  • According to the ICAO's Global Air Navigation Plan for CNS/ATM - Communications, Navigation, and Surveillance - systems, employing digital technologies, including satellite systems together with various levels of automation, are to be applied in support of a seamless global air traffic management system. For the future navigation, the focus of future implementation efforts can be placed entirely on an expected gradual migration toward GNSS-based navigation, Korea has been considered various options for airspace GNSS augmentation system: GBAS, SBAS and GRAS. This paper discusses current status and future trend of GNSS airspace navigation systems, and presents the results of possible augmentation options and scenarios to analyze system availabilities which could lead to the conclusion of the best program for Korea. The results showed that Korea could have sufficient availabilities from en-route to CAT-I approach with ABAS and GBAS. The study was in cooperated with MITRE, an American research company.

The objectives pursued by ANASTASIA, a sixth framework European Commission project, are presented. The methods used in the derivation of the navigation performance requirements are introduced and discussed in the context of precision approaches. High-level impacts on the avionics receiver of integrating additional multi-frequency ranging signals from a modernized GPS and Galileo into the current navigation architecture are investigated. Expected performance achievements are presented.

  • This paper presents the jamming effect on the L5 band of Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) by analyzing real data collected via measurement campaigns in Korea region. In fact, the L5 band is one of the dedicated bands for various satellite navigation systems such as Global Positioning System (GPS), Galileo, BeiDou (BDS), and Quasi Zenith Satellite System (QZSS). And this band is also allocated along with various systems used for aeronautical radio navigation systems (ARNS). Among ARNS, the Distance Measuring Equipment (DME) and the Tactical Air Navigation System (TACAN) are systems that transmit and receive strong power pulse signals, which may cause unintentional jamming in the reception of GNSS signals. In this paper, signals in the main lobe of GPS L5, Galileo E5a, BDS B2a, and QZSS L5 are collected in Korean region to confirm whether the jamming effect exists in the band. And then, the pulse blanking technique, which is a simple signal processing technique capable of responding to pulsed jamming, is applied to analyze the jamming effect of DME/TACAN on the L5 band.

  • VHF Omnidirectional Radio range(VOR) is used as an aircraft navigational aid. The VOR is a short-range air navigation system providing aircraft with its bearing relative to the ground station. The accuracy of a VOR must be checked in accordance with the current ICAO, FAA and domestic regulations. The primary purpose of performing VOR station ground checks is to minimize the need for expensive flight checks by determining the amount and direction of any course bearing inaccuracies being transmitted. In this paper we present current and advanced way of monitoring of VOR system. We verify this way by field test of the monitoring and it is a high performance way to achieve an improvement in accuracy and an effect compared to present monitoring system.

  • Recently personal income level is rising. So, many people use the leisure lightweight aircraft and the population which enjoys a leisure is increasing. But as the leisure lightweight aircraft compares in the civil aircraft and the military aircraft, and it has a low price. So the equipment which it is loaded in the lightweight aircraft is not equipped. In this paper, we develop the air navigation for lightweight aircraft using the smart phone(iPhone, Android phone, Window mobile, BADA phone etc.) and the smart pad(iPad, Galaxy Tab etc.).

  • In this paper, we analyzed the performance of VDL mode 3 system model whose specification is defined by ICAO(International Civil Aviation Organization). For performance evaluation, we obtained BER(Bit Error Rate), transmission delay time, burst retransmission rate and throughput. From the analysis result, we could explicitly define relationships among BER, transmission delay time, throughput and burst restransmission rate. In addition, it became known that V/D retransmission rate and throughput are closely related in down link channel.

  • The study has focused on relationship benefits provided for customers in terms of relationship marketing and empirically analyzed the influence of components of relationship benefits in air service. Those components are, for example, social, psychological, economic and special treatment benefits on long-term orientation of relationship. Also, ultimately, this study aims to suggest marketing strategies and relevant implications for airlines. In conclusion, psychological and special treatment benefits were found to have influence on long-term orientation of relationship.

  • ICAO has recommended the introduction of New CNS/ATM based on GNSS technologies and Data link communication to purpose increasing air traffic demand. The CNS/ATM is composed of communication, Navigation, Surveillance and Air Traffic Management. Cockpit Display Traffic Information(CDTI) that is equipment to share air traffic information to Pilot, Traffic Controller and ground vehicles has been built based on Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast(ADS-B) information in Surveillance field. This paper is research that what is the effect between pilot and controller through CDTI. Based on ATC communication between Pilot and Controller, We construct simulation environment and did a comparative analysis of it. according to result, We can verify that CDTI makes aircraft Call sign, Position, Altitude information read rate, and notice of air traffic information between Pilot and Controller more improve than ATC environment and Existing Radar System.

  • The ICAO (International civil aviation organization)recommended the implementation of the GANP (global air navigation plan) for strategic decision-making and air traffic management evaluation. In this study, we proposed a new method for finding the route distance from KPI (key performance indicator) 05 actual route extension presented for air traffic management evaluation. For this purpose, we collected trajectory data for one month and calculated the en-route distances using the methods presented in ICAO and the methods presented by this author. In the ICAO method, the intersection point must be estimated through the equation of a circle for radius 40 NM and the equation of a straight line for an inner and outer point close to a circle in the track data, and four flight distances are calculated to calculate the en-route distance. In the method presented in this study, two flight distances are calculated without estimating the intersection point to calculate the en-route distance. To determine the error between the two methods, we used the performance evaluation index RMSE (root mean square error) and the determination factor R2 of the regression model.

  • A planing craft is designed specifically to achieve comparatively high speed on the surface of the water. The frictional resistance of planing craft can be reduced further by injecting air to the craft's bottom. In this paper, the resistance characteristics of high speed planing crafts with & without air injection at the bottom were compared by sea model-test method. As a result, we conformed that planing craft with air injection has much greater the effect of resistance reduction.
