Outside wall systems we lost much energy from the dew of thermal bridge and unsuitable adiabatic construction. The air vent wall system can make reduce cooling loads from the outside wall in summer. The basic concept is connected with buoyant force by the difference of density. An external surface of a wall absorbs solar radiation, and transfers it to the air in the cavity. The warmed air gets buoyant force. So the warmed air is released through the top opening and cooler outside air replaces the space in the cavity. So because of the cavity and the openings, the cooling load reduction by natural ventilation is believed to be considerable. The purpose of this study is finding optimal length of air cavity by numerical analyses.

Ventilation through air vent system in a building envelope is expected to be an effective measure to release solar radiation. An external surface of a wall absorbs solar radiation and transfers it to the air in the cavity. The warmed air gets buoyant force. So when openings are provided at the top and bottom of the cavity, the warmed air is released through the top opening and cooler outside air replaces the space in the cavity. This reduces the further heat transmission into the built environment. This natural ventilation effect seems to be steady and strong. So because of the cavity and the openings, the cooling load reduction by natural ventilation is believed to be considerable.
This study considers indoor thermal comfort in an ondol space by supply vent configurations to prevent cold draft in winter. A specially-designed vent cap has been investigated in comparison with a round pan-type vent and a simple opening without a cap. Numerical simulations have been conducted using CFD to analyze thermal comfort indices such as Predicted Mean Vote (PMV) and Effective Draft Temperature (EDT) as well as air distribution index i.e. Air Diffusion Performance Index (ADPI). Results show the new vent cap provides improved thermal comfort conditions especially near ondol heated floor, as the cold outdoor air spreads upwards along the vertical wall before reaching occupant region near floor. This paper includes discussions on the flow and comfort distributions created by the thermal jets from the vents.

To improve the mixing efficiency and to reduce the pressure loss, it is needed to develope a new mixing device for supersonic combustion. The vent mixer is introduced as the new supersonic fuel-air mixer. Computational analyses, that include pressure profile, density contour, and streamline tracing, have been carried out. The expansion wave generates at the end of the extended upper wall of the mixer. And it reduces the shock wave from the hole. Incoming air flow through the hole makes several recirculation regions which increase the mixing efficiency, and the separation region at the downward wall expends the boundary layer which reduces the pressure loss.
Outpatient drainage therapy is generally indicated for spontaneous pneumothoraces. A 63-year-old man, who had been attacked by a bull sustaining injuries on the right side of his chest, was referred to the emergency room with dyspnea. His chest X-ray showed a small pneumothorax. The next day, a chest X-ray demonstrated that his pneumothorax had worsened, although no hemothorax was identified. Outpatient drainage therapy with a thoracic vent was initiated. The air leak stopped on the third day and the thoracic vent was removed on the sixth day. Thoracic vents can be a useful modality for treating traumatic pneumothorax without hemothorax.

This paper studies the aerodynamic performance that the vent mixer-new conceptual supersonic mixer-showed with its geometric characteristics. The hole is 2 mm with 2 mm's distance from the wall in case 1 and with no distance in case 2. In case 3 die hole is 1 mm. Case 1 and case 2 showed the same total pressure recovery ratio, of which the case 3 was lower than that. While cases 1-3 had the same reattachment length, the shear layer was thicker in cases 1 and 2 than in case 3. Within the recirculation zone, cases 1 and 2 had lower pressure loss and higher velocity gradient difference than case 3-they enhance mixing between air and fuel. Separation bubble which is developed by the inflow into the recirculation zone has a significant effect on the total pressure recovery ratio in the combustor. Also separation bubble influences pressure distributions and recirculation flows in the recirculation zone. Therefore, inflow rate of air into the recirculation zone mainly affects the performance of vent mixer.
The vortex ventilation system (VV) which uses a rotating finned swirler installed coaxially with the exhaust duct is a very effective local ventilator. VV can enhance the capture depth by a factor of 3-5 compared to the conventional exhaust hood, in the absence of any solid walls nearby. In real situations there may exist ceiling, side wall and floor, all of which can affect the flow field and suction performance by way of the no-slip condition on the walls. 3D CFD simulation was performed in order to see the effect of the floor on the capture performance of the VV. The presence of floor reduced suction flow velocity, and increased the critical rotational speed which is the rotational speed required for stable vortex formation. Flow velocity profile along the axis could be well approximated by a universal functional form when the distance from the exhaust inlet is non-dimensionalized by the distance to the floor. Capture depth, define by the distance from the exhaust inlet to a point of velocity decreased to 10% of that at the inlet, is reduced by about 10% when the floor distance is 6 times the exhaust hood diameter.
Sixty-one consecutive patients with coronary artery bypass graft for myocardial revascularization were retrospectively reviewed to analyze various pattern of postoperative complication and death during hospital stay from Nov. 1988 to Oct. 1992. Fortytwo of the patients were male and nineteen female. The mean age was 56 and 51 years in male and female. Preoperative diagnosises were unstable angina in 14 of patients, stable angina in 28, postmyocardial infarction state in 15, and state of failed percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty in 4. 141 stenosed coronary arteries were bypassed with use of 20 pedicled internal mammary artery and 124 reversed saphenous vein grafts. Postoperative complications and perioperative death were as follows: 1. Of 61 patients undergoing operation, peri and postoperative over all complication occured in 15 patients [ 25% ]; newly developed myocardial infarction in 4, intractable cardiac arrhythmia including atrial fibrillation and frequent ventricular premature contraction in 3, bleeding from gastrointestinal tract in 2, persistent vegetative state as a sequele of brain hypoxia in 1, wound necrosis in 1, left hemidiaphragmatic palsy in 3 and poor blood flow through graft in 2. 2. Operative mortality was 8%[5 patients]. 3 out of these died in operating room; 1 patient by bleeding from rupture of calcified aortic wall, 1 by air embolism through left atrial vent catheter, 1 by low cardiac output syndrome. 2 patients died during hospital stay; 1 by acute respiratory distress syndrome with multiuple organ failure, 1 by brain death after delayed diagnosis of pericardial tamponade.

