in two stage after the bag filter. The deactivated catalyst was investigated in order to trace the origin by several characterization methods such as XRD, EDX, BET, TGA, SEM. The deactivated catalyst was regenerated by different methods such as acid washing, water washing in ultrasonication, and calcination treatment under air condition. It is found the calcination treatment under air condition at $450^{\circ}C$ for 2 hours to be the best regeneration method. The catalytic activity was measured in the form of 2 cm ${\times}$ 2 cm ${\times}$ 10 cm (catalyst weight 10 g) honeycomb type. A deNOx efficiency of the regenerated catalyst showed 100% at $180^{\circ}C$ which is the same level of fresh one.

Statistical Review for New USNCAP Side Crash Test Results (새로운 미국 측면 신차안전도평가 결과에 대한 통계적 분석)

  • New USNCAP has been carried out by NHTSA including front and side crash from MY2011. In this paper, test results for USNCAP Side crash were reviewed by statistical analysis. This review focused on side crash test results to investigate the effect of changes from new USNCAP side crash test protocol among 30 passenger cars. These results were summarized as followings. Total number of 5 star vehicles on the front seat dummy (16 vehicles, 53.3%) was slightly smaller than the rear seat's (17 vehicles, 56.7%) in MDB test. For the ES-2re dummy, chest injury, ie maximum rib deflection contributed to 66% in the mean value of $P_{joint}$. Pelvis injury was highly dependent upon performance up to 87% in the SID-IIs dummy cited on the rear seat in average $P_{joint}$. For Pole test, pelvis injury made contribution to the average performance to 83%. For standard deviation, it showed the largest value in the same body region as the mean value for each dummy. Overall front seat performance showed 14 vehicles, 44.6% with 5 star vehicles less than each MDB or Pole test result. This result showed that performances in MDB test were different pattern to Pole test on driver position. Number of 5star vehicles for overall side NCAP performance are 18 passenger cars (60%). Curtain airbag and driver thorax airbag were equipped in all test vehicles. One vehicle is equipped with thorax airbag in the rear seat. Results from two side tests considered as reliability problem, ie the cause for large standard deviation in side crash test. Consequently, the countermeasure for new USNCAP side crash test is essential to design the effective side structures for side collision and to control well dummy kinematics with curtain and thorax airbag in order to reduce chest and pelvis injuries.

Evaluation of experimental reliability for trace-quantity of gaseous VOC working standards based on thermal desorption analysis (극미량 휘발성유기화합물질의 기체상 표준시료 조제와 열탈착분석방식에 기초한 분석안정도의 평가)

  • In this study, an attempt was made to measure uncertainties involved in the VOC analysis for the VOC working standards prepared by a dilution technique using Tedlar bags. For this purpose, VOC standard gases of benzene, toluene, xylene, and styrene were prepared at four different concentrations (4, 8, 20, and 40 ppb). These standard samples were then loaded on to the GC system equipped with air server/thermal desorption (AS/TD) system. Each of these four standard concentrations was analyzed individually to derive their respective calibration results. These calibration data sets were then compared across four different compounds. According to this comparison, differences in calibration patterns were moderately insignificant within the selected concentration range of 4~40 ppb. It was also observed that the loss of styrene standard was fairly high compared to other VOCs investigated simultaneously. The results of our study suggest that the analytical uncertainty associated with the preparation of VOC starndard gas using a dilution technique can be assessed in a fairly reasonable manner for samples with a narrow concentration range.

  • For efficient use of solar energy in plastic greenhouse, thermal storage system was developed. The system was constructed with the counter-flow type air-water heat exchanger using a thin polyethylene film as a medium of heat exchange parts. Experiments were carried out to investigate the heat exchange rate, optimum water flow rate, overall heat transfer coefficient, and the effectiveness of the counter-flow type air-water heat exchanger with polyethylene film bags. Mathematical model to predict air temperature leaving heat exchanger was developed. The results obtained in the present study are summarized as follows. 1. Heat exchange rate in the counter-flow type air-water heat exchanger with polyethylene film bags was compared to that of polyethylene film. Heat exchange rate was almost identical at air velocity of 0.5m/s on polyethylene film surface. But, heat exchange rate of heat exchanger with polyethylene film bag was $32{\sim}55KJ/m^2$ hr higher than that of polyethylene film at air velocity of 1.0m/s. 2. Considering the formation of uniform water film and the sufficient heat exchange rate of polyethylene film bags, optimum water flow rate in polyethylene film bags was $3.0{\sim}6.0{\ell}/m^2$ min. 3. The overall heat transfer coefficient of polyethylene film bags was found to be $35.0{\sim}130.0KJ/m^2\;hr\;^{\circ}C$ corresponding to the air velocity ranging 0.5 to 4.0 m/s on polyethylene film surface. And the overall heat transfer coefficient showed almost linearly increasing tendency to the variation of air velocity. 4. Mathematical model to predict air temperature leaving the heat exchanger was developed, resulting in a good agreement between the experimental and predicted values. But, the experimental results were a little lower than predicted. 5. Effectiveness of heat exchanger for the experiment was found to be 0.40~0.81 corresponding to the number of transfer units due to the variation of air velocity ranging 0.6 to 1.7 m/s.

