The focus of this paper is to observe the aerodynamic and vibration characteristics of the NACA0012 blade(AR=16.6) fixed on the lower surface of the wind tunnel, by changing air speed and the blade's angle of attack. After fixing a slit-typed vortex generator on the front of the blade, it could be observed that the vibrational characteristics caused by interactions between vortex and blade through the 5-hole pilot tubes. And, also, two different blades in stiffness had been prepared for observing those characteristics above in this experiment. The results were compared with the given stiffness of blade, as well. According to the results, it is clear to recognize that the vibration spectrum increases while air speed and angle of attack increase, and, also, less stiffness means bigger vibration spectrum.

This paper presents the experimental investigations of a system as a second treatment means to increase boiler efficiency and heat transfer from combustion gas to heating surfaces in the case of spray combustion. In order to reburn residual combustible components accelerate the burning rate of sprayed fuel droplets, improve the diffusion flame and delay the residence time of the flame, advice with slit type nozzles for spouting preheated supplementary air is used in this study. In the experiment, boiler efficiency and smoke concentration in the exhaust gas at given conditions are measured in both case of installing and not-installing device in the model of combustion chamber which was designed to be equipped with five surfaces. The results obtained in this experiment are as follows ; 1. The optimum values of air rate ${\lambda}$ are about 1.3 in both case. 2. The exhaust gas temperature in the case with device increases about $30{\sim}70^{\circ}C$ above that of the case without the device. 3. Boiler efficiency and reduction effect of smoke emissions are improved considerably.

Because of improvement of living standards and increased use of ice at home, built-in ice makers are of interest. In this study, refrigeration cycle of a unitary ice maker for residential usage was optimized using R-404A. Optimization was achieved through a search for proper refrigerant charge amount. For the present ice maker producing ice for 24 cups, the optimum charge amount was 200 g. In this configuration, the ice making cycle time was 17 minutes 53 seconds, ice production was 1.27 kg/h and COP was 0.310. After initial start-up, condensation and evaporation temperatures gradually decreased with time. As ice builds in the cup, heat transfer performance of the evaporator decreases, that results in decrease of evaporation and condensation temperatures. Replacement of existing slit nozzles with individual circular hole nozzles improved ice production capacity by 10 percent. Through visualization of ice formation in the ice cup, growth rate of the ice in the cup was relatively uniform.

Fin-tube heat exchangers are widely used in refrigeration systems. To improve the performance of fin-tube heat exchangers, the shape of plain fin was developed in slit fin and louver fin. These pins have higher heat transfer performance as well as larger pressure drop. Recent studies of a delta winglet vortex generators(DWVG) show less heat transfer capacity than louver fin. However, the DWVG have very small pressure drop. This paper compares the performance for the plain fin and DWVG fin in terms of flow characteristics and heat transfer based on CFD analyses. The DWVG generate vortex and delayed flow separation and leads to a reduction of a wake region behind a tube. The results show that the DWVG produce improved heat transfer and reduced pressure drop compared to a plain fin. This result is opposite to the Reynolds analogy.

This study investigates the pressure drop and heat transfer characteristics of heat exchanger according to the combination of fin configuration and fin pitch of each row by the similitude experiments with the finned-tube geometry scaled as large as four times Finned-tube heat exchanger has 2 rows, and fin geometry consists of two cases, louver-louver and louver-slit. Fin pitch is varied with three types in each case, 6-6 mm, 8-8 mm and 8-6 mm. Results show that total heat transfer can be occurred evenly at each row by varying the fin pitch of 1st row and 2nd row. Heat transfer rate and pressure drop characteristics change according to the combination for fin geometry and fin pitch.

Compared to epifluorescence(EPI) microscopy which captures fluorescence from the entire depth of sample, total internal reflection fluorescence(TIRF) can selectively visualize only a single surface of it. TIRF uses a thin evanescent field generated by the total internal reflection of laser light on surface. However, conventional TIRF system are designed for total internal reflection to occur at the upper surface of sample, making them unsuitable for sessile droplet imaging. We designed a TIRF system suitable for a sessile droplet imaging by utilizing slide glass as a lightguide. We presented the details for constructing the TIRF system using a prism, slide glass, air slit, and optical trap. Then, we compared the TIRF with EPI by imaging the droplet with fluorescent particles during its drying process. As a result, TIRF allows us to distinctly visualize the drying pattern on the bottom surface of droplet.

