Since most Green House Gases (GHGs) and air pollutants are generated from the same sources, it will be cost-effective to develop a GHGs reduction plan in combination with simultaneous removal of air pollutants. However, effects on air pollutants reduction according to implementing any GHG abatement plans have been rarely studied. Reflecting simultaneous removal of air pollutants along with the GHGs emission reduction, this study investigated relative cost effectiveness among GHGs reduction action plans in Busan Metropolitan City. We employed the Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA), a methodology that evaluates relative efficiency of decision-making units (DMUs) producing multiple outputs with multiple inputs, for the investigation. Assigning each GHGs reduction action plan to a DMU, implementation cost of each GHGs reduction action plan to an input, and reduction potential of GHGs and air pollutants by each GHGs reduction action plan to an output, we calculated efficiency scores for each GHGs reduction action plan. When the simultaneous removal of air pollutants with the GHGs reduction were considered, green house supply-insulation improvement and intelligent transportation system (ITS) projects had high efficiency scores for cost-positive action plans. For cost-negative action plans, green start network formation and running, and daily car use control program had high efficiency scores. When only the GHGs reduction was considered, project priority orders based on efficiency scores were somewhat different from those when both the removal of air pollutants and GHGs reduction were considered at the same time. The expected action plan priority difference is attributed to great difference of air pollutants reduction potential according to types of energy sources to be reduced.
Pulpal temperature is changed in response for various conditions which were mechanical, thermal, chemical and biological stimuli. This study was performed to determine the pulpal temperature changes which were using air turbine with air-water coolant, water coolant, and conventional dental engine with water coolant and no coolant on 28 canine of dogs. In order to record pulpal temperature, pulp chamber was opened on the labiocervical area of canine. Thermocouple was inserted into pulp chamber and was fixed with filling material(dycal). Changes of pulpal temperature were recorded on the physiograph, which had been standardized temperature degree, through thermocouple to thermistor bridge and carrier preamplifier. The amount of experimental temperature change to that of control was interpreted in the pulpal cavity. The obtained results were as followings: 1. The mean normal temperature was 33.07 centigrade. 2. The temperature was decreased than normal pulpal temperature. It was 12.04 centigrade in reduction by air turbine with air-water coolant, 7.17 centigrade in reduction by air turbine with air coolant, 5.54 centigrade in reduction by conventional engine with water coolant, and 1.26 centigrade in reduction by conventional engine with no coolant. 3. The time for maximal temperature change was 53.3 seconds in reduction by air turbine with air-water coolant, 73.4 seconds in reduction by air turbine with air coolant, 50.9 seconds in reduction by conventional engine with water coolant, and 27.1 seconds in reduction by conventional engine with no coolant. 4.. After reduction was ceased, the recovery time to normal pulp temperature was 287.1 seconds in air turbine with air-water coolant, 189.0 seconds in air turbine with air coolant, 86.9 seconds in conventional engine with water coolant, and 52.9 seconds in conventional engine with no coolant respectively.

To investigate the morphology characteristics of air layer in the air cavity, a numerical method with the combination of RANS equations and VOF two-phase-flow model is proposed for a plate with air cavity. Based on the model above, the dynamic and developmental process of air layer in the air cavity is studied. Numerical results indicate that the air layer in the plate's air cavity exhibits the dynamic state of morphology and the wavelength of air layer becomes larger with the increasing speed. The morphology of air layer agrees with the Froude similarity law and the formation of the air layer is not affected by the parameters of the cavity, however, the wave pattern of the air layer is influenced by the parameters of the cavity. The stable air layer under the air cavity is important for the resistance reduction for the air layer drag reduction.

