The air and water flow distribution are experimentally studied for a heat exchanger composed of round headers and 10 flat tubes. The effects of tube protrusion depth as well as mass flux, and quality are investigated, and the results are compared with the previous 30 channel results. The flow at the header inlet is annular. For the downward flow configuration, the water flow distribution is significantly affected by the tube protrusion depth. For flush-mounted geometry, significant portion of the water flows through frontal part of the header. As the protrusion depth increases, more water is forced to the rear part of the header. The effect of mass flux or quality is qualitatively the same as that of the protrusion depth. Increase of the mass flux or quality forces the water to rear part of the header. For the upward flow configuration, different from the downward configuration, significant portion of the water flows through the rear part of the header. The effect of the protrusion depth is the same as that of the downward flow. As the protrusion depth increases, more water is forced to the rear part of the header. However, the effect of mass flux or quality is opposite to the downward flow case. As the mass flux or quality increases, more water flows through the frontal part of the header. Compared with the previous thirty channel configuration, the present ten channel configuration yields better flow distribution. Possible explanation is provided from the flow visualization results.

In the mechanical ventilation system, it is a fundamental condition to distribute the air equally to the each room. In this study, distribution performance of the air distributor which generally connected to a circular duct was investigated by simulation and experiment. In the first CFD analysis, maximum air flow rate deviation was an 63% in the air distributor model. After numbers of model modification and simulation, maximum flow rate deviation was reduced to 19% in the final simulation model. An air distributor which used in the experiment was produced by using data obtained from the final analysis. When experimental result was compared with analysis result, there was a deviation difference as much as 9%.

Present study explains some experimental results on the aerodynamic noise of the cross-flow fan usually installed in the indoor unit of the room air-conditioners and provides a simple reduction method of radiating sound to decrease the total noise level. The spectrums of the noise of the cross-flow fan were analyzed by the spectral decomposition method to characterize the generated sound. The unsteady fluctuating flow field was also measured using the I-type hot-wire probe. Comparing the spectral characteristics of the sound and the flow velocity, a useful noise reduction method was proposed which bounds the region with a fence where the flow fluctuations were noticeably changed in the same fashion as the source spectral distribution functions vary. To validate the proposed method for reducing noise generated by the cross-flow fan, the sound pressure levels of the cross-flow fan system were compared of the experimental rig with and without the bounding fence for various flow rates.
A theoretical model was developed for rotary kiln and computational study was conducted to find the effect of feeding characteristics. One dimensional model with the variations of heating distribution, length of heating zone, excess air ratio and revolution was considered. The comparison of parallel-flow rotary kiln with that of counter-flow was conducted. For parallel-flow type, it is found that the variation of temperature of solid is not great for the zone that is following flame-heating zone. This zone is good to take the special treatment because thermal deviation is small and contacting time is enough for another treatment. Increase of excess air ratio have the effect of decreasing solid temperature. But this effect of decreasing solid temperature goes small for the great excess air ratio. The heating is efficient for the flame which has the maximum heating at the central region of the full length.

The aim of this study is to provide fundamental informations that make it possible to use a cool stream and a hot stream simultaneously. We changed the pressure of compressed air that flows into a tube, the inner diameter of orifice that a cold stream exits, and the mass flow rate ratio. And in each case, we measured the temperature of a cold stream and a hot stream in each exit of a tube. Also we measured the axial and the radial temperature distribution in internal spare of a tube. From the study, fellowing conclusive remarks 7an be made. First, As the number of nozzles increase, separation point move into the hot exit. Second, When we use guide vane type nozzle, the axial temperature distribution constant over the 0.75 of air mass flow rate radio. Third, When we use Spiral type nozzle, axial and radial temperature distribution in the inner space is higher than another nozzle. Fourth, Axial and radial temperature distribution in the inner space vortex-tube is determined by separation point. And separation point is moved by changing of air mass flow rate ratio. At last, A heating apparatus is possible far vortex-tube to use.