The new spectrometer for X-ray Induced Electron Emission Spectroscopy (XIEES) .has been recently developed in KRISS in collaboration with PTI (Russia). The spectrometer allows to perform research using the XAFS, SXAFS, XANES techniques (D.C.Koningsberger and R.Prins, 1988) as well as the number of techniques from XIEES field(L.A.Bakaleinikov et all, 1992). The experiments may be carried out with registration of transmitted through the sample x-rays (to investigate bulk samples) or/and total electron yield (TEY) from the sample surface that gives the high (down to several atomic mono-layers in soft x-ray region) near surface sensitivity. The combination of these methods together give the possibility to obtain a quantitative information on elemental composition, chemical state, atomic structure for powder samples and solids, including non-crystalline materials (the long range order is not required). The optical design of spectrometer is made according to Johannesson true focusing schematics and presented on the Fig.1. Five stepping motors are used to maintain the focusing condition during the photon energy scan (crystal angle, crystal position along rail, sample goniometer rail angle, sample goniometer position along rail and sample goniometer angle relatively of rail). All movements can be done independently and simultaneously that speeds up the setting of photon energy and allows the using of crystals with different Rowland radil. At present six curved crystals with different d-values and one flat synthetic multilayer are installed on revolver-type monochromator. This arrangement allows the wide range of x-rays from 100 eV up to 25 keV to be obtained. Another 4 stepping motors set exit slit width, sample angle, channeltron position and x-ray detector position. The differential pumping allows to unite vacuum chambers of spectrometer and x-ray generator avoiding the absorption of soft x-rays on Be foil of a window and in atmosphere. Another feature of vacuum system is separation of walls of vacuum chamber (which are deformed by the atmospheric pressure) from optical elements of spectrometer. This warrantees that the optical elements are precisely positioned. The detecting system of the spectrometer consists of two proportional counters, one scintillating detector and one channeltron detector. First proportional counter can be used as I/sub 0/-detector in transmission mode or by measuring the fluorescence from exit slit edge. The last installation can be used to measure the reference data (that is necessary in XANES measurements), in this case the reference sample is installed on slit knife edge. The second proportional counter measures the intensity of x-rays transmitted through the sample. The scintillating detector is used in the same way but on the air for the hard x-rays and for alignment purposes. Total electron yield from the sample is measured by channeltron. The spectrometer is fully controlled by special software that gives the high flexibility and reliability in carrying out of the experiments. Fig.2 and fig.3 present the typical XAFS spectra measured with spectrometer.

An experimental study on the refrigerant-side pressure drop of slit fin-tube heat exchanger has been carried out. A comparison was made between the predictions of previously proposed empirical correlations and experimental data for the pressure drop on design conditions of condenser in micro-fin tube for R22 and its alternatives, R407C (R32/125/134a, 23/25/52 wt.％) and R410A (R32/125, 50/50 wt.％). Experiments were carried out under the conditions of inlet refrigerant temperature of 6$0^{\circ}C$ and mass fluxes varying from 150 to 250 kg/$m^2$s for R22, R407C and R410A. The inlet air conditions are dry bulb temperature of 35$^{\circ}C$, relative humidity of 40% and air velocity varying from 0.68 to 1.43 m/s. Experiments show that pressure drop for R410A and R407C were 17.8∼20.2％ and 5∼6.8％ lower than those of R22 respectively for the degree of subcooling of 5$^{\circ}C$. For the mass fluxes of 200∼250 kg/$m^2$s, the deviation between the experimental and predicted values for the pressure drop was less than $\pm$20％ for R22, R407C and R410A.

