Managing erosion control dams requires the annual average sediment yield to determine their storage capacity and time to full sediment-fill and dredging. The GeoWEPP (Geo-spatial interface for Water Erosion Prediction Project) model can predict the annual average sediment yield from various land uses and vegetation covers at a watershed scale. This study assessed the GeoWEPP to determine the annual average sediment yield for managing erosion control dams by applying it to five erosion control dams and comparing the results with field observations using ground-based LiDAR (light detection and ranging). The modeling results showed some differences with the observed sediment yields. Therefore, GeoWEPP is not recommended to determine the annual average sediment yield for erosion control dams. Moreover, when using the GeoWEPP, the following is recommended :1) use the US WEPP climate files with similar latitude, elevation and precipitation modified with monthly average climate data in Korea and 2) use soil files based on forest soil maps in Korea. These methods resulted in GeoWEPP predictions and field observations of 0 and 63.3 Mg·yr-1 for the Gangneung, 142.3 and 331.2 Mg·yr-1 for the Bonghwa landslide, 102.0 and 107.8 Mg·yr-1 for the Bonghwa control, 294.7 and 115.0 Mg·yr-1 for the Chilgok forest fire, and 0 and 15.0 Mg·yr-1 for the Chilgok control watersheds. Application of the GeoWEPP in Korea requires 1) building a climate database fit for the WEPP using the meteorological data from Korea and 2) performing further studies on soil and streamside erosion to determine accurate parameter values for Korea.
SAR image is not dependent on the weather condition and Sun's electromagnetic energy. But geometric distortions exist in almost all radar image, it need to be correction. The Radarsat-1 SAR images are used to monitoring of moisture acquired in May 1/1998 and May 25/1998. Radarsat-1 C band data is sensitive on moisture condition. Study area is located in Non-san site. It is made up almost agricultural area and a little of forest area. In May, Rice-planting is started in the midland of Korea. So moisture condition is undergoing many changes. Forest area need to be terrain effect removal for accurately results because it is included in layover, shadow, and so on. Results of land-cover moisture condition map are useful tool for fields of agriculture, forestry industry, and disaster.

Monitoring contaminants in waste landfills on a seabed is important because the leachate affects the marine ecosystem and facility stability. The objective of this study is to optimize a time-domain reflectometry (TDR) probe using different coating materials and several electrodes to estimate contaminants in saline soil. Copper concentrations ranging from 0 mg/L to 10 mg/L were mixed in 3% salinity water to simulate contaminants in the ocean environment. Epoxy, top-coat, and varnish were used as coating materials, and two to seven electrodes were prepared to vary the number and arrangement of the electrodes. Test results showed that the varnish stably captured the increase in copper concentration, while the other coating materials became insensitive or caused leakage current. In addition, a TDR probe with more electrodes exhibited stable and distinct electromagnetic signals. Thus, the TDR probe with seven electrodes coated with varnish was effectively used to estimate contaminants in saline soil.
Fruit cracking and vine leaf spot of grapes tend to occur when the plants were directly exposed to rain under outdoor culture. Rain shelter facility can be an alternative method to prevent the cracking and disease of grape, but it also has some limitations in practical usages. We designed rain shelter facility which can completely shut out the rain and ventilate naturally, and it was upgraded to meet the standards of disaster prevention against snow and wind load. The newly developed rain shelter has two-story roof structure, and the $2^{nd}$ floor roof was equipped over $1^{st}$ floor roof at a distance of 40cm. For natural ventilation and water proof, the upper roof protruded about 50cm from the ridge of a $1^{st}$ floor roof. The various tests were carried to examine such as grape quality, brown spot and fruit cracking of Campbell Early under the conventional and the newly developed rain shelter facility which was built about $100{\ss}{\check{S}}$. In comparison of temperature between the conventional and the newly developed rain shelter facility when outside temperature was more than $34^{\circ}C$, the inside temperature was recorded as $40.7^{\circ}C$ and $37.4^{\circ}C$, respectively. There was no significant difference between the two facilities when outside was below $32^{\circ}C$ The quality such as soluble solids and marketable fruit was increased, and fruit cracking of grapes and vine leaf spot also drastically diminished in the newly developed rain shelter.

