Effect of isochronic aging on transformation behavior of Ti-50.85at%Ni alloy were investigated by differential scanning calorimeter (DSC). The martensitic transformation temperature increases with increasing annealing temperature until reaching a maximum, and then decreases with further increasing annealing temperature. This can be rationalized by interaction between the distribution of $Ti_3Ni_4$ precipitates and Ni content in the matrix. The R-phase transformation temperature increases with increasing annealing temperature until reaching a maximum, and then decreases with a further increase of annealing temperature. This is attributed to the change of Ni content in the matrix caused by precipitation of $Ti_3Ni_4$. The occurrence of the multiple-stage martensitic and R-phase transformation is attributed to precipitation-induced inhomogeneity of the matrix, both in terms of composition and of internal stress fields.

Cu-Ti alloys with titanium in the range of 0.5-6.0 wt% were developed to evaluate the effect of the titanium content and heat treatment on microstructure, hardness, and electrical conductivity. The hardness of the Ti-added copper alloys generally increased with the increase in titanium content and hardening was effective up to the 2.5 wt%-Ti addition. Microstructural examination showed that the second phase of $Cu_4Ti$ started to precipitate out from the 3.0 wt% Ti-addition, and the precipitate size and volume fraction increased with further Ti addition. Aging of the present Cu-Ti alloys at $450^{\circ}C$ for 1 h increased the hardness; however, the further aging up to 10 h did not much change the hardness. In the present study, it was inferred that in optimal Ti addition and aging condition Cu-Ti alloy could have the hardness and electrical conductivity values which are comparable to those of commercial Cu-Be alloy.
The purpose of this study was to investigate comparatively the microstructural characteristics and hardness of discontinuous precipitates (DPs) in Mg-9%Al alloy, which were formed by continuous cooling (CC) from 678 K to RT and isothermal aging (IA) at 413 K, respectively. In as-cast state, the Mg-9%Al alloy consisted of partially divorced eutectic β(Mg17Al12) particles with a small amount of DPs showing (α+β) lamellar morphology adjacent to the β particles. The DPs formed by CC had interlamellar spacings in a broad range of 0.85~2.12 ㎛ (1.51 ㎛ in average) owing to the various formation temperatures in response to continuous cooling process. Meanwhile, the DPs formed by IA had relatively narrower interlamellar spacings of 0.14~0.29 ㎛ (0.21 ㎛ in average), which is associated with the low and constant formation temperature. Thinner and higher volume fraction of β phase layers were noticeable in the DPs formed by IA. Higher hardness values were obtained in the DPs formed by IA than the DPs formed by CC, which may well be ascribed to the finer lamellar structure and higher β phase content of the DPs formed by IA.
The effects of Ag addition on the microstructures and mechanical properties of 7050 Al alloy were investigated. Various homogenizing and aging treatments were carried out to analyze the controversial effects of Ag in 7050 Al alloy. Transmission electron microscopy(TEM) was used for microstructural analysis. The hardening precipitates(${\eta}^{\prime}$) become finer with Ag addition. It suggests that Ag promotes easier nucleation of ${\eta}{\prime}$. The strength of overaged Ag bearing alloys are higher than that of Ag free alloy. Hardening precipitates(${\eta}^{\prime}$) in Ag bearing alloys are smaller than that of Ag free alloys, because the growth rate of ${\eta}^{\prime}$ during overaging stage is lower in Ag bearing alloys.
Hot gas path components, which are made of nickel based superalloys, are subject to periodic replacement due to degradation of thermomechanical properties that might bring catastrophic failure during normal operation of gas turbine units. In order to rejuvenate the metallurgical condition of the serviced components, heat treating techniques such as solution annealing and aging heat treatments have widely been employed. However, the effectiveness of those typical heat treatments is not apparent enough in terms of quantitative grounds. On the other hand the demand of the rejuvenation heat treatment and hot isostatic pressing (HIP) have constantly been raised by the end users. Therefore it is necessary to verify how the typical heat treating techniques affect to the aged and degraded material. As the result of experimental work in this study, GTD-111 and GTD-222 Ni-based superalloys were collected and analyzed quantitatively through microscopic observation, microhardness evaluation and creep test.
The effect of precipitation and dissolution of Si on the thermal diffusivity in the Al-Si alloy system is reported in this study and solution heat treatment followed by aging treatment is carried out to determine the effects of heat treatment on the thermal characteristics. The solution treatment is performed at 535 ℃ for 4 and 10 h and then the specimens are cooled by rapid quenching. The samples are aged at 300 ℃ for 4 h to precipitate Si solute. The addition of 9 wt% silicon contents makes the thermal diffusivity decrease from 78 to 74 mm/s2 in the cases of solid solution treated and quenched samples. After quenching and aging, the Si solute precipitates on the Al matrix and increases the thermal diffusivity compared with that after the quenched state. In particular, the increase of the thermal diffusivity is equal to 10 mm/s2 without relation to the Si contents in the Al-Si alloy, which seems to corresponded to solute amount of Si 1 wt% in the Al matrix.
Properties of Ni-base superalloys of Nimonic 80A alloy system were investigated by the observation of microstructures, precipitates ana hardness as a function of the chemical compositions ana the paths of heat treatment. The higher hardness values showed, the higher Ti/Al ratio among high compositions of Cr and Co element. The lower (Ti+Al) and Fe contents decreased in the same Ti/Al ratio, the higher hardness values showed. This results are considered that coherent deformation was increased with increasing Ti/Al ratio. Hardness showed higher value when Cr contents was $18 wt\%$ less than $21wt\%Cr$. In $3.15 wt\%$Co alloy, $\gamma'$ phase was very fine as around 50nm and, its volume fraction and hardness showed the highest value by 2step-aging treatment.

