Performance Analysis of an Aircraft Gas Turbine Engine using Particle Swarm Optimization

  • A turbo fan engine performance analysis and the optimization using particle swarm optimization(PSO) algorithm have been conducted to investigate the effects of major performance design parameters of an aircraft gas turbine engine. The FJ44-2C turbofan engine, which is widely used in the small business jet, CJ2 has been selected as the basic model. The design parameters consists of the bypass ratio, burner exit temperature, HP compressor ratio, fan inlet mass flow, and nozzle cooling air ratio. The sensitivity analysis of the parameters has been evaluated and the optimization of the parameters has been performed to achieve high net thrust or low specific fuel consumption.

  • Recently, Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor(IPMSM) is widely used in the industry applications such as power train for hybrid vehicles and compressor motors of air-conditioner due to its high power density and wide speed range. In designing motors, pole slot combination should be chosen properly according to the use of the motor and driving method in the initial design stage, accordingly there have been many researches about pole slot combination. As a part of the studies, this paper presents a comparison of characteristics of concentrated winding IPMSM, such as back-emf, Total Harmonic Distortion(THD) and core losses for each pole slot combination. By comparing the characteristics of each model, this paper can be a guide or reference in determining pole slot combination in the initial design stage.

  • This paper presents the application of response surface methodology (RSM) to design optimization for two types of synchronous reluctance motors (SynRMs); one has 12 slots with distributed winding, and the other has 6 slots with concentrated winding, to improve the ratio between torque ripple and average torque. The usefulness of RSM in optimization problem of SynRM is verified as compared with the results of finite element analysis. In the end, the optimized two SynRMs are compared with SynRM currently used in air-conditioning compressor in connection with torque performance and loss.

  • The train control and monitoring system(TCMS) is an on board computer system in railway vehicles performing the control, supervisory and diagnostic functions of the complete train. This system replaces a lot of hardwired relays and minimizes the necessaries vehicle wiring thus increasing the reliability of the train. In this paper, we proposed a software design technique of TCMS using CASE tool (SAO+). The TCMS functions are implemented in software easily programmed, using a functional block, graphic programming language. We applied the compressor air module to a case study.

R744를 2차냉매로 사용하는 R404A용 냉동시스템의 성능 분석 (Performance analysis of R404A refrigeration system using R744 as secondary refrigerant)

  • In this paper, an analysis on performance and exergy of R404A refrigeration system using R744 secondary refrigerant was performed numerically to optimize the design for the operating parameters. The operating parameters considered in this study include subcooling and superheating degree, internal heat exchanger and compression efficiency, evaporation and condensation temperature in the R404A refrigeration cycle and temperature difference of cascade heat exchanger. The main results are summarized as follows : The COP(coefficient of performance) of R404A refrigeration system increases with increasing evaporation temperature. The evaporation capacity of R744 as secondary refrigerant increases with the increase in evaporation pressure of R744 secondary refrigeration. And the enthalpy in the evaporator outlet of R744 increases with the increasing evaporation pressure of R744 secondary refrigeration. Therefore, it is important to analysis for the relationship between COP of R404A refrigeration system and refrigeration capacity of R744. As cascade evaporation temperature increase, the exergy loss of condenser and compressor using R404A is the largest among all components. Therefore, the exergy loss in the condenser and compressor using R404A must be decreased to enhance the COP of R404A refrigeration system with R744 secondary refrigerant.

  • The cooling load in winter is significant in buildings and hotels because of the usage of office equipments and the high efficiency of wall insulation. Hence, the development of a multi-heat pump that can cover heating and cooling simultaneously for each indoor unit is required. In this study, the operating characteristics and performance of a simultaneous heating and cooling heat pump in the heating-main operating mode were investigated experimentally. The system adopted a variable speed compressor with four indoor units and one outdoor unit with R-410A. In the heating-main mode, the cooling capacity was lower than the design cooling capacity due to the reduction of the flow rate in the indoor unit for the cooling, with the increase of the heating capacity. To solve these problems, the performance characteristics of the simultaneous heating and cooling heat pump in the heating-main mode were investigated by varying the flow rate to the indoor unit for the cooling and the compressor rotating speed. In addition, the adequate control methods were suggested to improve the system efficiency.

해양플랜트 소형 유틸리티장비의 FEED 검증 프로세스에 대한 연구 (A Study of FEED Verification process of Small Utility Equipment in Offshore plant)

  • 본 논문은 시스템엔지니어링기법을 이용하여 해양플랜트 산업의 소형 유틸리티 장비의 입찰단계에서 사용가능한 FEED 검증 수행모델에 대한 연구이다. 현재 국내 해양플랜트 기자재산업계는 해양플랜트에 진출하면서 프로젝트 수행에 따른 재정적 위험에 직면한 상태이며, 그 주요한 원인으로 기자재업체의 발주처(COMPANY 또는 EPC: Engineering, Procurement and Construction) 로부터 제공받은 FEED 결과물에 대한 검증능력부족으로 조사되었다. 이에 요구사항 분석, 기능, 성능분석 및 물리적아키텍처 구축프로세스를 순차적으로 적용하는 시스템 엔지니어링 기법을 간략화 한 FEED 설계 검증방법을 제안하고 이를 소형 유틸리티 장비(Air Compressor)를 대상으로 기존의 경험에 의존한 검증방법과 개발한 FEED 검증 모델을 적용한 결과를 비교함으로써 개발된 모델의 사용적정성을 검증하였다.

  • 부분 부하운전시 냉동공조장치의 능력을 조절하기 위해서 핫가스 바이패스 기술을 적용한다. 이 개념은 압축기에서 나온 고온의 냉매증기를 증발기 입구측으로 보내는 것이다. 본 논문에서 질량과 에너지 보존법칙을 근거로 CO2에 대한 핫가스 바이패스 개념을 적용하여 분석한다. 본 논문에서 고려된 운전 변수는 냉동장치의 압축효율, 과열도, 가스냉각기 냉매 출구온도, 증발온도 등이다. 주요결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 과열도, 가스냉각기 출구온도, 증발온도는 냉동장치의 COP와 냉동능력에 영향을 미치는 것을 알 수 있다. 따라서 이러한 결과의 면밀한 분석을 통해 R744용 냉동장치를 설계할 필요가 있다.

차량용 마그네틱 클러치의 마찰 특성 (Friction Characteristics of Magnetic Clutch Used in Automobiles)

  • A magnetic clutch consists of pulley and disk. It delivers and isolates the power needed for the operation of the compressor used in automotive air conditioning system. To improve the performance, efficiency and durability of automotive air conditioning system, appropriate design of pulley, disk and system working parameters(the magnitude of magnetic force, and so on) is necessary. For that goal, it is required to understand the friction characteristics of magnetic clutch for the initial operating time. In this study, friction tests were carried out in order to investigate the effect of sliding velocity on the friction characteristics of magnetic clutch using pin-on-disk type friction and wear tester. For experiments, pulley and disk used in real automotive air conditioning system were considered. Friction experiments were conducted under various sliding velocities, and coefficients of kinetic friction were obtained. Under the experimental conditions considered in this study, the coefficients of kinetic friction increased with the increase of test number(sliding distance) and decreased with the increase of sliding velocity.