In this study, a field test of uplift load was carried out using 15 greenhouse foundations fabricated in full scale on a sand soil to examine the uplift capacity of plastic film greenhouse and glasshouse foundations for disasterproof standard. As a result, the maximum uplift capacity of the target greenhouse foundations was shown to be in the range from 11.6kN to 82.4kN according to the differences between the forms and sizes of the foundation. As a result of the examination of the applicability using the field uplift load test result of the theoretical equation proposed for maximum uplift capacity calculation of greenhouse foundations, we found that in general, the conventional theoretical equation for the calculation provided numerical values close to the field test results. However, the soil considered in this study was a sand; thus, in the future, verifying the conventional theoretical equation for the uplift capacity calculation of a cohesive soil would be necessary.

To investigate the changes of the resistance to prochloraz of Fusarium species causing bakanae disease, Fusarium isolates were collected from various regions in Korea, and pathogenicity tests were performed using rice seeds. Minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and effective concentration of 50% ($EC_{50}$) values of isolates were determined using the agar dilution method. High frequency distribution of MIC values of prochloraz against isolates collected in 2006~2007 and 2013~2014 years were $3.125{\sim}6.25{\mu}g/mL$ and $6.25{\sim}12.5{\mu}g/mL$, respectively. The mean $EC_{50}$ value of isolates increased from $0.3142{\mu}g/mL$ in 2006~2007 to $0.8124{\mu}g/mL$ in 2013~2014. Based on the $EC_{50}$ value of isolates collected in 2006~2007, the resistant baseline of prochloraz was determined as $0.6{\mu}g/mL$. Compared with the ratio of resistant isolates in 2006~2007, the ratio of resistant isolates in 2013~2014 increased from 6.5% to 41.6%.
The importance of environment-friendly agriculture is being magnified as a new growth engine industry in pursuit of low carbon, green growth policies. In order to provide technical supports for pushing ahead with the environment-friendly agriculture policies, we estimated the effects of customized fertilization on growth and yield of rice and fertilizer reduction compared to conventional fertilization and single-element fertilization. In rice plant growth and rice yield, no statistically significant difference between the three fertilization treatments was observed. In contrast, customized fertilization showed high disaster resistance reducing the damage caused by rice lodging during a typhoon. The average N application in farms showing high rice lodging amounted to $135kg\;N\;ha^{-1}$ while $135-138kg\;N\;ha^{-1}$ was known as the critical range of rice lodging in Korea. The fertilizer reduction rate of customized fertilization compared to conventional fertilization of investigated farms was on average 22.5%. We estimated the short-term effects of customized fertilization in the first year after application. In future, there is need for continuous examination of rice growth and soil environment change due to successive application of customized fertilizer.
The 3S Basin is described as an important contributor in terms of many aspects in the Mekong River Basin in Southeast Asia. However, the 3S Basin has been suffering adverse consequences of changing discharge and sediment, which are derived from farming, deforestation, hydropower dam construction, climate change, and soil erosion. Consequently, a large population and ecology system that live along the 3S Basin are seriously affected. Accordingly, the calculating and simulating discharge and sediment become ever more urgent. There are many methods to simulate discharge and sediment. However, most of them are designed only during a single rainfall event and they require many kinds of data. Therefore, this study applied a Catchment-scale Soil Erosion model (C-SEM) to simulate discharge and sediment in the 3S Basin. The simulated results were judged with others references's data and the observed discharge of Strung Treng station, which is located in the mainstream and near the outlet of the 3S Basin. The results revealed that the 3S Basin distributes 31% of the Mekong River Basin's total discharge. In addition, the simulated sediment results at the 3S Basin's outlet also substantiated the importance of the 3S Basin to the Mekong River Basin. Furthermore, the results are also useful for the sustainable management practices in the 3S Basin, where the sediment data is unavailable.
