  • Responding to rapid changes of global supply chain and fast increasing air cargo volume and demand for e-commerce market, this paper researched the development plans for regional airport specially focused on air cargo logostics through policy research. According to this research, political implications and development plans for Cheong Ju airport (CJJ) to become a part of global supply chain, a regional air cargo hub. Firstly, it is necessary to increase the length of the existing runway from 2,744m to 3,200m or to develop 3rd runway only for a civil aircraft use. Secondly, it is inevitable to develop new air cargo terminal to handle and export such high value-added products as semi-conductor or rechargeable battery through airport. In addition, facing re-shoring trends among global supply chain, CJJ can increase its air cargo volume and also provide feeder service to Incheon airport, inducing global distribution center near airport site.

  • Economic indicators are a factor that affects air cargo volume. This study analyzes the different factors affecting air cargo volume by each Chinese cities according to the main characteristics. The purpose of this study is to help companies related to China, airlines, and other stakeholders predict and prepare for the fluctuations in air cargo volume and make optimal decisions. To this end, 20 economic data were used, and the entire data was reduced to 5 dimensions through factor analysis to build a dataset necessary and evaluated the influencing factors by multi regression. The result shows that Macro-Economic Indicators, Production/Service indicators are significant for every cities and Chinese manufacture/Customer indicators, Korean manufacture/Oil Price indicators, Trade/Current indicators are significant for each other city. All adjusted R2 values are high enough to explain our model and the result showed excellent performance in terms of analyzing the different factors which affects air cargo volume. If companies that are currently doing business with China can identify factors affecting China's cargo volume, they can be flexible in response to changes in plans such as plans to enter China, production plans and inventory management, and marketing strategies, which can be of great help in terms of corporate operations.

  • In this study, the main factors affecting the number of passengers and cargo volume transported by air between Korea, China and Japan over the past 20 years are to be identified. For the analysis, data from three countries' GDP and per capita as well as exchange rates and international oil prices were used, and OLS multiple regression analysis and fixed effect analysis were performed. As a result of the analysis, both the number of passengers and cargo volume transported by air showed a negative (-) direction for GDP, which represents the country's economic power, and a positive (+) direction, for per capita GDP, which represents income level. And the increase in the exchange rate between China and Japan acted in a positive (+) direction on the increase in the number of passengers, and the effect of oil prices was found to be limited.

  • A scheduled airlift is the most critical part of the air transportation operations in ROK Air Force. The military cargo-plane routing problem is a PDPLS (pickup and delivery problem in which load splits and node revisits are allowed). The cargo which is transported by a military cargo-plane is measured in pallet. The efficiency of pallet needs to be considered with respect to its volume and weight. There are some guidelines about orders of priorities and regulations in the military air transportation. However, there are no methodologies which can raise the efficiency of flight scheduling using Operations Research (OR) theories. This research proposes the effective computing methodology and the related heuristic algorithms that can maximize the effectiveness of the path routing model.

  • This paper studied what kind of effects were made through Open Sky agreement on Korea-China air transport market. To analyze the effects on air transport markets brought by liberalization, this paper studied transport volume, number of airlines, passenger and cargo and routes from 2000 to 2012 Korea-China aviation statistics. Liberalization of shandong and Hainan Provinces agreed in 2006 caused significant differences in frequencies, transport volume, and the number of routes for both passenger and cargo services between 2007 and 2008, as well as statistically significant effects. The analysis on the effect of Korea-China Open skies Agreement between 2000 and 2012 was no difference because the global financial crisis in September 2008.

  • For forecasting air cargo demand from Incheon National Airport to all of airports in the United States (US), this study employed the Seasonal Autoregressive Integrated Moving Average (SARIMA) method and the time-series data collected from the first quarter of 2003 to the second quarter of 2016. By comparing the SARIMA method against the ARIMA method, it was found that the SARIMA method performs well, relatively with time series data highlighting seasonal periodic characteristics. While existing previous research was generally focused on the air passenger and the air cargo as a whole rather than specific air routes, this study emphasized on a specific air cargo demand to the US route. The meaningful findings would support the future research.

  • Air transport is at the core of global economic growth. There is a close relationship between the flow of regional elements and the growth of the regional economy. It is easy to misestimate the impact of airports on the regional economy without considering spatial spillover effects. This study attempted to establish an asymmetric economic geographical weight matrix by applying the Spatial Durbin Model with cargo volume and passenger numbers as indicators. The influence of spillover effects on the regional economy, including direct spillover effects and indirect spillover effects are studied. The results revealed that passenger numbers and cargo volume have significant positive spillover effects on the regional economy. The driving effect of the airport on the regional economy was considered from a wider space scope. This study contributes to the scientific evaluation of the aviation economy.

  • In order to deal with the increase of container cargo traffic volume more effectively, the ministry of maritime affairs & fisheries has a long-term plan to develop Gaduk Island. According to the plan, the New Port will handle 4,600,00TEUs annually. The completion of the project will enable the port of Busan to perform as a hub port in the Asia Pacific era of the year 2000 with sufficient port facilities, and this will lead to a new era of oceanic Korea. With the advent of the Pacific Rim Era of the year 2000, Busan metropolis has set a strategic development plan to establish the area as the center of logistics in the noreast Asian region as well as to become the stronghold of economic activity in Korea's southeast region. To this end, industries that will open the doors to a marine era and a new industrial complex focused on logistics are planned in the West Busan area where Gimhae International Airport and the Busan New Port meet. This paper aims to find out the functional relation and complement between the Busan New Port Distri-Park handing container cargo traffic volume and the West Busan Logistics Pa가 handling an air cargo and railroad goods. Especially, paper aims to suggest the West Busan Logistics Park as the efficient management of the container cargo traffic volume due to the Development Plan of the Busan New Port.

  • The sea/air intermodal transport is a time-saving and cost-saving transport for cargo shipments. In reaction to a recent growth of high value-added products in China, the volume of sea/air intermodal transport in Korean airport has been increasing continuously. This paper treats the situation, the system, and the possibility of sea/air intermodal transport, which are emerging as an alternative to solve the logistics problem related to the increase of international air cargo demand in China. Also, several strategies are considered to develope Korea into intermodal transport hub including the value added logistics activity which will secure the demand of sea/air intermodal transport.

  • The capacity of Jeju International Airport has reached its limit due to a surge in air traffic demand such as passengers and cargo and the continuous expansion of Low Cost Carriers (LCC). Despite COVID-19 that has began in November 2019, Jeju International Airport still has continuous demand in terms of passenger and cargo transportation. As a result, it is undeniable that the delay rate also unexpectedly increased as the air traffic volume at Jeju International Airport continued to increase. In this study, the correlation between Turnaround Time and delay rates of national airlines is analyzed based on past flight data at Jeju International Airport, and the cumulative delay time trend for sampled airlines is compared with Turnaround Time. Through this study, it is expected to contribute to securing aircraft operation efficiency and on-time by analyzing delays related to Turnaround Time at Jeju International Airport.