A study of treatment effects on laser surface melted Ni-base alloy 600, especially on precipitation behavior ad chemical composition changes on the grain boundary were conducted with microscopic equipments. Long-term aging treatment at 40$0^{\circ}C$ caused no considerable effects on the grain boundary properties. Cr-rich M$_2$$_3$C$_{6}$ and Cr$_{7}$C$_3$ carbides were precipitated and the resultant Cr depletion below 12 wt pct on some high angle grain boundaries was occurred by heat treatment at $600^{\circ}C$ for 24 hours. These results can imply that the resistance of intergranular stress corrosion cracking of heat treated alloy 600 might not be changed considerably in comparion with the as-LSM one.e.e.

The effects of Mg addition on heat treatment and mechanical properties of A356 alloy were investigated. With increased amounts of Mg addition to A356 alloy, the grain size decreased and eutectic Si was refined. And, this process can improve the mechanical properties. Solid solution heat treatment causes the spheroidizing of eutectic Si. In this study, although eutectic Si was refined with Mg addition, solid solution time increased from 2 hours to 6 hours with Mg addition, and aging time also increased, from 4 hours to 8 hours. After heat treatment, Mg2Si remained in a formation of Chinese script. And, Chinese script Mg2Si formed with Mg addition caused a reduction of the elongation of the alloys according to the stress concentration.
Nickel titanium shape memory alloys (NiTi) have been investigated for applications in the biomedical industry. However, little is known about the influences of surface modifications on the propertise of these alloys. The effect of electropolishing and heat treatments was found to exhibit significant surface roughness. Change of phase was B2, r-phase and B19' by heat treatments. In this study, effect of the electropolishing conditions on surface roughness is investigated in Ni-Ti alloys (Nitinol). Variation in phases with heat treatment temperature is investigated for a Ni-Ti alloy by X-ray diffraction and DSC. Characteristic of the microstructure have been observed by SEM. Surface roughness have been measured by AFM. The results clearly show that significant different in surface property to heat treated at $500^{\circ}C$ (R-phase). $TiO_2$ phases preciritated all of the specimens. It is not good effect of surface roughness because made to surface relief. The surface roughness appears to be important in the property of Ni-Ti alloys for biomedical applications.