  • In South Korea since 1970s the rapid development of economic growth has brought about "Urbanization" in many areas and also raised the level of people's life in many ways. At the same time, however, the industrialization and overpopulated districts in many areas have caused the problems of air pollution in necessary. Among those air pollution, in particular, in large cities has become more serious since 1990s than before. Air pollution, like TSP and SO$_{x}$ caused by heating, generation of electric power and industrialization in 1980s, showed as that of the type of an underdeveloping country and was not hazardous enough to people in the least. Unfortunately, in 1990s NO$_{x}$, CO and O$_{3}$ caused by the soaring numbers of many types of cars have exhausted air pollutant more hazardous as the same air pollution type of many developed countries. So, the purpose of this study would be to analyze the changes of concentration of NO$_{x}$ and CO on environmental air by traffic volume and from the side drive way to the degree of distance in Sungnam City, and recognize the citizens' consciousness to air pollution and suggest the best walking point in part, and plan to design the reasonable use of cars and finally make the air quality improve toward the better-ment in part. From the research result we can know that people walking in the street would be protected from the hazardous air pollutant caused by the cats if they walk apart from a drive way as far as they can in the street. Accordingly, it might, to minimize th affect of air pollution, be thought to be desirable that the consideration of in introduction the system that the vehicle using the diesel engine motor should use the centered-lane aparted from road. Another to be desirable is that along side the road, the trees inhaled the pollution should be planted.

A Study on the Correlation Level Among Air Pollution from Solid waste Incinerator (고형폐기물 소각로에서 배출되는 대기오염물질간의 상관성에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is providing basic data to control the air pollutants from solid waste incinerator. Incinerating the waste wood, the electrostatic precipitator had the best collection efficiency. The leather incineration had the same collection efficiency as synthetic resin incineration. And the coarse particle collection efficiency was high. As you know in correlation of leather incineration. pollutants produced a from incinerator are mostly fine particles. If the scrubber used only in the process produced a lot of fine particles. It is adequate to use the above control devices, together with high efficiency collector like bag-filter. To select the adequate control devices, it is required to investigate the size distribution before establishing control devices.

  • Aerosol formation and growth by water vapor reactions were investigated in a 2.5 -㎥ indoor smog chamber filled with the unfiltered ambient air. The relative humidity of test ambient air was elevated at 59~64% or 84~88% by adding water vapor. The aerosol number size distribution and the concentrations of $O_3$, NO, NO$_2$, and SO$_2$ were measured during the experiments. The $O_3$ and NO$_2$ gases were well reacted with the water vapor at high relative humidity of 84~88%, and the reaction rates of these gases seemed to be decreased at low relative humidity of 59~64%. The formation and condensational growth phenomena of ambient aerosols by water vapor reactions were observed in a Teflon bag, depending strongly on the initial particle size distribution. The water vapor reactions might be affected by the contents of oxidants produced by photochemical reactions under sunlight.

  • In order to turn the Bag Filter to the Purse Filter, the past system that the adverse reason is removed, the input of synthetic materiality of dust and air is placed down, and the output is placed up has been improved so that any adverse effect shall not be raised. The form of filteration mechanism is changed from a cylinder from, and the dust and air is mixed to make the entry velocity and one person can velocity of the mixed materiality become lower by the use of infinity, and the reception of filteration mechanism has been made reasonably. The dust separated from the filteration mechanism is desceded down, snd the mixde materiality is ascended up. So, a cross point is formed, and a collision and a friction is occurred from its process, and at its result, dust is scattered to stick to a filter cloth, therefore, the loss of pressure shall ont be appeared by cause of the increase of dust-loading.
