  • The purpose of this study was to examine the influence of the SOC strategies of college students taking courses related to lifelong educator on their attitude toward the elderly and successful aging in an effort to provide information on how to teach students to take a favorable attitude toward the elderly and acquire knowledge on the right aging. The major findings of the study were as follows: The male students made more use of an arbitrary selection strategy than the female students, and a loss-based selection strategy was more prevailing among the female students. There were no differences in attitude toward the elderly and awareness of successful aging according to gender and the presence or absence of religion. Aging attitude was under the statistically significant positive influence of a compensation strategy, and a loss-based selection strategy had a statistically significant positive impact on awareness of successful aging. Given the findings of the study, a wide variety of programs and contents that are related to lifelong educator and can be of use for college students who make a preparation for successful aging should be developed and provided in consideration of the variables that affect attitude toward the elderly and successful aging.

  • Due to increasing awareness about the risk which will be caused by fast aging of population, the importance of aging friendly environment including housing has been paid much attention both individually and socially. In this regard, recently, in Korea, diverse elderly living facilities have increased in its number. Because of little experience, however, there have not been enough holistic understanding about aging friendly housing. Accordingly, most previous literature which introduced elderly housing to Korean society have translated differently, thereby caused more confusion. To facilitate communication about aging friendly housing, clear and consistent definition of its type and comprehensive range needs to be delineated. The purpose of this study is to classify various elderly housing alternatives in architecturally understandable way. This study was proceeded by content analysis of existing literature on elderly housing environment. A comprehensive review on the concept and existing classification of elderly housing was done prior to main analysis of translated Korean words. After classifying the Korean words of definition, systematic classification which focused on two important criteria of determining physical characteristics, such as space sharing degree and intentional plannedness was delineated and suggested. This research shows the first step toward the theoretical foundation for elderly housing classification.

  • Despite widespread awareness of the importance of a middle-aging and older consumer market, it is surprising that very little research has been conducted on their in-home shopping behavior. Therefore, this study focused on middle-aging and older female television home shoppers and examined the effects of persuasive mentions of the show host and parasocial interaction on social involvement, perceived loneliness, mood, perceived risk and unplanned buying tendency. A total of 109 middleaged and older female television shoppers responded. Results of path analysis revealed that persuasive mentions did not influence parasocial interaction. However, as middle-aging and older consumers more para-socially interacted with the host, they were likely to use television shopping for alleviating loneliness. Practical and theoretical implications were discussed.

To alleviate various problems (health, environment, social relationships, psychology and emotion, and financial problems) of the elderly caused by aging society, there has been increasing attention to social capital. This study investigated types of ways that the elderly at individual level are aware of social capital and the characteristic. In addition, factors that influence the types were studied. Data from 1060 elderly with the age of 65 and older were collected in Korea. Excluding missing data on variables used in the study, data of 960 elderly were used for analyses. K-mean cluster analysis was conducted to investigate types of elderly awareness on social capital at individual level. Multinominal logistic regression was used to find out factors of the types. K-mean cluster analysis resulted in three types of awareness on social capital among the elderly: (1) potential of social capital; (2) severance of social capital; and (3) wealth of social capital. Multinominal logistic regression resulted in that compared to potential of social capital type, when the elderly were younger, inclination of politics was more progressive, they did not have religion, they did not reside in rural, and they did not live in multiplex housing, the elderly were more likely to be in severance of social capital type. Also, when the elderly were women, had higher education and standard of living, were Christian, and did not reside in rural regions. they tended to be in wealth of social capital type. Based on the study results about awareness on social capital among the elderly and factors related to the awareness types, practical and political suggestions that promote social capital to solve problems of the elderly were provided.

  • Introduction: With recent higher awareness of the necessity of improving healthcare workers' wellbeing, we aimed to overview systematic reviews dealing with interventions on well-being, occupational health, and aging of healthcare workers. Methods: From three databases (PubMed, Embase, and Web of Science), a scoping review of systematic reviews was carried out to determine current knowledge on interventions focused on the well-being or aging of healthcare workers. Only systematic reviews were considered, with appropriate extraction and quality evaluation. Results: Of the total of 445 references identified, 10 systematic reviews were included, mostly published since 2019. Nurses were the most frequent targets of interventions, and mental health was the main outcome described. The overall level of quality was also heterogenous, with high to low-quality reviews. Conclusions: Workers' mental health well-being was the major outcome targeted by intervention, with varying level of evidence. Further studies are needed with integrative approaches on global health and life course perspectives, with a focus on the plurality of settings, worker types, and women.

  • This study investigates consumer awareness and concerns regarding apparel sizing in the realm of online shopping. A survey was conducted with 450 women aged 18-59 who had engaged in online clothing purchases within the past year. It was observed that consumers shop for clothes online an average of 1.6 times per month, with those under 50 shopping more frequently. The importance of size is higher when buying pants than jackets, especially in online shopping compared to offline purchases. Key references guiding online shopping decisions encompassed product sizing codes, customer reviews, and garment dimensions, which were notably favored by consumers with significant concerns. Respondents opted for Korean-style sizing codes for jackets but chose inch-sizing codes for pants. While awareness of height and weight remains high, knowledge of specific body measurements crucial for clothing size design is lacking, suggesting inadequate communication of size information. Respondents prioritized specific areas for jacket and pants fit, yet the lack of comprehensive self-measurements beyond height and weight might present challenges in determining fit based solely on product dimensions. To address this issue, online retailers should display essential garment dimensions and visually suggest clothing sizes according to various body types. These findings provide valuable insights for online retailers to effectively present size information and lay a foundational framework for consumer size education.