The purpose of this study is to observe the visualization of the flow field for air flow distributed in the car from the ventilation fan installed in the ceiling of the passenger elevator car through the numerical analysis using computational fluid dynamics. STAR-CCM+, which is a code used for the numerical analysis, was used to predict the airflow distribution inside the elevator car. The numerical analysis of the distribution of the air current in the elevator was carried out. As a result, the analysis results for each point and the visualization of the air current distribution and the temperature distribution in the elevator car and were obtained. It was found that heat transfer was actively occurring inside the car due to the influence of the flow field discharged from the ventilation vent installed in the ceiling in the elevator car, and especially the convection heat transfer of Model-2 was more active than that of Model-1. As a result, the temperature distribution inside the car was found to be relatively low. In addition, the temperature distribution at a cross-section of 1700mm height in the elevator car shows that Model-2 is the location of the ventilation vent which makes people feel more comfortable.

The method to consider gravity effect on the performance of a condenser is developed, and a simple condenser having 'nU' type two circuits is analyzed. Each circuit has the same length and inlet air-side operational conditions. The only difference between two circuits is the direction of refrigerant flow, which is exactly opposite each other between the upper 'n' type circuit and the lower 'U' type circuit. It is shown that the gravity makes the distribution of refrigerant flow uneven in the two circuits at lower refrigerant flow rates; heat transfer rate also becomes uneven. Moreover, much of the refrigerant exists as liquid state in the circuit having low refrigerant flow rate, which will make the cycle balance unstable in the refrigeration cycle system like a heat pump.

In this paper an experimental study was investigated for two-phase flow distribution in compact heat exchanger header. A test section was consisted of the horizontal bottom dividing header($\phi$: 5 mm, L: 80 mm) and 10 upward circular mini channels ($\phi$: 1.5 mm, L: 850 mm) using an acrylic tube. Three different types of tube intrusion depth were tested for the mass flux and inlet mass quality ranges of 50 - 200 kg/$m^2$s and 0.1 - 0.3, respectively. Air and water were used as the test fluids. The distribution of vapor and liquid is obtained by measurement of the total mass flow rate and the calculation of the quality. Two-phase flow pattern was observed, and pressure drop of each channel was measured. By adjusting the intrusion depth of each channel an uniform liquid flow distribution through the each channel was able to solve the mal-distribution problem.

With the development of a living standard, the importance of indoor air conditioning system in all kinds of buildings and vehicles has increased. A lot of researches on energy losses in a duct and various kinds of flow pattern in branches or junctions have been carried out over many years, because the primary object of a duct system used in HVAC is to provide equal flow rate in the interior of each room by minimizing pressure drop. In this study, to get equal flow distribution in each branch, a blockage is applied to the rectangular duct system. The flow analysis for flow distribution of a rectangular duct with two branches was performed by CFD. By using SIMPLE algorithm and finite volume method, flow analysis is performed in the case of 3-D, incompressible, turbulent flow. Also, the standard $k-{\varepsilon}$ model and wall function method were used for analysis of turbulent fluid flow. The distribution diagrams of static pressure, velocity vector, turbulent energy and kinetic energy in accordance with variation of Reynolds number and blockages location in a rectangular duct show that flow distribution at duct outlets is improved by a blockage. In this rectangular duct system, mean velocity and flow rate distribution in two branch outlets are nearly constant regardless of variation of Reynolds number, and a flow pattern of the internal duct has a same tendency as well.

The air distribution duct with multiple outlets is an essential part of automotive air-conditioning system In a bus. The estimation of airflow rate in an automotive air-conditioning duct is typically very complicate due to large variations in cross-sectional area and abrupt changes in flow direction, as well as unbalanced distribution of the flow. In this paper, the flow characteristic in a duct with multiple outlets is investigated through experiment, CFD simulation and a one-dimensional simulation. Numerical simulations have been performed for two simplified air conditioning ducts with multiple outlets used in a medium bus. The three dimensional Navier-Stokes code was used to evaluate the overall pressure, velocity Held, and distribution rate at each diffuser according to the change of various design parameters such as ratio of cross-sectional area and radius of bifurcated region. In addition, a one-dimensional program based on Bernoulli equation was developed to obtain optimized diffuser area required to equalize discharge flow rate at each outlet. As a result of this study, optimized diffuser area of design variable by one-dimensional program was very reasonable as compared to the trend deduced from CFD Simulation. Therefore, the simple and convenient one-dimensional analysis developed in this study can be applied in practical design procedure for air-conditioning duct.