Diurnal courses of $CO_2$ concentration and air temperature in the rice seedbed tunnel covered with polyethylene film, subjected to three different ventilation methods, were traced. Regaredless of ventilation methods, $CO_2$ concentrations in the tunnel on a clear day were lower than that in ambient air, and vice versa before dawn. $CO_2$ concentration during the day was lowest in the tunnel with non-ventilation (NV), followed by horizontal slit ventilation (HSV) and traditional one(TN), reaching down to the lowest level of 58ppm, 155ppm and 272ppm, respectively. Air temperature in the tunnel reached 46$^{\circ}C$ in NV, 37$^{\circ}C$ in HSV and 32$^{\circ}C$ in TV at the daytime when ambient air temperature was 22$^{\circ}C$. Even at night time of ambient air temperature below 15$^{\circ}C$, HSV was more effective than TV in raising the air temperature in the tunnel. The dry weight of 40-day old seedling weighed heaviest in HSV, followed by TV and NV.

A comprehensive numerical study is carried out to investigate for the understanding of the flow evolution and flame development in a supersonic combustor with normal injection of ncumally injecting hydrogen in airsupersonic flows. The formulation treats the complete conservation equations of mass, momentum, energy, and species concentration for a multi-component chemically reacting system. For the numerical simulation of supersonic combustion, multi-species Navier-Stokes equations and detailed chemistry of H2-Air is considered. It also accommodates a finite-rate chemical kinetics mechanism of hydrogen-air combustion GRI-Mech. 2.11[1], which consists of nine species and twenty-five reaction steps. Turbulence closure is achieved by means of a k-two-equation model (2). The governing equations are spatially discretized using a finite-volume approach, and temporally integrated by means of a second-order accurate implicit scheme (3-5).The supersonic combustor consists of a flat channel of 10 cm height and a fuel-injection slit of 0.1 cm width located at 10 cm downstream of the inlet. A cavity of 5 cm height and 20 cm width is installed at 15 cm downstream of the injection slit. A total of 936160 grids are used for the main-combustor flow passage, and 159161 grids for the cavity. The grids are clustered in the flow direction near the fuel injector and cavity, as well as in the vertical direction near the bottom wall. The no-slip and adiabatic conditions are assumed throughout the entire wall boundary. As a specific example, the inflow Mach number is assumed to be 3, and the temperature and pressure are 600 K and 0.1 MPa, respectively. Gaseous hydrogen at a temperature of 151.5 K is injected normal to the wall from a choked injector.A series of calculations were carried out by varying the fuel injection pressure from 0.5 to 1.5MPa. This amounts to changing the fuel mass flow rate or the overall equivalence ratio for different operating regimes. Figure 1 shows the instantaneous temperature fields in the supersonic combustor at four different conditions. The dark blue region represents the hot burned gases. At the fuel injection pressure of 0.5 MPa, the flame is stably anchored, but the flow field exhibits a high-amplitude oscillation. At the fuel injection pressure of 1.0 MPa, the Mach reflection occurs ahead of the injector. The interaction between the incoming air and the injection flow becomes much more complex, and the fuel/air mixing is strongly enhanced. The Mach reflection oscillates and results in a strong fluctuation in the combustor wall pressure. At the fuel injection pressure of 1.5MPa, the flow inside the combustor becomes nearly choked and the Mach reflection is displaced forward. The leading shock wave moves slowly toward the inlet, and eventually causes the combustor-upstart due to the thermal choking. The cavity appears to play a secondary role in driving the flow unsteadiness, in spite of its influence on the fuel/air mixing and flame evolution. Further investigation is necessary on this issue. The present study features detailed resolution of the flow and flame dynamics in the combustor, which was not typically available in most of the previous works. In particular, the oscillatory flow characteristics are captured at a scale sufficient to identify the underlying physical mechanisms. Much of the flow unsteadiness is not related to the cavity, but rather to the intrinsic unsteadiness in the flowfield, as also shown experimentally by Ben-Yakar et al. [6], The interactions between the unsteady flow and flame evolution may cause a large excursion of flow oscillation. The work appears to be the first of its kind in the numerical study of combustion oscillations in a supersonic combustor, although a similar phenomenon was previously reported experimentally. A more comprehensive discussion will be given in the final paper presented at the colloquium.