Air lubrication techniques for frictional drag reduction on ships have been proposed by numerous researchers since the 19th century. However, these techniques have not been widely adopted as questions persist about their drag reduction performance beyond the laboratory, as well as energy and economic cost-benefit. This paper draws on data from the literature to consider the suitability of air lubrication for large ocean going and U.S. Great Lakes ships, by establishing the basic energy economic calculations and presenting results for a hypothetical air lubricated ship. All the assumptions made in the course of the analysis are clearly stated so that they can be refined when considering application of air lubrication to a specific ship. The analysis suggests that, if successfully implemented, both air layer and partial cavity drag reduction could lead to net energy savings of 10 to 20%, with corresponding reductions in emissions.
Reduction of intussusception using air or oxygen has wide acceptance as an alternative to conventional hydrostatic reduction. This study was undertaken to evaluate the results and complications of air pressure enema in 948 pediatric intussusception. One hundred and twenty nine cases were operated on at the Department of Surgery, Masan Samsung Hospital from 1985 to 1996 because of air reduction failure. The success rate was 86.4 %. Twenty-one patients(2.2 %) showed perforation during air reduction. Risk prone factors of perforation were; age less than 3 months(42.9 % vs 11.1 %), duration of symptoms greater than 48 hours (66.7 % vs 33.3 %), and presence of pathologic leading point(28.6 % vs 3.7 %). Vomitting and spontaneous rectal bleeding revealed higher prediction to the complication. In nineteen cases, bowel infarction, coagulated necrosis and hemorrhage suggested that the cause of perforation was due to the preexisting strangulation. In conclusion, when doing an air pressure enema reduction, care must be taken if the patient is of a young age or the symptoms are of long duration.
The resistance reduction by an air lubrication effect of a large air cavity covering the hull bottom surface and the similarity relations involved have been investigated with a series of towing tank tests of three geometrically similar models. The test results of geometrically similar models have indicated that a large air cavity was formed beneath the bottom having a backward-facing step by artificially supplying air is effective for resistance reduction. The areas of air cavity and the required flow rates of air are directly related to the effective wetted surface area. The traditional extrapolation methods seem to be applicable to the estimation of the resistance in the tested range if corrections are made to account the changes in the frictional resistance caused by the changes in the effective wetted surface area. To investigate the effectiveness of air lubrication in improving the resistance performance of a practical ship, a small test boat having a backward-facing step under its bottom has been manufactured and speed trials in a river have been performed. Air has been supplied artificially into the downstream region of the bottom step to form a large air cavity covering the bottom surface. The results have confirmed the practical applicability of air lubrication for the resistance reduction of a small high-speed boat.
Recently environmental regulations like the Kyoto Protocol, adopted in 1997, required the 5.2% reduction of the greenhouse gas emission in 1990. And 13th General Assembly in 2007, held in Bali of India, have agreed to duty reduction even in developing countries in 2013. Korean government needs the researches on climate change and the strategic programs for greenhouse gas reduction. In this paper Colorado State University Mesoscale Model(CSU-MM) was applied to simulate the relationship between surface albedo and air temperature. Meteorological model simulation in region of Ansan-City, Shiheung-City showed that mean air temperature became lower with the increase of albedo value. Simulated air temperature became lower $-0.16^{\circ}C$ and $-0.66^{\circ}C$ by 5% and 20% increase of albedo values respectively. And cooling energy saving amount in air conditioning process was calculated according to lowered air temperature. The reduction of air temperature resulted the reduction of air conditioning energy in personal house and commercial buildings. The increase of albedo from 5% to 20% resulted the reduction of air conditioning energy from 44,493 MWh/yr to 183,796 MWh/yr. Additionally the reduction of greenhouse gas emission through the energy saving was calculated after IPCC guideline. In terms of greenhouse gas emission $CO_2$ was reduced form -30,414 ton-$CO_2$/yr to -125,638 ton-$CO_2$/yr according to the reduction of electric energy.

The reduction of $CO_2$ emissions has been a key target in the marine industry since the IMO's MEPC published its findings in 2009. Air lubrication method is one of the mature technologies for commercialization to reduce the frictional resistance and enhance fuel efficiency of ships. Air layer is formed by the coalescence of the injected air bubbles beyond a certain air flow rate. In this study, a model ship (${\lambda}=33.33$) of a 50,000 ton medium range tanker is equipped with an air lubrication system. The experiments were conducted in the 100 m long towing tank facility at the Pusan National University. By selecting optimal air injector configuration and distribution ratio between two injectors, the total resistance of model $R_{TM}$ was able to be reduced down to 18.1% in the model scale. Key issue was found to suppress the sideway leakage of injected air by appropriate injection parameters.
The purpose of this study was to determine the success rate of air reduction as the primary treatment of intussusception and whether the success of air reduction could be predicted by plain x-ray. The authors reviewed the medical records of 54 consecutive patients diagnosed with intussusception from Jan 2005 to Dec 2007 at the Department of Surgery, Masan Samsung Hospital. The natures of symptoms and findings of plain abdominal radiography performed in the emergency department (ED) were reviewed. Air reduction failed more frequently (26.3 %) in patients who visited ED more than 24 hours after symptom onset (p=0.009). The mean duration of symptom for operated patients was longer than air reduction group (p=0.01). Also, 3/4 of patients having localized distension of small bowel in the left upper quadrant abdomen had unsuccessful air reduction (p=0.002). In conclusion, the time interval from symptom onset to arrival at ED and localized distension of small bowel in the left upper quadrant abdomen significantly increased the failure rate of air reduction.
It is known that lubrication effect of an air cavity can reduced a drag of a ship. The present study intends to utilize the phenomena for the drag reduction of a passenger ship now operating in a lake. A scaled model of the model when air cavities are formed under the bottom of the model. Model experiments have been performed to determine adequate air supply rates, proper shapes and locations of air supply nozzles. It is shown that energy saving of mere than 10% can be achieved at the design speed of the ship even after excluding additional power consumed for air supplying. Multiple air supply nozzles, if allocated properly, are more effective than single one in resistance reduction of the ship.