This paper reports the fluid flow and heat transfer around a module cooled by forced air flow generated by a piezoelectric(PZT) cooling fan. The fluids are locally accelerated by a flexible PZT fan which deflects inside a fluid transport system of comparatively simple structure mounted on a PCB in a parallel-plate channel(450${\times}$80${\times}$700㎣). Input voltages of 20-100V and a resonance frequency of 23㎐ were used to vibrate the cooling fan. Input power to the module was 4W. The fluid flow around the module was visualized by using PIV system. The temperature distributions around a heated module were visualized by using liquid crystal film(LCF). The cooling effect using a PZT fan was independent of the vent area ratios at the channel inlet and was similar to the forced convection cooling. We found that the flow type was Y-shape and the cooling effect was increased by the wake generated by a piezoelectric cooling fan.
The important results which have been obtained in the investigation can be recapitulated as follows. 1. As demonstrated by the experimental results and analyses concerning their effects in the on-ground type mushroom house, the constructions in relation to the side wall and ceiling of the experimental house showed a sufficient heat insulation on effect to protect insides of the house from outside climatic conditions. 2. As the effect on the solar type experimental mushroom house which was constructed in a half basement has been shown by the experimental results and analyses, it has been proved to be effective for making use of solar heat. However there were found two problems to be improved for putting solar house to practical use in the farm mushroom growing: (1) the construction of the roof and ceiling should be the same as for the on ground type house, and (2) the solar heat generating system should be reconstructed properly. 3. Among several ventilation systems which have been studied in the experiments, the underground earthen pipe and ceiling ventilation, and vertical side wall and ceiling ventilation systems have been proved to be most effective for natural ventilation. 4. The experimental results have shown that ventilation systems such as the vertical side wall and underground ventilation systems are suitable to put to practical use as natural ventilation systems for farm mushroom house. These ventilation systems can remarkably improve the temperature of fresh air which is introduced into the house by heat transfers within the ventilation passages, so as to approach to the desired temperature of the house without any cooling or heating operation. For example, if it is assuming that X is the outside temperature and Y is the amount of temperature adjustment made by the influence of the ventilation system, the relationships that exist between X and Y can be expressed by the following regression lines. Underground iron pipe ventilation system. Y=0.9X-12.8 Underground earthen pipe ventilation system. Y=0.96X-15.11 Vertical side wall ventilation system. Y=0.94X-17.57 5. The experimental results have 8hown that the relationships existing between the admitted and expelled air and the $CO_2$ concentration can be described with experimental regression lines or an exponent equation as follows: 5.1 If it is assumed that X is an air speed cm/sec. and Y is an expelled air speed in cm/sec. in a natural ventilation system, since the Y is a function of the X, the relationships that exist between X and Y can be expressed by the regression lines shown below: 5.2 If it IS assumed that X is an admitted volume of air in $m^3$/hr. and Y is an expelled volume of air in $m^3$/hr. in a natural ventilation system, since the Y is a function of the X, the relationships that exist between X and Y can be expressed by the regression lines shown below. 5.3 If it is assumed that expelled air speed in emisec. and replacement air speed in cm/sec. at the bed surface in a natural ventilation system are shown as X and Y. respectively, since the Y is a function of the X. the relationships that exist between X and Y can be expressed by the following regression line: GE(100%)-CV (50%) ventilation system. Y=-0.54X+0.84 5.4 If it is assumed that the replacement air speed in cm/sec. at the bed surface is shown as X, and $CO_2$ concentration which is expressed by multiplying 1000 times the actual value of $CO_2$ % is shown as Y, in a natural ventilation system, since the Y is a function of the X, the relationships that exist between X and Y can be expressed by the following regression line: GE(100%)-CV(50%) ventilation system. Y=114.53-6.42X 5.5 If it is assumed that the expelled volume of air is shown as X and the $CO_2$ concencration which is expressed by multiplying 1000 times the actual of $CO_2$% is shown as Y in a natural ventilation system, since the Y is a function of the X, the relationships that exist between X and Y can be expressed by the following exponent equation: GE(100%)-CV(50%) ventilation system. Y=$127.18{\times}1.0093^{-x}$ 5.6 The experimental results have shown that the ratios of the cross sectional area of the GE and CV vent to the total cubic capacity of the house, required for providing an adequate amount of air in a natural ventilation system, can be estimated as follows: GE(admitting vent of the underground ventilation) 0.3-0.5% (controllable) CV(expelling vent of the ceiling ventilation) 0.8-1.0% (controllable) 6. Among several heating devices which were studied in the experiments, the hot-water boilor which wasmodified to be fitted both as hot-water boiler and as a pressureless steam-water was found most suitable for farm mushroom growing.
